Would he rather half his town was unemployed due to lack of tourism?

FriarReb98: Would he rather half his town was unemployed due to lack of tourism?

No one in the service industry can afford to live in Key West.

Ketchup will certainly keep me away.

They all take the catamaran down from Ft. Myers on the weekends. I've never seen more fold-up massage tables in all of my life...

Speaking of homelessness...

Does anyone else hear this: Link (new window)

as... "We found love in a homeless place!"??

At least he was smart enough to go to Key West. I could never understand being homeless in Detroit.

2012-04-15 12:57:54 AM
The homeless tend to drift south in the winter.

He's right, though. Key West was more interesting when it was full of well-motivated low-lifes waiting for storms to create wreck galleons for them to loot. Today it's full of lazy low-lifes waiting for tourists to loot.

Except for the ketchup he makes a good point but I wouldn't want to sound prejudiced against the 'homed'.

One of the worst condiments ever, made even worse. Bleah.

So he's a key west native then? Somehow, I think not.

Young Adam strikes again.

Mmmmm, Emily Mortimer covered in condiments...

How many itty bitty packets of ketchup did he have to pilfer to get enough to cover himself? Also, liked the Hiassen reference.

To create less homelessness, we should apply the same amazing technology that brought us pink slime. Also, large quantity of catchup will help too.

There was something in Keywest other than tourism?

2012-04-15 01:15:32 AM
He's longing for the days when Key West was supported by turtle canning and the tourists had to come by that absolutely terrifying rail line.

Apparently homeless people covered in condiments.

Life imitates "Joe's Apartment"?

[Joe finds a man lying in a pool of blood]
Joe: Oh, my god! Mister, are you alright?
Walter Sh*t: Two days, seven hours, twenty-three minutes and four seconds. That's how long I've been lying here.
Joe: Are you O.K.?
Walter Sh*t: 'Course not! I'm an artist! I wanted to express how cold, how pitiless this city really is.
Joe: Nobody touched you for two days?
Walter Sh*t: Spitting doesn't count.

I'm sure it was somebody who is tourist dependent that had him arrested. The locals usually don't give a sh*t unless they are wealthy and just there part time.

Well, Key West is a different place. It's sort of "cool" to be a bum. With $1 mojitos, it's also pretty to be an alcoholic.

I love Key West.

Triumph: At least he was smart enough to go to Key West. I could never understand being homeless in Detroit.

In Detroit we call homeless people "CHUD"...basically, the reason they are homeless is because they lack a lot of basic reasoning skills.

And because the drugs are cheap and easy to find in the 313

Key West:Great weather.

That's about it. Intersting thing while I was there, I noticed that there was an "Adult entertainment" house not too far from the hotel. Apparently, the working ladies aren't frowned upon by the cops.

Bro, I know little about Detroit. However, I love a good "B" movie reference. C.H.U.D. was awesome

Key West is awful. It tries to be what St.John is, but the shiatheads from all over the US can get there by bus and not even have to have the moxie to collect a plane ticket.
Tourist didn't ruin Key West, homeless, awful, drugged out conchs, and the trash that ardors them, ruined Key West.

Meh - I liked Key West when I went there. Least uptight town I've been to in the US and you can walk to where you're going. I had fun (and I thought that was the point).

Do we LOOK British?
