I'm sure if it does happen, Apple evangelists will change their mind about tablets less than 10" being "too small to be useful" to being "game changing", "revolutionary", etc.

emocomputerjock: I've heard this rumor for over a year now, and every time it surfaces someone says "it makes no sense for them to do this and cannibalize their sales from their other tablets" and it dies for another 3 weeks.

"If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will."

/Apple has a history of this - see iPod Nano

I have a regular iPad, but I also already own one of the mini-iPads. It's called an "iPhone."

gaspode: Cue iPhags telling us how 7 inch is the perfect format for a tablet in spite of it being a stunningly stupid and pointless size when everyone else released product in that format..

Yes, 85 posts in and no one said about that anything yet. I'm sure they'll get right on that so you look like less of a tool.

Vaneshi: Mikey1969: Vaneshi: No. It's as equally annoying as the previous way of doing it.

If it's "annoying", then either you or Apple is doing it wrong. Works like a dream on Android, and even better on ICS...

It's annoying on a HTC Desire, HTC G1 and a HTC Sensation as it is my iPad 2. Your argument is invalid.

Hmmmm, "invalid"? I still stand by my original assertion. I have a Droid Incredible, I have run Froyo. Gingerbread, and and now Ice Cream sandwich on it. I have had both stock setups, as well as custom ROMs. I also have a Novo7 tablet running ICS, and my wife has an OG Droid, as well as a lower end tablet that runs Android. Never. A. Single. Problem. With Pulldown.

Maybe instead of "annoying", you should list it as "user error"? Kind of a touchscreen version of PEBKAC, if you will?

I've had the good fortune to have just about all the current devices at one time or another. Right now I have the Kindle Fire, and the 'New' iPad. The fire is a great size for reading e-books, and portability, but using it for web browsing can be challenging at times. The larger iPad is nice for web browsing or watching movies on Netflix. I did have a Nook tablet, but I did not keep it for too long. Although the screen was a bit nicer then the Kindle, the B&N market is severely limited. You can root the Nook, but I just was not in the mood to fark with it when I could have the Kindle, and side load the Nook reader app without rooting. Also the Amazon marketplace has a nice selection of apps.
Apple has to be feeling the pressure from Kindle Fire sales.

I don't necessarily think that there's no place for a 7"ish tablet, but what happens to the App Store then? We add another category? If you scale up iPhone apps, they just look/work like crap. If you scale down iPad apps, good luck trying to accurately touch any controls. If we add another category, that's more work for app developers. Doesn't seem to be worth it. I could be wrong though.

True. Though I have to admit, as much as I like my iPad, my Kindle Fire was much easier to hold and it fit into my purse.

Seriously though, I'm not sold on the Note's form factor.
