Ive heard of 12, the only one of them that I would even remotely consider listening to is Springsteen. The rest of them qualify for a station change if it comes on the radio.

/Iron Maiden is the best High Energy band that I have ever seen live
//Rush is also good energy live
///Yes, I was a teen in the 80s. What of it?

2012-04-18 07:38:41 PM
Geez, Subby I know 21 of those, and I'm a fossil. The last album I bought was released in 2002 by a guy who was big in the 1970s.

2012-04-18 07:40:38 PM
I pride myself on not knowing music and even I knew like 20 of them.

you're a dummy subby.

2012-04-18 07:42:12 PM

FishyFred: Playing right now? Is this supposed to be "best current live acts"? Because Muse isn't on that list. Girl Talk isn't on that list. Dave Matthews Band isn't on that list.

At least the slideshow loaded quickly.

Seriously, two of the best touring acts right now.

2012-04-18 07:42:40 PM
I had heard of:

27. Gotye
26. Beyoncé
25. Florence + the Machine
24. Lady Gaga
23. Bruce Springsteen
22. Coldplay
18. Kelly Clarkson
17. Fiona Apple
15. The Civil Wars
14. Jay-Z
13. Kanye West
12. Foo Fighters
11. Bruno Mars
10. Rihanna
9. Mumford and Sons
8. Nicki Minaj
7. The Black Keys
6. Jack White
5. Katy Perry
4. Carrie Underwood
3. Drake
2. Taylor Swift
1. Adele

I have music by TWO acts on the list. Three, if you count Jack White as part of The Raconteurs.

2012-04-18 07:43:11 PM
Dillinger Escape Plan just lit that shiatty list on fire and pissed on is ashes

2012-04-18 07:43:50 PM

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: /don't know the other two, though I feel I've at least heard of Calvin Harris.

You've heard of Calvin Harris because he was the featured artist on Rihanna's #1 hit "We Found Love" in January. Other than that, I have no idea what he's done.

Ahhhh, thanks! That's it.

2012-04-18 07:46:19 PM
I'm 45 and I recognize all but three. I w9as hoping to find the Wrinkle Neck Mules on the list so I could say that the writer doesn't know anything. (They suck but insisting that they are good is a disease that is spreading.) As it is the list is populated by too many mechanized and digitized non-talents. But I still love Fiona Apple.

2012-04-18 07:50:06 PM

T-Boy: I'm 45 and I recognize all but three.

Got me beat. 35 and I missed five, 2 were hip hop and I haven't been giving a lot of due to that lately.

I have high hopes for Alabama Shakes after hearing their album. Been listening to it for a good spell now. Pretty awesome.

CalamitousCrasher

Gunny Highway: CalamitousCrasher: Gunny Highway: Gogol Bordello, Gene Ween, NoMeansNo, Clutch, Mastodon, Baroness, Queens of the Stone Age......

Dude, NoMeansNo are still alive?? They must be like 80 now or something.

/and likely still KILLING it each and every show.

They are by far my favorite band and I have never had a chance to see them play. They do well in Europe and mostly tour there.

I too never have had a chance to see them, but grew up in their neck of the woods (WA states, think they are BC boys) so probably missed plenty of opportunities before I ever heard of them. They are on the bucket list though! And, after Fugazi, The Wipers and the Minutemen, NoMeansNo is pretty high up on my list too.

No Means No are indeed alive and touring. Restores my faith in humanity that some of our best and most obscure musical exports getting some love here. Seen nomeansno and the hanson bros many times here in the Koootenays (middle of nowhere BC). Great shows always. If you're interested May 5 in Vancouver, not sure of venue

fusillade762: She's adorable.

I bet she smells like kittens.

2012-04-18 07:55:13 PM
This list is proof that EW has lousy taste in music, or just considers "greatest" to mean "most profitable because fans want to see their boobs."

Because there is no way in hell I would ever consider Katy Perry to be a "great" musician. She's not even a bad musician. She's just boobs and a karaoke machine.

2012-04-18 07:55:46 PM

vudukungfu: fusillade762: She's adorable.

I bet she smells like kittens.

Dolphins, was with her last night.

2012-04-18 07:57:57 PM
23 here. Only 3 or 4 deserved to be there.

Black Keys
Mumford & Sons
Bruce Springsteen
Florence + The Machine
Jack White
Foo Fighters

/ok 6.

FeedTheCollapse: turbidum: Beach House are indie darlings in the genre of "surf rock" (I've only heard of them because they placed high on Pitchfork's albums of the year last year). I think they're boring and overrated.

I've never heard Beach House referred to as surf rock... Dream Pop is probably the closest approximation.

