Hey America, I guess people can go bankrupt from illness, but at least you get these heartwarming stories out of it. So I guess you have that going for you.

/seriously, get real health care

This is what health care in the US has come to, your kids begging in the street. This deserves the sad tag.

Can I borrow $10000?

Thanks! Don't have 10 grand but I can put you in contact with some Nigerians who sent a fax to me a few weeks ago...

Hopefully he paid taxes on that income. $10,000 in net sales means he is self-employed. He also should of had all the necessary with-holdings taken out. It should be interesting to see him file taxes next year.

But he'll get to deduct one half of his self-employment tax, so he's got that going for him.

Best Health Care In The World, Fark Yeah!!!!!!

See, the Repubs were right--if you can't pay your healthcare bills, just put your kids to work and all will be well, as soon as we repeal those pesky child labor laws.

I'll have to prepare my nephews to go into the mines if Auntie Trivial gets sick. Their tiny fingers can reach the coal that the grown ups' can't reach.

I don't *want* to be a dick here... but, if I suddenly get sick and have a lot of medical bills, can I also be exempt from income tax so I can pay my bills?

Ya, really, if you weren't out begging for money to help pay your family's medical bills then you aren't a real American. Every six year old should be so lucky to have that experience.

How to explain medical bills to a Canadian...they're kinda like moose stampedes. They're a fact of life. Although you do your best to prepare for them, it's possible a herd so large will stampede that no one can prepare for it. The financial losses can be astronomical.

We did have medical bills in Canada when I was a kid, but it was for dentistry and glasses, IIRC.

Which was really infuriating, because it sucks balls having a bad prescription in school.

Oh yeah, and having my life saved at 9 from a weird disease for no cost was nice.

algrant33: FTA:Randy Cox was reportedly diagnosed with seminoma earlier this year. That's typically a type of testicular cancer, but in Cox's case it's non-testicular and tumors appeared in his chest and elsewhere in his body, colleagues say.

There's NO WAY this is a real story.

My wife is being treated at MD Anderson and on her first day of test a talked with the wife of a guy who had the exact same thing happen. Had testicular cancer that had attached to his liver. I am curious if this could be the same person.

I ran up a 7k ER bill in 4 hours for a kidney stone. They don't warn you of the cost of healthcare in the ER. I am going to try calling the hospital and getting them to downsize that bill. 7k is outrageous.

This is what Republicans believe should happen. God forbid that they - we - all have to pitch a few dollars into the pot annually for universal health care so that people who suffer the rotten luck of a traffic accident or cancer can get competent treatment. (After all, those people might be of a different color or something.) Sorry, guys, but the frontier closed 100 years ago. We live in a society now. Let's play nice.

Kudos to the person who gave the kid $5,000. I'm sure the donor felt good and was happy to help, but ya know, it shouldn't have to be that way. What about the sick and injured who don't have guardian angels?

They can report it, but because it was spent for medical procedures they can write it off.

But the money is being spent on his dad's medical expenses, not the kid's, so the kid doesn't actually have any medical expenses and thus doesn't get to write them off on his taxes.
