Is the 'student' actually trying to forbid anybody study a controversial subject in an academic setting?

With the same said student advised, in advance, that they may find some content objectionable and that they may opt out at their discretion?

That student has no value to gain from academia if s/he didn't think those two basic premises out.

In fact, I would prefer the school to kick the stick-in-the-arse out!

Called "Advanced Sexual Techniques, Volume One" the video contained both sexually explicit audio and graphic video. The complaint came as a surprise to administrators considering Giff's course was about human sexuality.

You're surprised she's teaching human sexuality in a human sexuality class?

No, they were surprised by the complaint because she was teaching human sexuality in a human sexuality class, which means they didn't expect any complaints about the material.

That's like demanding to not be taught the subject they're being taught.

Fresno State University public health professor Peggy Gish had to defend her curriculum when one of her students complained earlier this week that she showed a 20-minute pornographic film in class, website Campusreform.org first reported.

It's college. It's a class ABOUT sexuality. What the hell is the matter with this?

Trying to legislate college classrooms by protest now I'd guess. Nothing Republicans hate more than people learning things.

Well, see, that's looking at it from a point of view that, like, makes sense, especially considering the students were warned that they might find some of the material objectionable.

I think it's obvious that the student enrolled in that class for no other reason than to be able to complain about it.

Doubly so given the site reporting it. It's someone working for the site that enrolled so they could make a story.

Porn leads to masturbation. Masturbation leads to liberal gay abortions.

its possible. sounds like the course material went out of its way to alert students to the fact that there might be some explicit discussion of human sexuality during class and that it might offend some people. if someone went and got offended after being warned ahead of time about the course material then either they are a complete idiot or they're looking to manufacture a controversy.

If you want it all controlled in some moralistic manner, either go back to high school or enroll in an esteemed institution like Bob Jones. They'll tell you what you want to hear.

IT IS FRESNO!

If the video had involved Bestiality or Pedophilia there would not have been a complaint!

Fresno is located in the heart of California's Central Valley The Central Valley is famous for:
Agriculture
Protesting illegal immigration
employing illegal immigrants
Meth
Have one of the highest concentrations of sex offenders in the State
Religious Fundamentalism
and
Being TEA Party "conservative."

/I am hoping the wife gets the job she interviewed for in Phoenix, I look forward to the saneness of AZ compared to here.
// Yes the Central Valley makes AZ look Libtard

College is the one time in your life you'll have lots of time to be outraged about anything and everything, no matter how silly.

My kid takes this course, when he watch porn for free, and he's in some serious shiat.

Twenty years ago, when I was at a liberal arts college, it was mainly the extreme liberals and feminists who were outraged by pornography. Dworkin and McKinnon used to write about how it was objectification of women and perpetuated rape and oppression of women. I don't know if they still beat that drum anymore or not.

Which, I should add, is not to say social conservative types weren't opposed to it for different reasons, but they generally weren't teaching classes in the political science and philosophy departments of my college.

There are times when porn is not acceptable, when it's pictures of Republican nudity.

Except that according to TFA, this wasn't porn. It's only porn in the sense that John Ashcroft thought the statues of Justice were porn.

Not to get too pedantic, but if you've ever seen any of these "instructional videos," it's pretty much porn. Maybe more tasteful, the people in them slightly less skanky, and maybe not so many obvious "money shots," but definitely as close as one can get. At least, back in pre-internet days, they used to sell these "instructional videos" to bypass some states' obscenity laws. I saw some in college and they were just hilariously cheesy. I don't know if this particular video falls into that category or not. But, one man's porn is another man's art or science. "I know it when I see it," etc.

along with a disclaimer from the professor describing the class that basically said "you wont' like this if you're a prude" but they attended the class anyway?

Teaching a Human Sexuality course without including pornography is like claiming you are part of a religion without studying the accompanying holy book... oh,

Nevermind...

I had a girlfriend who went to U-Dub. One of her freshman classes was human sexuality. She made me go with her on movie day. First movie was like a bj tutorial. Second movie was a couple in their 60's bangin. The class was double it's normal size.

as was my penis.
