Oh, this Senate produced the least amount of work since 1992!

WHERE IS MY FAINTING COUCH

2012-04-17 12:27:42 PM
Two points:

First, who is complaining about this? Conservatives? The story is certainly made to sound like a criticism, and yet the people criticizing are the ones saying that the government does too much.

Second, when every legislative initiative proposed by the majority is immediately filibustered, or otherwise blocked, by the minority, it IS extremely difficult to get things done. I'd say the record has less to do with initiative on the Dems part and more to do with the obstructionist Repubs.

I wonder how much the average time in session is skewed by the Republican's pro-forma sessions in December and January.

2012-04-17 01:05:26 PM
Well when the Republicans say they are going to block everything there isn't much point.

2012-04-17 01:06:06 PM
A nearly trillion dollar Stimulus, Health Care Reform, incentives for green energy, the repeal of DADT, a commitment to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans...

Yeah real farking lazy, subby.

2012-04-17 01:06:12 PM
Wouldn't this be good news for a republican?

Step 1: Filibuster to stop votes
Step 2: Complain about lack of votes
Step 3: the rich profit!!!

I think the formula got skewed.

It takes two houses to pass legislation. You can't just blame the Senate.

I'm sorry, but when you're too afraid to grow a pair against the immature Senate Republicans and/or you stab the President in the back at the first time of asking, you're not getting any sympathy out of me.

This is the GOP equivalent of playing 'why are you hitting yourself?' with your little brother.

FTFY. What constitutes good or bad is a separate debate, but the point you're trying to push is more than a little stupid.

2012-04-17 01:14:54 PM
Yes.
Surely the exponential growth of filibusters "proves" that Senate Democrats are lazy.
See, the GOP are being forced to filibuster each other because of all the nothingness the lazy Democrats try to propose.

Fast hands on the image macro.

This argument is not much better than punching someone with their own hand while asking "Why are you hitting yourself?" (Is this the third link this morning on immature Republican strategy?)

2012-04-17 01:16:53 PM
I demand more government!
Why aren't more taxes being created?
Why aren't more guns being grabbed?
Why aren't more people being forced into grandma killing for socialism?

Why bother spending more time when everything you propose is filibustered?

How many times a day do they want to hear "no?"

Well, the actual stimulus was like ~$550 billion, with ~$275 billion in tax cuts.

This is great today people are both complaining:

A) The senate is voting on a bill that they know would not pass.

and

B) That the senate doesn't spend MORE time trying to pass bills that won't pass!

2012-04-17 01:22:02 PM

Car_Ramrod: Well, the actual stimulus was like ~$550 billion, with ~$275 billion in tax cuts.

Tax cuts are "spending" when Democrats do it. Not just when Republicans do it.

2012-04-17 01:22:06 PM
The same people that have stated outright that their main objective is to undermine the POTUS and stop congress from passing any legislation are turning around and screeching about how the POTUS hasn't accomplished enough, and that congress hasn't passed enough laws. These are the people that foam at the mouth over there being too much governement interference in their lives that are complaining that congress has passed the least number of new laws in two decades. The Republican party and their supporters are just absurd anymore.

Seriously, get your shiat together. You're going to take this whole country down. Of course, some of you have also stated that you'd like to see this country fall apart, then you attack the POTUS because you think he's destroying it for you.

2012-04-17 01:22:13 PM
Translation:

Why don't the Democrats just rubber stamp every BS bill passed in the House regardless of how batshiat insane it is?

Today you need 61 votes to pass anything through the Senate. The Democrats don't have 61 votes.

The Republicans have used the filibuster rule and the secret hold rule to ensure nothing gets done.

It is disingenuous to call the a Democratically-controlled Senate. Sure they have a majority, but not the supermajority that is required.

Well over 1,000 days without a budget from Senate Democrats.

Last time the Senate had a budget, Tiger Woods was only known for his golfing abilities.

And the national debt was $4 trillion smaller than it is today.

Teabagger: No no no. God's will was for McCain to win, then have a heart attack 2 weeks after inauguration, leaving St. Sarah the Chosen as POTUS for life. Nobamfartbo was elected because of a Soros funded project to usurp the will of Babby Jebus.

We know. You just want the Democrats in the Senate to rubberstamp the GOP budget proposals no matter how unrealistic and terrible they are.

Don't act like you actually care about the budget. You're just upset that the only thing standing in the way of the GOP pushing it's agenda is the Democrats in the Senate.

Yes. The only function of the senate is to vote, not debate or deliberate. Explain the average hours in session.

Of course it's stupid, and I'm not quoting you. Just talk to my dad and his friends for more than fifteen minutes, and all one gets is "the only thing the government can do right is to dissolve itself." They're also the ones who simultaneously claim that Obama is all-powerful, a shill for evil unions, and a wimpish neophyte. They complain about government intrusion, and then consistently vote for the champions of NSA snooping.

Don't defend the teabaggers by putting words in my mouth, not when all GOP reps in the House pledge fealty to a guy famously quoted for saying, "I just want to shrink [government] down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

I agree with both of you, it just bothers me when people on the right scream "Obama threw away a trillion bucks on stimulus that did nothing!" when 1/3 of it was spending through tax cuts, which Republicans love and is usually touted as the path towards economic recovery.
