You can't fight the market - there's a demand, and there's a hell of a lot of profit in supplying it.

In fact dropping retail price seems to indicate that the market is working the way it should.

But no worries, I'm sure expanding government programs to control the free desires of the people will work out eventually.

I tried cocaine once and only once. The experience completely SUCKED and I could not stand the way it made me feel. I have to wonder if there's just something in my biochemistry that's a little different, since so many people seem to love it. I just felt like my head was going to explode, my heart was racing and I felt very agitated and edgy.

But just because I don't like it doesn't mean it should be illegal.

Pretty poorly written article. I will respond to some points as the resident Colombian here.

1. The guy states that Colombians used to process the cocaine in their basements until it become popular.

I have never seen a Colombian house with a basement plus the chemicals used to process the stuff stink to high heaven and are highly flammable.

I remember coke in the 80s for $80s a gram and in the 90s and 2000s fluctuating between 40 and 60, those are prices in the US and it wasn't realliy stepped on.

People have switched to popping pills these days, easier to get and safer.

Popping pills like oxy or xanax is hardly safer. People on that look like shiat.

Put me in the "don't like it" category. Did it a few times, no idea why people pay so much money for it.

George Will notes that the price of cocaine has dropped between 80 and 90 percent over the last three decades.

Maybe I just wasn't with the right people, though.

Because you probably don't want to go to prison and you want your heart to last you a few more decades. Some idiots couldn't care less about either of those consequences. Shrug.

It's funny that people get all Darwin-y when some hick decides to jump his dirt bike across a ravine yet those same people do blow and abuse painkillers. Funny

Not really.

The increased price for hookers kind of makes it a wash.

Having spent time engaging in hookers and blow in my past, I never understood the fascination with blow. It only took a couple of times doing blow to realize that blow is a waste of money. Hookers on the other hand.......

A helluva lot more people die on painkillers than on recreational drugs. Just because it came from a guy in a white coat instead of a leather coat doesn't make it any safer, genius. You just trade one pusher for another. And your insurance might pay for it! Yay!

Actually, real painkillers are not particularly damaging to your body by themselves. Cocaine ain't good for you at all, and with de-wormers and crystal meth and who-knows-what-else in it, bad idea.

I wouldn't partake. I've got a beautiful wife and have no need but my grand dad lost my grandmother a few years back. And she had been sick since she was in her 40s so you know damn well he hasn't had sex in decades but stood by her and was the most amazing example of love and commitment I could have ever witnessed. Poor guy, he gets harassed by every gold digging old coot in town b/c his bills are paid and he has a sweet pension and benefits. Plus, for a 75 year old dude, he's in amazing shape. So why the FARK can't he go get some tail without any strings attached?

Coke can be fun, but it really is a waste. For me it mostly made me jittery, agitated, and borderline angry the whole time.

Personally if I'm going out I'd rather roll. Good molly keeps you awake like coke but without making you agitated. Plus everything is so great when you roll. After the first time I tried that stuff, I never understood why anyone would take coke over that.

It's illegal because it's one of those things that the far right and far left agree on and they're the ones who actually vote.

I think that he's saying that if there were more low-wage jobs - which even the most liberal of economics like Paul Krugman agree are eliminated by increasing the minimum wage - then drug dealers would make more money and drugs would cost more.

You can overdose on water, junior. If you don't OD, opiates by themselves do little damage to your body. You get high, then you come down. Yeah, you can do stupid things while high which are dangerous. The acetaminophen in Vicodin can kill your liver (esp with alcohol) but acetaminophen isn't an opiate. Cocaine and meth can do immediate permanent damage to your heart and other major systems.

Are you a liar, misinformed or stup[id?? Because Krugman says, "So let me repeat a point I made a number of times back when the usual suspects were declaring that FDR prolonged the Depression by raising wages: the belief that lower wages would raise overall employment rests on a fallacy of composition. In reality, reducing wages would at best do nothing for employment; more likely it would actually be contractionary."

there are many from the 1970's disco club / coke scene experiencing health problems. as they are older their stories will either not be heard by those who could benefit or go ignored, and a whole new crop of young nasal passages will be laid to waste.

mankind by it's life cycle seems doomed to reliving and relearning lessons that should be put to rest. young folks are doomed to make their own mistakes, generation after generation. life is funny.

The trip from ecstasy is called "rolling" because of the way the feeling the drug causes has peaks and valleys.

/never tried ecstasy... was more a pot man myself back in the day.

People have switched to meth, and crack stretches coke. There's only so much drugs that the world's drug addicts will buy. Add in the increased agricultural productivity of the last few years and the diseases caused by the cut and you've got a recipe for a glut.

Kinda crazy that most of the coke in the world is being produced in Columbia and they can't stop it.
