I really wonder what the results would have been if they had used "green" instead of environmental.

Green's got better branding. When you think of green, you think of recycled packaging and being the trendy mom in the subdivision. Environmental makes you think of some hippie protesting about the noble North American Mud Virus.

And yet I'm staring a hot hot hot drought filled summer right in the face.

I wonder how Texans, Georgians and Floridians are feeling right now.

Water is fast becoming something we can not afford to ignore- especially for those of us out West.

Water is certainly important, but here in Texas, we know that Jesus' directive on lowering taxes for the rich is priority #1.

All I need to know about greens and environmentalism I learned from that right-wing corporatist George Carlin...

Americans are also worried less about Nazis, and this is a repeat from every year since 1945.

You can thank Democrats for that one, too.

Do they think that it is possible that we dont WORRY about the air and the water that it is cleaner than it has ever been?
Do they think that on top of that we worried about bush destroying the country and the crashed economy??

:D

I would imagine the average person's concern with environmental issues is inversely proportional to their concern about being able to pay their mortgage and provide for their family.

After reading that brief article in Scientific American about how all kinds of nasty microbes and shiat will spring back to life as the glaciers melt, I'm more worried.

All the anti-depressants we've polluted the water with are lowering our anxiety about all the stuff we've polluted the water with.

Environmentalistic concerns are a luxury. maintaining a lifestyle has always come first, and "environmentalism" is seen as a frivolous expense when times get hard. Also, the busshiat behind most of the "environmentally friendly" marketing had really soured people.

Gee, let's see...
We hear about one study after another conflicting the one right before it.
We hear about how there is climate change on Mars. (Guess we're using too much hairspray there, too.)
We hear in the news how the wind farm in some random state came to a screeching halt when... gasp... the wind stopped.
We are constantly bombarded by media reports of Ashton breaking up with Demi and dating Mila.

I can play that game, too

Democrats were the southerners who passed Jim Crow laws. Democrats were the people who stifled the movement for civil rights. Democrats were also the people who lynched blacks for a black teenage to whistle at a white woman.

If you are gonna pull that shiat then you need to acknowledge what I posted, too

On any abnormally cold day in my state:

On any abnormally warm day:

"IT'S THE MAYANS!"

Not jokingly, either, and I don't live in a state that is generally warm, except in summer.

Jimmy Carter vetoed the Central Arizona Project. If that had stayed vetoed, much of the development in the Southwest that occurred in the 80's and 90's either would never occurred or failed miserably.

Instead, we get to drink birth control medicine pissed out in Las Vegas and sent via canal to Arizona.

I got a call from people claiming to be from the Gallup poll last week, asking about my views on the economy, personal debt, and health.

We are feeling really hot right now. Painfully hot.

It's the American way.

meanwhile Gallup could recreate that poll next week calling different phone numbers and reach an entirely different conclusion.

the earth is long pockmarked with areas decimated by progress and industry. as long as greed is the motivating factor mankind will continue to rape and ruin the very planet we rely on to sustain life.

Humans have worried less and less about the weather since the advent of roofs, dams, and dikes. A few thousand years, easily. Maybe subby meant 2000 BC.

I never cease to be amazed at how the politicians out here fall all over themselves about starting new housing developments, etc that will bring more people to the area. WE DON"T HAVE MUCH WATER!!!
Building lots of new homes is a bad idea..those homes will require water and power (which also requires water to generate steam for the turbines). Yes, this is a nice area, but it is a desert. Stop encouraging development before we end up like the desert dwellers in less fortunate countries.

Any viruses or microbes that have been trapped for 10k years since the last ice age are ones that mankind was already exposed to, and survived. No big deal.

John Wesley Powell explored the Grand Canyon and Colorado River in 1869. He made it very clear that the American Southwest could never support any serious density of population. One of the ways we've been able to develop is by stealing river water from Mexico.

As I've pointed out in these threads, there's a big difference between "caring" about the environment and "actually caring for" the environment. The environuts in the '70s were great at one of these and incredibly bad at the other, I think you can guess from context which.

They're a bit bitter now because the current generation doesn't attend rallies, do writing campaigns, and protect species with no real environmental importance. The fact that the current generation is orders of magnitude better than the hippies at things that actually help the environment like recycling, power management, infrastructure, and so on.

Basically, they're really upset that things are looking up and they can't be legitimately morally superior anymore.

I try, but can one person's half a pound of recycling and living in a non-suburban area really do that much to curb massive waste?

My children's children are going to have to fend for themselves.

So how do you personally recycle without a recycle bin or use energy efficient equipment when it doesn't exist?

Or are you insinuating that people today are better at caring for the environment in ways that aren't handed to them with ease and convenience?

Maybe you have those dirty hippies of the 70s to thank for the way things are today?

I don't think people should stop caring about the environment because they also care about the economy. I think people have stopped caring because they're tired of being told to care.

The religious overtones arent helping either.

Good to see that water quality concerns score high in terms of concern and that the AGW fabrication ranks dead last.
