And then a young, brash Hollywood exec stood up during a meeting and said, "We have a stack of original screenplays sent in by real writers. Why don't we look at some of them?".

That young, brash Hollywood exec is now resting in the Nevada desert next to Moe Green.

Original scripts like Jennifer's Body?

I'm not really astounded by the Wolverine/Weapon X story choices, but they sucked. Better Wolverine stories could have been 48-50 (Memories Unbound / Shiva), or perhaps X-Men 25 (Fatal Attractions)

One thing I liked about First Class was the lack of Wolverine (except for the one pretty funny scene). Not that I don't like the character and Hugh Jackman does a good job but jeez, every movie is the Wolverine Show. I guess because he's the most "normal" and more like a regular leading man type of character than the rest but we get it already.

Wouldn't they have to reboot The X-Men anyway since they either killed off or "cured" most of the characters?

antidisestablishmentarianism: Original scripts like Jennifer's Body?

Not sure what your point is but no.

No, at the end of the last X-Men movie with wolverine they showed Magneto possibly regaining a little of his power so the cure may not be permanent.

And first class is my favorite X-Men movie to date.

YES - and it's refreshing. Rather, I hope it will be, instead of a complete flop.

Me too. It was such an amazing step up after X3 & Origins that it restored some of my faith in the franchise. Plus Fassbender is just awesome. I really wanted to hate the guy but I love him more every time I see him in a movie.

Yeah I know, with the chess piece but I don't really think that was meant as a setup to a sequel. I think it was just an open ended ending where the audience could imagine what happened next. Simply canceling out the major plot point of the last film is venturing in 80's slasher film territory where nothing that happens to the villain has any consequence. Besides which, Professor X is still dead.

They'll probably treat First Class as a reboot. If they insist on continuing making these farking movies instead of something original or at the very least a different set of comic book characters.

Ohh and FYI I didn't stay past the credits either because the movie sucked so much, I just happened to see this one day.

Yeah, that's a great filmmaking strategy. Put a major plot point in after everyone in the audience except for those in cosplay are gone. That's a great way to sell your sequel and not have the general audience say, "WTF, that motherfarker's dead!".

2012-04-17 11:54:09 AM
Yes, because that's what we need, more shiatty comic book movies. I like it best when they make shiatty comic book movies, then "re-boot" the franchise three years later with different actors and creative direction. And then do that again.

Please do "Demon in a Bottle" for the next Iron Man movie. RDJ could get the first ever acting Oscar for a comic book movie.

The problem with that particular strategery is that all those comics were purchased by people actually invested in the characters and the universe, and I would say very, very few of those stories would hold up against a focus group screening involving Ma and Pa Kettle from West Bumfark, Nebraska. Because it would be horrible for Hollywood to actually produce ten genre films directed at a certain demographic that made $50 million each as opposed to a popcorn blockbuster directed at Joe Q. Generic that made $500 million.

Infinity Gauntlet.
Age of Apocalypse.
Civil War (could actually be reimagined and done well in movie format).
Ultron Unleashed.
Baron Zemo and the Masters of Doom forming in response to the Avengers.
Kang the Conqueror.
Corvac.
The Fall of Hank Pym as a Lifetime Original Movie.

Right and that's cool but enough with the post-credit sequences already. No one wants to sit through 10 minutes of credits to watch a 30 second clip that they just should have put in the actual movie. On very rare occasions I'm in the credits and I don't care if you read my name. You don't care who the 17th guy under the 13th guy under the 119th guy is and nor should you. Show the whole movie and release the audience to get on with their lives.

Well they use dont scale well. If you have just one movie to promote and produce it more cost effective than producing and promoting ten. And only one can be the Happy Meal toy!

I'm pretty stoked for just about everything Marvel's got on the horizon. And I don't mean Xmen and Spidey movies either. I had heard rumours, but when I saw this article, I literally squealed.

Gaurdians of the Galaxy movie

And the good Guardians too. Star-Lord, Rocket and Groot with the remains of the old Infinity Watch. I can't wait.

I'm sorry but he got that Oscar for dying. Yes he should have gotten it for a host of other rolls but The Joker was his last one. And a weeping widow to accept the award?!! How could the Academy pass that up?!

I remember talking about getting Raul Julia a posthumous Oscar. Too bad his final movie was Street Fighter! Could you imagine?

So their next project is going to be (barely) one story, with key pieces of plot split across ooh, say four or five different films, of varying quality, all released a few weeks apart, all directed by different people, with a couple of shared characters (who will apparently possess the ability to be in multiple places at once) and the result about as coherent as the rantings of a crackhead schizophrenic?

I don't care whether he died or not, I think he legitimately deserved it. And it's too bad that he coincidentally died so people think that's why he got the award. But that wasn't really the point of my post.

No. Fox still owns the rights to Spidey and FF. Since they were major players in Secret Wars, I doubt it can be done without those characters (and villains from those comics).

I was never a big fan. I always thought they were stiff and didn't gel very well. The New Guardians were a lot of fun. Most of them had worked together before and Rocket and Groot were badasses.

To be fair, I haven't read any of the New Guardians. It's mostly nostalgia talking. I had the first...25, 30 episodes of that run.

No more! Let it stop with Avengers. No more Spiderman reboots, Superman reboots, or Dare Devil or Bat Man reboots (you know they will come after this last one).

And by the way, making something 'edgier' just means you're a hack who cannot work within the material.

What a novel idea... using the 45 years of stories you already have for movie ideas instead of getting some Hollywood hacks to shiat out an idea that will certainly flop.

Someone let Warner Brothers know that this is possible! Oh, and tell them that it's okay to use more than one story and villain, you don't have to use the same bald one over and over in every film you make about a character for 35 years.

Still have nightmares about DC vs Marvel.

Don't you mean using the same 5 stories regurgitated from 45 years of comic books instead of taking a chance on an original screenplay that might start a new franchise and make people not sick and tired of seeing the same shiat every year?

What do I care, I work on the technical end, it's all the same to me.

You didnt need to watch the credits to know that the intro of the braindead body was so hamfisted and a little out of the blue that it stuck with me. When he died I just said OK he went to the body.

Well, yes, that is a bigger problem, but in the past when I've mentioned that there are too many comic book movies and that the majority of them suck, I've been told to STFU and then told how great it is that we have films like Jonah Hex and Green Lantern.

So I just figured I'd go with the easier target of lack of creativity in the DC comic book movies.
