What a gift from the glorious free market. We clearly need less regulations so we can be gifted like this more.

Wow, we should tell BP. Because I keep hearing these ads over the radio saying how much they care about the wellbeing of the Gulf. I'ms ure they'll do everything they can to fix this.

I'm gonna go swing out on a thin branch here and suggest that all this new genetic diversity is a result of the clean-up more than the spill....

My favorite free market derp was blaming government regulators for not explicitly dictating that the Titanic should have carried enough life boats for all of the passengers.

Considering, from what I read at the time, they had no idea what those clean-up chemicals would do when used in such heavy volume, you might be right.

A friend of mine is a marine biologist down here and they were very concerned about the dispersants from the get go, but the locals really had no say in it. It will take years to see what the effects are. That said, the LSU biologist in the article was retained by plaintiffs lawyers in litigation against BP a long time ago, so take it with a grain of salt. The oyster beds being harvested right now are clean. And the oysters this year have been delicious.

This is just the invisible hand of the freemarket. If people wanted shrimp with eyes they'd have them. Simple supply and demand.

I remember UFOs shining their bright headlights into the abyss.

Here's the really funny part. I live on the Gulf Coast in a fishing town and guess what. No one has even seen or heard of these deformities. All our native shrimp are just fine. I don't suppose AlJazeera would have a hidden agenda...you know..like lying to quell the push to start drilling in the Gulf again? Aljazeera...ROFL.

I hear that same phrase at least once a day now, sometimes two or three times on the weekend.

AJ English is one of the best news sources on the planet. Most of the people in charge came from BBC, and spin is a dirty word with that lot...

2012-04-18 10:57:36 PM
FTA: "...looking at somewhere between 20 and 30,000 fish...."

That's a large variation.

2012-04-18 10:58:49 PM
If they're catching that many eyeless ones then clearly eyes weren't necessary for shrimp success. We've saved the shrimp from wasting valuable energy on growing eyes, thus freeing more energy for reproduction. I predict an extra good catch of shrimp next year!

Is it the arabic sounding name scaring you? You obviously have no idea of Al Jazeera's worldwide popularity and respect as a valid news org. Unlike Fox News, Al Jazeera does not parrot what the politicans in the respective countries tells it to.

Someone explained this a few days ago: Supply actually drives demand, rather than the reverse; therefore people must now want eyeless petromutant shrimp.

/I'll bet the someone works in marketing.

perhaps the counter has visual or cognitive issues as well.

Listen up people - those fisherman need the money. What's to stop them from beheading the shrimp so no one is the wiser, right?

I have not heard any of this from my fishermen buddies here in the New Orleans area. In addition, my father in law is a fresh-caught seafood distributer on the Alabama coast, He has not seen anything like what the article describes. Something smells fishey.

Even more so, because each shrimp won't know/care if the other shrimp is ugly.

BP has a lot of, shall we say, purchased political influence in the U.S. It wouldn't surprise me if the most reliable news source for this type of thing would be foreign news agencies.
