gimmegimme: EWreckedSean: PreMortem: Thrag: EWreckedSean: You tell me, is running a charity a job? Or does a volunteer job not count as an actual job?

I'll let you answer this one

EWreckedSean: The TANF is talking about working at a job to provide income, not about working hard at something.

Self trolled. Wow

It might seem that way if you stupidly confuse what a job is and what TANF is looking for to meet it's requirements.

Yes, and TANF should not consider being a stay-at-home mom a job because it's not. We got it. Raising children is hard work, but it's not a job. You've come through loud and clear. Ann Romney has never had a job. We're aware!

According to Mitt she also has never had any dignity either.

Jackson Herring: Also if this even makes it out of committee, it will not get a single Republican vote.

It would get very few den votes as well. It is a retarded bill. Yes, let's pay women money to just pop out kids. That's working great in Britain.

EWreckedSean: No, I was quoting myself, since you seemed to miss it. Twice apparently. But hey why address a fact when you can accuse me of having multiple accounts right!

You didn't answer my previous question. The way I interpret what you've been saying in this thread is that a "job" is only that which gets welfare, volunteer work doesn't get welfare, so it's not a "job", therefore Ann Romney has never had a "job". Is this correct?

gilgigamesh: EWreckedSean: A deduction and tax break is different from a pay out. One you give less money, the other you are given money.

That's funny. I could swear republicans make exactly the opposite argument about oil company subsidies. I wonder why.

No, we actually make the same point about oil "subsidies". A tax break isn't a subsidy, it's a tax break. Democrats are the one's who suggest otherwise. The "oil" subsidies are all nothing but tax breaks most companies get. They get zero money from the government.

odinsposse: Guidette Frankentits: I'm surprised the Dems didn't add an amnesty for Illegals portion to this bill.

Or this. I guess the dems didn't want the Rethugs hammering them on just this instead of addressing the original issue.

The Homer Tax: Being a stay at home mom is not, was not, and will not ever be a "real job" so it's not applicable.

The GOP camp called that position a 'War on Moms' just a few days ago. I suppose they can add this to their overall war on women.

While attributing your weaknesses to your opponent can be successful, doing it so poorly is sure to end badly.

stpauler: Amusing and +1 for the democrats...but there's still that other part of me that thinks that we need some eugenics going on for those on welfare.

Yeah, it's only drug addled losers on Welfare, right? No situations where one kid has Down's Syndrome, and as soon as kid #2 rolls around(No health issues, BTW), Dad leaves, and Mom has nothing, no child support, no way to raise a new infant and a Down's Syndrome child. Nothing. Must be her fault, and eugenics would just tidy all of that up,.

Serious Black: skullkrusher: theorellior: skullkrusher: that headline. It make-a no sense

C'mon, man, I know you like stirring the crock, but that's pretty weak.

it's nonsense. Yeah, being a stay at home mom is hard work. Yet, I don't see how this would translate into fulfilling the "you gotta be working or looking for work" requirement of receiving welfare benefits. The point of that is not to be doing hard work - you could be breaking rocks in your backyard all day as a way to stay busy - but rather to reduce the length of time you'll require assistance.

If that's the point of requiring people to work to get welfare, then TANF is failing miserably.

I'm not against helping red states. but there is a problem with examples like Texas. They drastically cut their federal emergency funding and then complain to the federal government for funding to make up for the funding they cut when a disaster strikes. They know we (liberals) want to help people so they abuse it to lower taxes and not have any services then turn to us for help when they get into a jam. while at the same time mocking us for having high taxes (which get used to help save their asses)

It's not who was or wasn't picking up the bill, but the fact that they have been proclaiming it to be "work" now for the last week or so. If it's work, then they must be covered under Welfare.

It doesn't have to. The Republicans hold a majority in the house, they'll vote it down. In the Senate, the bill would be fillibustered. It's bullsh*t kabuki theater but it shows just how good the Democrats have gotten at all of sudden making Republicans pay a steep, steep price for trying to play on their turf: women's issues, choice, etc.

Raising her children wasn't a job certainly. I don't know if she ever worked before getting married offhand, do you? A side from that, would you consider the charities she ran a job, since she didn't get paid?

As a proud Republican, I don't think that people accomplish anything by working in the community to organize resources and raise money to help those who refuse to improve their own lives. I'm a big believer in personal responsibility.

qualifies under the welfare to work program would have been a better phrase there, but yes work that provides an income. If that's the only thing that is a "job" which is my impression of what you believe from this thread, then Ann Romney has never had a "job"

Chelle82: i
Sure, but the working mother/father has to do all that work on top of the time and stress associated with their outside job. Not saying you disagree with that, but I don't find much merit in the argument some make that stay-at-home moms have a "harder" job than working moms. It's not like the working mom (if she's a decent parent) doesn't also have to clean the house, cook dinner, grocery shop, help with homework, give baths, read stories, get the kids to various practices and activities, etc.

/One kid under two, one on the way. I now work 30 hours per week, and think it's a nice balance. But I also feel lucky that we can afford this scenario.

Not saying working parents have it easier. My sis is fortunate that her husband makes enough that she can be a stay at home mom. Working parents/ parent can have it much harder. Child care is expensive and many places have waiting periods to get your child in. Not to mention the challenge of trying to get a work schedule that allows one to be involved in their children's lives. One to many trips to the doctor and to the school can even cost a working parent their job causing all kinds of crap to fly.

Lady: "Ann Romney hasn't worked a day in her life."
GOP: "Y U HATE MOTHERS DUMBOCRAPS!?"
Obama: "Yeah, that's out of line. No reason to disparage Ann. Raising children is hard work."
GOP: "I'm going to ignore that and pretend that Obama said these words himself! And that he speaks not only for every Democrat in the country, but also for every progressive and liberal as well!"
Progressives, Liberals and Democrats: "uh..."
one week later
PLD: "Wait a second. So you've been telling us for decades about Welfare Moms and how these people need to get a job... and now you've been telling us for a week that raising kids is just like working. Can we somehow... I donno... highlight this crap?"

Now this.

I mean, it's not accomplishing anything worthwhile besides throwing pies in the faces of some of the clowns tooling around in congress today.
