cameroncrazy1984: You realize this happened in a whole other country, right? Where they have different eating habits and such? Are you saying that just because dogs aren't farm-raised here that they aren't anywhere?

I don't know anything about Indonesian dog farms, but in China the treatment of dogs for food is pretty bad. Changes are being made though.

And I think we can all asume that a six year old cannot be held accountable for his actions.

how do you know that he stopped eating dog meat?

ever wonder why he picked out such a big breed, a breed known to be more tender than most?

many people, once they start, can't stop.

same thing with his smoking habit.

I don't care if people eat dog in the US but I would think "don't befriend your food" is universal.

coeyagi: Lists of reasons why this is completely different and therefore subby is retarded:

1) A child did the action in this story, not an adult.
2) The child did not harm a live dog
3) The MSNBC host in question is a Conservative, not a Liberal, which is what you're insinuating with your thinly-veiled "double standard" headline.

1 + 2 + 3 = Subby's retarded

This is what I kind of find shockingly incongruous about the whole comparison. Romney was 36 when he drove with his dog locked in a crate on top of his car. Obama was younger than 10 years old. Even if the two situations had anything to do with each other, Obama was a child. Mitt Romney was well past the age where such decisions can be passed off as anything but wrong.

Raised in a dank, damp, filthy pen with sometimes up to hundreds of other puppies. Given food laced with filler, hormones, and antibiotics to try to curb the rampant disease that spread through their pens like wildfire. Confused. Scared. Unable to sleep because of the barks of the others, the barks that went on without end. One day a human - joy! Surely this person will help. Sunshine lights up the pen as a young mulatto walks up and casts his hungry eye on the helpless pups. "This one" the words left his lips in almost a hiss. He lusted for blood. The puppy was taken from the pen by the mulatto's companion which was relief for a moment. Now a dark room. Blood dripping from the sole table in the center of the dark room, running down the floors into a clogged drain. The companion lifted the large cleaver on the table and proceeded to do his grim work. After the head was gone and the pup stopped twitching the fur was removed. The remaining meat cooked for 2-3 hours. The butcher's voice bellowed out of the darkness.

"Dinner is served... Mister President"

The most telling thing about the people defending Clan Romney's dog torturing fetish is their declarations that they would never do that to their own dog.

- "It's not a big deal, dogs love that stuff"

-- "So you'll strap your dog to the roof and take a 6 hour drive on the highway with it?"

- "OMG no that's crazy!"

Jules: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfarker. Pigs sleep and root in shiat. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eat nothin' that ain't got sense enough to disregard its own feces.
Vincent: How about a dog? Dogs eats its own feces.
Jules: I don't eat dog either.
Vincent: Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?
Jules: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
Vincent: Ah, so by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?

Carth: Isn't cannibalism legal in most countries? That is what the definitive resource of wikipedia says anyways.

If that's true, then the larger point that there are cultures outside of the US. and that they have practices that some Americans might find abhorrent, is reinforced.

And yes, if there are cultures that practice cannibalism, I find that to be distasteful. If someone were in India and ate human flesh as part of a Hindu ritual, would I decry them for it? Probably not.

Dog is delicious. Well, except for dog vertebra soup, which must be an acquired taste because it tasted to me like the concentrated essence of what a wet dog smells like. But other than the vertebra soup, it's quite tasty. It's not like the dogs that get barbecued are your dear pet Fido, they're the nasty stray dogs that in the US would have just met their demise in an animal control or PETA kill shelter. At least when you're eating them, the dogs don't go to waste.
