No mention of China's requirements for World of Warcraft? I am disappoint.

Wow... very surprised that Sim Ant made the list considering how obscure of a title it was. I remember playing that game in the early 90's on the computer, which still had the vomiting cutscenes in it by the way. There should be more ant colonizing strategy games out there...

Nothing about the team name "taliban" being removed from Medal of Honor

Very true. I loved conquering the house and driving away the dog and lawnmower. That and amassing huge armies of ants to tame the spiders.

I found the only way to win was by not playing. Any particular part of the yard that I was in needed a lot of micro managing to effectively beat the red ants, all the other areas I wasn't paying attention to would dominate the reds by themselves.

Obscure? Wasn't that game wildly popular in the 90s? Everyone I know played it in elementary school...

I have decided that the Android Market needs two apps:

1.) Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow

2.) SimAnt

Hopefully without ruining my memories of childhood.

I'm surprised Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) wasn't included. All the cross symbols at the churches were replaced by pentagrams, and now they're tridents -- in both the Japanese and American versions, I believe.

I just played as the spider and parked myself by the red anthill.

Pokemon is never going to happen. Nintendo would rather go bankrupt then put their IP on a cellphone or any other platform they don't directly control.

What, no "Root Beer Tapper"? (The original arcade version, "Tapper", had a huge Budweiser sign, which may have been the first ad in a video game.)

Them guys sure got hella surly when they were hopped up on root beer! (Here in the big city we like a little more sass in our sarsaparilla.)

Doesn't have to be legal. There is a N64 emulator on the Android Market already.

I don't have any ROMs though.

Also, came for WoW and China. Leaving satisfied.

Germany has some strict rules for games. I worked on Command & Conquer 3, and it was funny as hell. Nukes are called "aurora bombs" and the damned suicide bombers instead run up, plant bombs, and then run off flailing before disappearing. Their icon picture is even different: the dude is holding the bomb up and pointing at it while cheesing.

Also, WW2 games have to have different art because of the restrictions on Nazi symbols. Germany and Australia, man, they're the ones that can make you grind teeth.

I was more a fan of the Opponent repulsificator in Carmageddon II. I would position my upside down opponent so his nose or butt were on the corner then repulsify him. This would usually cause him to be split in half

Comparing a political talk show having a 15 minute uninformed discussion involving a couple guests who were incredibly misinformed with a nation flat-out banning the entire game isn't really a very good comparison.

Xenosaga 2.

i2.ytimg.com

Censored in America... by the Japanese game company themselves. Because they themselves knew showing the rape of a little girl as tittilating as possible wouldn't play out so well in America.

That's right. They KNOW it's bad, but released it in Japan anyway because they know their audience and society is okay with that sort of thing. But they know that shiat doesn't fly elsewhere, so they pre-emptively, voluntarilly altered their own product.

2012-04-17 04:49:51 PM
Best censorship overall was "Manhunt 2" where all the kill scenes had to be blurred out because they were so graphic. Which is too bad, because that game still has some of the best kills in history.

Fox News talked about it for 5 days (Jan 21st - 25th 2008). Singapore had it "banned" for less than 3 days, and that was 5 days before the intended release. I'd bet more people in America knew it was banned/unbanned in Singapore than actual citizens of Singapore.

And it wasn't the nation that banned it, it was a few uniformed fools (like Fox News) who decided to ban it, realize how asinine it was, then unbanned it.

I'd say it's a valid comparison since it was both a bunch of fools making uniformed remarks/decisions about something they didn't know.

The instruction booklet for the first "Manhunt" is one of the greatest instruction manuals ever. It was styled as a mail-order catalog of snuff videos, with classified ads from murderers -- Craigslist was totally ripped off from the "Manhunt" manual.

"It's possible that you found this catalog in an alley, stumbled across it in a friend's apartment, or maybe uncovered it at the scene of a crime. Put it down, then forget you ever saw it. And remember this phrase, 'I didn't see anything.'"

Since all of them Hitler shenanigans originated in Australia, I could see where they might be somewhat sensitive to it.
