kiwimoogle84: jingks: stratagos: This About That: If you are a pretty girl, having a tattoo means you have made a terrible mistake.

If you are a pretty girl with a tattoo, you're either feeling rebellious or are crying for attention.

In either case, therefore, easier to get in the sack.

Don't worry, as you said, this is fark. There's no pretty girls here to get insulted by your comment.

I beg your pardon.

Everyone has different definitions of pretty but I'm not a cave troll. Don't make blanket statements like that or the three of us might leave Fark altogether- oh the horror.

And I don't fit in most people's boxes. I have many MANY tattoos and I'm neither rebellious or crying for attention. I thought long and hard about them and they're easily covered by a simple t shirt. I'm also one of the most conservative people you'll ever meet. I'm not the typical heavily tattooed person.

Honey -- and I don't mean that in an insulting way, I mean it in an "I like you and want to help" kind of way -- you've got to stop taking things so seriously around here. The bolded part was, I'm sure, just the usual expected Fark fun-snark. (Fnark?) If not, then it wasn't worth a reply at all.

P.S. Nobody "fits in most people's boxes." We all just think everyone else except us does, but that makes us just as judgy as we think they are. See?

my camera doesn't do it justice. it looks much better in real life.

i got this on my leg 10 years ago. my friend was still learning to do them on skin. this was his #23.

i have 3. i do not regret any of them. they are as much a part of my personality as they are my body. i grew up, got married, had kids, got divorced. my life changed. doesn't mean i have to.

This About That: Had to look up "5150" on the omniscient Google. Thought it was a gang tattoo, but really, it's a guitar.

It's a California legal code that basically means "batshiat crazy" to the point where you're a danger to yourself or others.

I believe cops use it as well, it's also ended up in a lot of songs, so I'm not surprised that someone named a guitar based on it.

/search for 5150 + lyrics and you'll get everything from Van Halen to the Luniz.

/and this is a chick that got a tattoo of it on her lip, good luck

Close. 5150 is the code that permits an involuntary psychiatric hold to evaluate you, on the basis that the officer or relevant authority believes you to be an imminent danger to yourself or others.

It's not quite the same thing. Anybody can get sick with an episode of depression, or feel a bit down, and say the wrong thing to the wrong person and find a cop on their doorstep hauling them down for a psych hold "just in case."

And that's what that code section allows for---it's not the commitment to a hospital of people who really are batshiat crazy dangerous, it's the psych holds for the evaluation of anybody who pushes a cop's or other authority figure's "just in case" buttons.

The psych hold is the part of the process that happens before you get to bring your own independently-hired pshrink and your own lawyer in to contest whether you need to stay there (if you're inclined to do that).

Farthest I've ever gotten into the process myself was about four hours of being held, most of which was paperwork while they waited for the pshrink to have an opening to talk to me. Then I talked to him and he told me how to get the douchespeople at the health dept to actually treat me---set me up for outpatient appointments---instead of ship me to him, and he sent me home.

Initial intake processing was pretty scary. They took my credit cards away.

Do the needful: I have to question the sanity of the people questioning the sanity of people getting tattoos, who willingly take the time to post what they wouldn't do in a thread devoted to doing that activity.

So what do you say to the religious threads?

Photographed a model a few years ago, and during the semi-nude portion of the shoot noticed several small-ish tattoos on her back.
I mentioned the unusual location and arrangement. I see and photograph tattoos on female skin quite frequently, but this was of no real pattern,
When I inquired about them her response was, "I got them over the scars after the doctors put my spine back together. I got THAT when my ex-husband tried to kill me."
You get all the ink you want, young lady.

Fear the Clam: kiwimoogle84: I only get up in arms in two types of threads. Motorcycles, and tattoos. And they're related, actually. I started getting ink when I immortalized my late husband, lost to me in a wreck, on my body.

That's cool; even Sarah Palin had to write stuff down on her hand to remember. I would think that a husband might be more memorable than a few talking points, but so it goes.

What. The. Hell. I've seen some trolls, but this is down right retarded. Go eat a bag of tacks.

Why would anybody get a tattoo on themselves that they can only see in a mirror?

I have one that I can only see in a mirror, but I like where it's at. My next will go on the opposite shoulder, and I'll only be able to see it in a mirror. But it's mine and it's for me. You don't have to like it.

