A tattoo is the mark of the lower class. It's doesn't matter whether your whole body is covered or you just got a tiny little butterfly that no one ever sees, you're still low class.

Well my tattoo is deeply meaningful. All my frat brothers in my pledge class got matching Taz tattoos because the older brothers said we were the craziest pledge class they had ever seen. We'll be brothers for life after graduation, and you're just jealous that I'll have connections and networking opportunities all across the country that you'll be shut out of. That's what my tattoo means to me, and you can make your lower class jokes while my brothers are getting me an upper management position on Wall Street right out of school. Have fun being poor, I'll be rich with my tattoo.

Umm.. I wouldn't go with that. They could serve as a signal for someone who might make poor decisions, but there are quite a few well-to-do people who have them. You have to factor in the frat boys with generic tribal bands and all that.

/none for me, please

Well, I agree with you on the tattoo thing, but I'm sad you don't seem to want to lead a life that holds real meaning.

Don't know if my tattoo has any deep meaning apart from my own stupidity - gave it to myself when I was 12 with a bottle of India ink and a needle. Now I gotta live with it.

Some people have a pain fetish associated with getting tattoos and that isn't just lower class.

Also there are a lot of rich people covered in ink, but I am guessing you are just over compensating for something.

If you are a pretty girl with a tattoo, you're either feeling rebellious or are crying for attention.

In either case, therefore, easier to get in the sack.

Oh no. Not this again.

...don't bite on the troll...don't bite on the troll...

Ah, screw it.

I only get up in arms in two types of threads. Motorcycles, and tattoos. And they're related, actually. I started getting ink when I immortalized my late husband, lost to me in a wreck, on my body. It kind of expanded from there because I used tattoos as my personal form of cutting after that. It felt good to hurt rather than feeling nothing.

And darn it, I have a beautiful flower garden on my back that is easily covered for my office job.

Not low class. If they impede you getting a job...maybe. But you can't throw everyone with ink into a box.

ultraholland: but they have such deep meaning

Only sometimes and only if the meaning is good and not an indicator of behaviors in general. Because that would be wrong. Only good meanings as defined by the tattoo wearer, hmmkay?

I guess I don't really care about anything enough to have it indelibly marked on my skin for anyone to see. And if everyone who is seemingly trying to be counter-culture now has a tattoo, wouldn't it be counter-culture to NOT have a tattoo?

Got it as soon as I got published... still get compliments on going with an old typewriter font and putting it somewhere in plain sight. Tattoos that mean something generally have more thought put into them and have more appeal than the masses of flowers, hearts, names, and tribal symbols so many people do today. As far as being rebellious, I guess it all depends on the tattoo and where.
