That first one was a whole lot of hipster butthurt and self-masturbation. The second part is definitely hipster, so I suppose it's authentic.

We could always go back to defining hipster as it used to be used in prisons: guys who would pretend to be interested in whatever people were talking about so they could have social interaction. Hmm, that's actually not a definition change either.

Anytime I hear the word "hipster" or see someone who roughly fits that description (birth control glasses, stupid mustache, ironic outdated clothing) it makes me what to grab someone by the neck and strangle them.

Hipster is like obscenity, I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. Keep in mind I ride my bike through or on the edge of Stanfurd's campus everyday and take the train home back through it.... I see A LOT of hipsters. Especially getting on the train at Furd with their little fixies, and their skinny jeans, returning home to their flat in the City to drink PBR with their ironic friends.

They're not any stupider, their stupidity is just more offensive-- since it's essentially "what an idiot thinks smart people do, with no understanding of why they do it" it just comes off as mocking anyone with anyone that's actually any kind of intellectual or academic.

I mean, sure, technically the whole "smart people tend to know about more obscure branches of their hobbies" being translated to "liking things no one else knows about makes you smart" is technically sort of complimentary in its stupid, stupid way, but it still boils down to stereotyping the actual person with, say, deep musical knowledge or expertise as just being someone that listens to shiat no one else can stand. That's not actually complimentary in any way. Same with the aping the clothing, out-of-date bicycles, etc, of actual intellectuals. Maybe the hipsters' last memory of someone dressing up awkwardly in their clothing and following them around imitating their movements in an exaggerated fashion without real understanding is a fond thought of a little sibling or something, but for actual nerdy, intellectual kids it's directly associated with bullying and harassment from our peers in grade school.

Also worth noting that the hippies weren't going around doing stupid shiat and then declaring that it made them better than you, and would also frequently share their drugs and food (which also contained drugs, usually). So they were actually pretty cool as outlets for anti-intellectualism go.
