That's because the Yankee uniform hasn't changed in 100 years. Unlike other teams that have 12 different versions of their uniform, the Yankees have two. Home and Away. Everything else is a waste of money.

And if there's one thing the Yankees don't ever EVER do, it's waste money.

And how many hits has the Night Alternate Away Only Sundays jerseys gotten for a team? At least they waste money to make the team better, not better dressed.

They need that money to pay the players. It's HARD budgeting the highest salaries in any professional sport in the entire world. You have to use ruthless budgeting to properly overpay people to play a children's game.

I am sick of this argument. Until a salary cap is implemented by MLB, all teams can spend whatever they want on whomever they want. At least they put their money back into the team, unlike some.

I would love a salary cap for baseball. I'm a Red Sox fan, and still think it would be a good thing for the sport as a whole. However, I think a salary floor of some sort would be even more useful. Force team owners to invest in players and make an honest effort to win.

If only the team would switch to 100% cotton uniforms, players would be 5 degrees cooler than the opposing team. The players will be more focused since they won't have to worry of excessive heat build-up in their gear and they will also be much more comfortable since cotton is softer, fluffier, and breaths better! They'll have a true competitive advantage.

Probably not. They make a ton of money not only with the team directly but with YES network revenue.

What is with the Yankees? They look like they're having trouble running, they can't move!

It's their uniforms, they're too tight, they've shrunk! They're running like penguins! Forget this game!

In the old "baseball needs a salary cap" threads, you could usually count on Red Sox fans to pinpoint the ideal salary cap at about $1 above what the Red Sox spend.

srhp29: I wonder, as a percentage to revenue, do they really do that more than other teams? Serious question.

Depends on the accounting.

When Forbes or whathaveyou generally publishes their lists of team revenues, it's counting share of gate, share of merch, share of national broadcasts, local broadcast deals and direct ad sells. By this metric, Yankees are mid-high on the list in terms of revenue and thus yes, would be the highest percentage of revenue on salary by far.

What that -doesn't- take into account are their ownership stakes, specifically YES and Legends Hospitality (who runs the concessions at Yankee Stadium, Cowboys Stadium, a handful of MLS venues, minor league parks and has the contract for the 49ers new stadium). That's where the real dough is coming from.

2012-04-18 04:29:37 PM
You guys know everyone shares apparel revenue, right? Unless it's sold at the stadium or a team-owned store where they are keeping the retail profit the licensing pie is split 30 ways.

Well, sometimes they're cool because they're different. Angels had alternates that were vests w/ undershirt style. It's a style I like that's not used often(Rockies do it/have done it.. can't think of others). Doesn't make you win games, but perhaps it can influence style going forward.

While a salary floor sounds good in theory, I think it would just result in very bad contracts given out to players who don't deserve them to reach the floor.

And Im kind of glad they changed it a bit since they just seemed to be copying the bulldogs uniforms for a long time.

I don't think my Cardinals have ever done throwbacks. Granted, that's only because we just switched to the slightly angrier cardinal logo a few years ago. And the team has sucked for its entire existence until the last 5 years.