Of course it's for you, but wouldn't you enjoy it more if you could see it more easily? I've got a lot of artwork on my walls, but none in the closets.

hockeychick: farkeruk: El Freak: Having a tattoo DOES have meaning. Getting a tattoo tells the world you're an easily led, sub-moronic twit with poor decision making skills.

Not necessarily. I'm not a military guy but I understand that some people get tattoos as a way to say, bond in a group. You fight along side people who put their life in your hands, and you in theirs, and it means something.

And if someone can come up with a tattoo that really means something - like someone getting his Phd in genetics and deciding to getting a double helix, that's cool too.

Celtic tattoos and chinese characters though. Yeah, twits.

Vegvisar, or nordic compass. To hopefully keep me on the straight and narrow.

This is awesome. Vegvisir and Aegishjalmir are going to be my next tattoos (probably on the upper biceps). (I'm totally using your pic for reference. Much better than any drawings of Vegvisir I've seen on-line.)

What a self righteous, ill educated twat. Yes, the majority of tattoos today are poor decisions or frivolous it-meant-so-much-at-the-moment bits of body art. To paint every person with a tattoo as a mindless follower of a body art craze is profoundly ignorant.

I got tattooed for the same reason generations before me did; military service remembered. I know others who get tattooed for cultural reasons (especially in the south pacific). The author needs to check his head space and timing.

What if I get ink because of all the beautiful things in life? Because of things I love? Mine are 90% flowers. Women wear bracelets, earrings, necklaces, right? I wear a garden of chrysanthemums, lotus flowers, blue roses, California poppies (my home state flower) cherry blossoms and sunflowers.

It's just adornment I don't remove.

Well, alright. Sometimes I succumb to the hypnotic affect of my manly chest hair. It's just too powerful. Every now and then, I think about unleashing it on the public, but the women would tear down my house just to run their fingers through it and the men would riot as they have never known such jealousy.

I am presuming that's a rhetorical question, since you say that you hate ink and therefore no explanation would be enough to suffice in your personal opinion. But I would contradict your statement, that it serves not as a reminder of the "evil", but rather the fortitude it took to get through the hard times/loss/physical pain.

Too bad the only decent shot I have of any pieces was the Mjolnir...I need to get a good one of my triquetra, and I have to have the ikthus reworked, due to the contusion that I had in an accident, it warped the image. Thinking of getting a cover of some stylistic ravens....

Not at all. Yo-yo tricks bring the ladies. I made sure I had two with me every time I went to a con.

Seriously, tricks take a long time to get down, and even longer to perform well. When someone puts that much time into it, they like to perform them for people. Once I was showered with so many panties they covered my head. I had to finish my set "blindfolded". Didn't even miss a beat.

I have been promoted twice in the last two years while other "cool tattoo" rock stars are still earning the same salary they got when they were hired 5 years ago.

My niece has his original Duncan Midnight Special hanging in her nursery.

A youoing pinup sounds rad :)

kiwimoogle84: MoronLessOff: aerojockey: Jesus, can't you people wait three days for the swelling to go down before photographing your new tattoo?

Or is the swelling some kind of tattoo street cred.

No, just excitement.

kiwimoogle84: That's awesome. AWESOME I SAY.

It would be, if I were that good. I have way more yo-yos than I need. I have one at work right now.

I think I have a midnight in my case, and a panther, and a whole slew of Yomega yo-yos. Yes, they are superior.

CSB time!
When I was really getting into it, I had a few friends that worked at a toy store who also yo-yo'd. They got these new yo-yos in that had a wooden spool on the axle similar to Yomega's plastic spools. The claim was that the wooden spool grabs the string faster allowing the axle to spin within the spool at maximum efficiency. Boy, was I stupid. The wood just chewed through the string a little bit with each throw. I used to walk everywhere throwing forward passes and practicing loops. One day, I threw a forward pass, the string snapped and my yo-yo flew across 4 lanes of traffic. I almost shat myself thinking someone was going to end up with a busted window. Once it landed safely on the other side of the road, I vowed to never buy one of those pieces of crap again.

Calvin and Hobbes on one ankle, Opus on the other.

Thanks! I'm really glad to have found this guy. I've been really impressed with his work. I usually have to schedule out 2 months because of his bookings, which says something. That's quite an awesome back piece you've got there! I dig the boldness of it. What is the coloring?