After some googling, I retract my statements about Beach House. Well, the descriptor, not my opinion. I have no idea where I got that idea (still trying to figure it out, actually). Thanks for the clarification.

Lets see:

30) Heard them and listen to them. Pretty damn good too if you want to relax.
29) Nope
28) Have heard of him, haven't heard anything by him.
27) Heard for the First time on SNL this weekend. Pretty dam good. I want to hear more. Not what I though he was going to be.
26) Do not want to listen to nor do I care.
25) Florance is pretty bland in my opinion
24) Gaga better take shock rock to the next level in order to get my impression
23) I'm from Jersey what do you think that answer is?
22) Yellow and A Rush of blood are their only good albums
21) Who?
20) Fun. is pretty damn good.
19) Who?
18) The only successful American Idol
17) Glad to have you back Miss Apple
16) ASAP is pretty damn good. Go watch Purple Swag to see a white girl pull off a gold grill
15) While I want to like them, part of me can't
14) Hova better step up his game.
13) Kanye is cray.
12) Dave should have stuck to drumming
11) Ugh
10) Ugh... attention whore
9) So good.
8) Ugh... a bigger attention whore
7) So good.
6) The white Stripes should get back together
5) So hot, yet she can't sing
4) I don't care
3) Drizzy was good when he was still in the wheel chair.
2) I'd hit it while she was singing.
1) OK I guess.

2012-04-18 08:00:09 PM
Kanye is mediocre at best and I will not apologize for saying it

2012-04-18 08:07:29 PM
Include Drake, Coldplay and Kelly Clarkson.

Omit Radiohead, Flaming Lips, TV on the Radio and Muse.

Prepare to be mocked by Fark.

Southern Culture on the Skids?

2012-04-18 08:07:54 PM

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: Randomly: Number 17 deserves a punch in the mouth and a beer from me.

He knows why. Asshole.

Wait, Fiona Apple had sex reassignment surgery?

Watching the "Criminal" video is gonna be so awkward now...

Well, she sucked when I saw her live years ago so she deserves a punch in the mouth too.

But i meant #19. We are eskimo brothers.

Greenly, the day I want Entertainment World to pick my music for me, I will have a farkin' tag on my toe!

2012-04-18 08:09:07 PM
14. Don't own any of their music. Might get "21" if it goes on sale at Amazon MP3 again.

2012-04-18 08:10:24 PM
INDIE IS NOT A GODDAMN STYLE

Klippoklondike: Kanye is mediocre at best and I will not apologize for saying it

I think you should apologize. I don't even think he's up to mediocre.

Lack of Radiohead = Fail

I don't care how popular they are. Or not.

Been waiting to see that band for a decade-and-a-half.

Saw them twice last month and they exceeded even MY overblown expectations.

that's okay, I'm sure you thought of "Surf Rock" due to the band's name.

2012-04-18 08:25:09 PM

delathi: StoPPeRmobile: Solid State Vittles: 23. Only seen a couple of them live, though.

subby needs to put down the Rush and Yes albums. It's a big world out there, scary as it may be.

I can't think of a single rock band that hasn't been influenced by them.

Led Zepplin?
The Who?
The Crickets?
Rolling Stones?

there's 4

Dick!

Treygreen13: I do take issue with the idea that the members of Fun were in groups that were "non-starters".

Nate Ruess was in The Format for 7 years and they had 2 good albums. Dog Problems is one of my favorite albums.

I am 42 years old and saw the Format in concert twice...

2012-04-18 09:17:45 PM
Sorry...I don't see Pearl Jam on that list.

2012-04-18 09:26:51 PM

olomana: 23. Subby was doin' the troll.

This. what a lameass list...

That was the most laughably bad list of 30 anything, ever posted anywhere, by anyone, in the history of ever.

2012-04-18 09:33:04 PM
They misspelled Opeth 30 times.

2012-04-18 09:37:43 PM

This list fails without *any* metal. Subby, you are not alone. Go see some farking Iron Maiden.

2012-04-18 09:45:44 PM

jim32rr: Dolphins, was with her last night.

Bit "fishey"?

say it ain't so.
I'd seriously wear a maid's uniform and cook for her.

Onion bagel, cream cheese.

/List fails without Emilie Autumn, especially regarding live shows

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired: They misspelled Opeth 30 times.

Pwned by the meta-Oprah filter.
Oprah owns the internet, secretly.

StoPPeRmobile: In a couple thousand years only metal will be around.

C'mon, mmmmannnnnnnnnnn. You know your CSN.
Rust never sleeps.
Wait.
That wasn't CSN.
That was CSN&Y.
Hey mannnnnnn. is that Freedom Rock?
