karnal: Well over 1,000 days without a budget from Senate Democrats.

Last time the Senate had a budget, Tiger Woods was only known for his golfing abilities.
General Motors had never declared bankruptcy.
No one had heard of Swine Flu.
And the national debt was $4 trillion smaller than it is today.

You forgot about the iPad.

I didn't forget...I edited that one out.

Why bother spending more time when everything you propose is filibustered?

How many times a day do they want to hear "no?"

You are so correct....poor, poor Democrats can never catch a break.

What the hell does that mean? Do you deny that almost everything (important) the Dems propose is filibustered?

important or self-serving?

So the Senate did nothing because the Republicans are blocking everything (via filibuster threats). Old news is so exciting.

Car_Ramrod: Corvus: Car_Ramrod: Well, the actual stimulus was like ~$550 billion, with ~$275 billion in tax cuts.

Tax cuts are "spending" when Democrats do it. Not just when Republicans do it.

whidbey: 550 bil is still one heck of a chunk of change. The 275 billion figure is more of a cautionary tale to not elect Republicans.

I agree with both of you, it just bothers me when people on the right scream "Obama threw away a trillion bucks on stimulus that did nothing!" when 1/3 of it was spending through tax cuts, which Republicans love and is usually touted as the path towards economic recovery.

You made the mistake in thinking that Republcians have cognitive dissonance.

The H1N1 flu strain has been involved in many outbreaks prior to 2009. These included the 1918 Flu pandemic for which death toll estimates range from 20-100 million, the U.S. outbreak of 1976, the U.S. outbreak of 1998, the 2007 Phillipine outbreak, and many more. Do facts matter in your world?

FTFY. What constitutes good or bad is a separate debate, but the point you're trying to push is more than a little stupid.

That isn't a particularly meaningful observation, since the definition of "bad" in question appears to be "anything the Democrats do, try to do, or just generally support".

Today is both. Not pursuing doomed-to-fail legislation means the Senate Dems are lazy and ineffective, to be criticized for not passing enough laws even though the critics think there are too many laws already. Meanwhile, pursuing the doomed-to-fail Buffett Rule just to make a point means the Senate Dems are disingenuous, pandering time-wasters who wish to rob Real Americans(TM) at gunpoint.

I really wish there was a way to turn cognitive dissonance into a reliable power source.

SurfaceTension: Two points:

First, who is complaining about this? Conservatives? The story is certainly made to sound like a criticism, and yet the people criticizing are the ones saying that the government does too much.

Second, when every legislative initiative proposed by the majority is immediately filibustered, or otherwise blocked, by the minority, it IS extremely difficult to get things done. I'd say the record has less to do with initiative on the Dems part and more to do with the obstructionist Repubs.
