The thing I really took away from it - and yes, it's old news - is that Adam Yauch* has a form of cancer.

I'm thrilled that Kennedy performed with the rest of the band. He's not a half bad replacement, the guys got to play together, and the fans got to see something they'll never see again. Axl Rose is a self centered asshole.

I hate that whole sham of a hall as much as the next guy out there, but if you're asked to go to a farking hall of fame induction as an inductee, you stop being a selfish, self-centered dick who seemingly can't deal with his ex-bandmates being popular too and show the fark up, end of story.

No Izzy but they invite Gilby Clarke?

schpanky: No mention of Izzy Stradlin? Was he there?

No. He also wrote a letter saying he wasn't going. Duff published it on his blog. It was a bit shorter than Axl's and basically said he was waiting to see what happened, didn't like what he saw, and wasn't going.

Izzy would only go if Axl showed, plain and simple. It was their band, despite revisionist history (Slash replaced Traci Guns, after failing his audition for Poison). Izzy and Rose were the main songwriters also.

Dizzy Reed didn't go either. His wife tweeted that it wasn't worth spending 20,000$ to attend a dinner "in your honour" when half your bandmates aren't going.

It was funny seeing Gilby Clarke show up when he wasn't inducted yet Izzy, Dizzy, and Axl (who together make awesome Scrabble scores) no-showed.

That's such a load of bs. Most farkers do nothing but whine about the HOF because Rush isn't in it. If it was anyone but Axl most would be loving this, but Axl brings out the haters because they blame him for breaking up the original band, despite there being many, many reasons beyond his control issues (drug use, fame, Slash trying to force him to sing specific lyrics/locking him out of the songwriting process, Izzy leaving the band early on, Duff nearly dying, Etc.).

I watched some youtube clips of Miles Kennedy singing some GnR songs and he's pretty good. He did really well on Rocket Queen.

Even though it's Axl Rose on tour with his version of GnR I wouldn't want to pay to see them. It's just a high ticket price cover band, and Axl seems even more temperamental than ever. I wish Axl would just reveal exactly what Slash did to him. So Slash wasn't an original member. He helped make the band what it was. Tracii Guns couldn't even be bothered to show up at rehearsals which is why Slash replaced him to begin with.

Have you ever sat back and wondered what event, had it happened in your life, would have caused you to actually commit suicide? For me, that would be it. Slash, I applaud your bravery.

I've seen GnR, Slash and Velvet Revolver on tour in the last 5-6 years.

They're all cover bands.

GnR does all the old hits but at least it's Axl singing them. Slash pulls out all the old hits, but has Miles Kennedy singing them. He does a good job but it's not Axl. Velvet Revolver did the same, but because Scott Weiland was the lead singer, it sounded like Stone Temple Pilots were doing the cover. Now, STP doing GNR covers isn't half bad, but it would be 200% cooler if it sounded like GNR doing STP covers.

According to Axl, he'll be "dealing with the fallout for years." Sure. I honestly forget there's even a rock and roll hall of fame until they announce the new inductees once a year...even then all you hear is internet outrage over Rush not getting in. Sorry, but Axl Rose isn't relevant enough to anyone in the music industry for this controversy to even register with most people.

I think it would be one thing if he was, as a solo artist, being inducted. But it's the band being inducted, and instead of being cool for one night, he's being a douche. Personally, I'm not enraged about it, as it sounds like pretty standard behavior for him.

I watched this clip and then another (recent "Welcome to the Jungle" live clip). Axl's sounded better, but he still sounds pretty damn good.
As for his appearance, the guy is 50 years old. Most of the musicians (and fans, for that matter) from 25-30 years ago have probably put on some weight.

What happened to GNR after the early 90s sucks, but I would still rank Axl as one of the most talented frontmen of all time.

The thing that really surprises me about all this, is the fact that Axl didn't pitch a fit about the other band members appearing under the name Guns 'n' Roses. I seriously thought he was going to sue them and the HoF for copyright infringement.

Which is why every major media outlet spent days on the story and this is the 2nd fark thread on it. And of course you took the time to comment on said irrelevant story.

Axl isn't wrong - the media will die down but some GN'R diehards are downright scary about the reunion thing. Lets face it - Pantera was never as big as GN'R and Dimebag still wound up dead at the hands of a crazed fan who blamed him for the band breaking up.

So when I see some of the frothing at the mouth trolls crying about Axl... Yeah. Years of fallout at best.

Disagree completely. Saw the new band twice in the last 6 months, and they were fantastic.

Can you explain how he's being a douche? It's not like he said don't induct the other guys in fact he said he'd never take away their moment. He just didn't want to show up and wind up stuck in a situation where he'd have to reunite with certain people he no longer wants to work with.

That's fair. If my old employer calls me back and says "hey we've got an award for you but the deal is you have to do one last job with that old co-worker you hated" then I'm probably not going.

Just because he's a public figure doesn't mean he owes the world everything they wanted. His divorce comment was spot on - it's life. Things end. The scary part is how badly a lot of people react over a farkin rock n' roll band.

To be fair the rest of his bandmates were still on the junk and circling the drain - it's not like the rest of them were even able to function. I don't blame him for wanting control.

And if he's such a douchbag egomaniac why'd both Izzy and Duff tour with him in recent years? Why has Tommy Stinson - a guy who was already a rock legend - stuck in there for 14 years when a mats reunion could score him easier money (plus the Soul Asylum gig)?

The bottom line is there's one guy Axl won't play with. The same guy has blown through 3 of the best rock singers around in Axl,Weiland, and Corey Taylor. Who many guys get shots with even -one- guy of that calibre? I hope Myles works out for him because I think this is his last chance.

I'm sure Axl is a dick - he's said it himself. He's perpetually late to everything, a control freak/perfectionist, and downright difficult. And I just described every farking rock singer ever. Why people are shocked is beyond me.

I can't believe I'm going to defend William Bailey on anything, but...

The facts are that Slash had already died once, Duff was drinking so much that his pancreas effin' exploded, Adler was already out of the band...I mean, I can totally see William's POV that the whole band was on the verge of collapse & needed to secure as much control over the situation as possible.

That said, Axl is still a POS.

The outrage was admitting Gun and Roses WITHOUT Axl Rose.

Petulant, vindictive, fat. Whatever you want to call him, Axl Rose wrote the songs that made GnR, and his vocals (however you felt about them) defined the sound of GnR.

Motörhead without Lemmy. Queen without Freddy. The Spiders from Mars without Ziggy. That's what GnR is without Axl.

/any R&RHOF without YES, Deep Purple, Rush, The Moody Blues and Heart is a joke by any measure.
