Tatsuma: Well, he is a jackass, but I don't think its the President's job to say something like that.

Also, to be fair, if I was a rapper, i'd wear that as a badge of honor

"Chocolate cake is good"?

With ice-cold milk? Sure, I'll try some.

And then you'd have the GOP asking, "What's wrong with angel food cake?"

Kanye West is talented?

He sounds like a drugged up retard that has had his grill smashed in.

Another Obama Lie.

9beers: If I had a time machine, I'd go back and rig the vote so that Pink won instead of Taylor Swift. Kanye would have got his ass knocked out if he would have tried that shiat with my girl Pink.

True that.

Are your memories so short? Obama referenced Jay-Z's "Dirt off your shoulder" in 2008 and even had Jay-Z included on some "What's on your iPod" fluff piece for Rolling Stone (it made bigger news that John McCain's was loaded with ABBA, though.)

However, he expressed concern over his daughters - Malia, nine, and Sasha, seven - listening to some rap songs.

"I am troubled sometimes by the misogyny and materialism of a lot of rap lyrics," he said, "but I think the genius of the art form has shifted the culture and helped to desegregate music."

He said the hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and the rappers Jay-Z and Ludacris were "great talents and great businessmen".

"It would be nice if I could have my daughters listen to their music without me worrying they were getting bad images of themselves," he added.

How soon everyone forgets why we thought Obama was cool in 2008. But apparently I will remember forever, because this is the information that my brain chooses to store instead of useful things.

SpectroBoy: Yes, Kanye actually believed that Bush twirled his metaphorical mustache and said "Send no aid to Katrina... It's only black people.... bwaaahahahahahahahah". This is actually what Kanye believes.

No I think he believes if white people were running around on TV saying it's a disaster, and there homes was destoryed and they had no food, Bush would of done a little more than sharing cake with McCain. He didn't say "Don't send aid" but he didn't do much about it or or oversee what was happening either.

It might not have been about them being black it might of been just Bush incompetence but you are still making a strawman.

poot_rootbeer: cameroncrazy1984: So, it's news that Obama STILL thinks Kanye is a jackass?

No, it's "news" that Obama said he prefers Jay-Z to Kanye, three months ago.

The part about Obama still thinking Kanye is a jackass is pure projection on the author's part.

No Obama confirmed that he still thinks Kanye is a Jackass:
Link to the entire article (although the author does go a bit overboard when fellating Obama, it's a decent read)

"Although I like Kanye," Obama continues, with an easy smile. "He's a Chicago guy. Smart. He's very talented." He is displaying his larger awareness of the question, looking relaxed, cerebral but friendly, alive to the moment, waiting for me to get to the heart of the matter.

"Even though you called him a jackass?," I ask.

"He is a jackass," Obama says, in his likable and perfectly balanced modern-professorial voice. "But he's talented." The president gives a wink, poses for a few more pictures, and then glides away to meet with the rich Manhattan lawyers in the other room, leaving behind a verdict that he intended to be funny, and also entirely deliberate: even before an audience of one, the leader of the free world is still not letting Kanye West off the hook.

Bush.

"He is a jackass," Obama told Samuels. "But he's talented."

Even handed approach to loaded question.

West, probably busy keeping up with his Kardashian (that would be Kim), hadn't responded to Obama's comments as of Thursday afternoon.

Oh FFS, how does that conversation go exactly?

"Hey, Kanye, we got Obama to call you a jackass again. Would you like to say something stupid in response so I don't have to go find anything real to write about?"

That's silly, Tats. It's like asking a President if a football player did some football thing that was out of line (I don't know football, okay.) He can contribute to the daily conversation, the water cooler (or Fark.com) stuff.

America is celebrity-obsessed, and pop culture and celebrity are a type of narrative that people follow and gossip about. Music is a part of the fabric of people's lives. The President mentioning that he knows a little something about these topics makes him a little more human and approachable. Which is important - because people vote for the guy they could have a beer and watch the game with. And not just that, they like to vote for that guy. It's not pulling teeth to get them to the polls.

Obviously, the President shouldn't be refreshing TMZ half the day to see which celebrities are old and ugly now. But if Obama puts on some attitude like he has too much hauteur to pay attention to the stuff that makes the headlines in the country he governs, he'll quickly run into problems. He already has power and dignity because of his position. There's no loss of prestige in the Presidency. But in order to keep that Presidency, he needs to act like he's someone who sees himself serving the needs of the average voter instead of considering himself dramatically above the average voter.

Do you think so? It's about the same as my family's effective tax rate, and while it's true the president has a better income than mine, I don't have a state income tax to deduct.

I was cruising the TV last night, and I saw on one of the TV shopping channels, they had cut to a model to talk about a hair removal kit. (I stopped because she was hot not because she was hawking a hair removal kit) She started going on and on about how every 10 year old needs one, because 10 year olds with arm and leg hair get teased, and it ruins their lives. She asked for agreement from the other ladies that were there with her, who were all looking at her with this look of absolute shock/horror on their face, and total *crickets*. It took several seconds for the producers to cut to a different thing altogether.

That was pretty funny, too.
