A. The "Southern Strategy" was invented by liberals in 1968 to attack Nixon annd the GOP. (War on women comes to mind)

B. Many leaders in the South had indeed resisted de-segregation in the 1960s, some going so far as to suggest "massive resistance" to court-ordered equal accommodations for black and white Southerners.

C. Every one of those segregationsts was a Democrat. George Wallace, Bull Connor, Lester Maddox. Democrats every one.

D. Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, were elected by appealing to a united South. Yet no one called any of these Democratic presidents racists because they appealed to Southern voters. No one calls them racist now.

E. Yelling racist and bigot and charging cowardice are the only stratagem left to liberals who cannot win on the merits of their arguments.

G. It's not that liberals are ignorant it's just they no so much that isn't so.

The problem with health care vouchers for the elderly:

Who will insure them?

They are going to require medical treatment and end of life care. They are actuarially uninsurable because they will receive more treatment than what they are putting in. There is no way a private company could make money insuring them.

The option is to let them die, bankrupt their family, or subsidize their health via higher taxes or insurance rates. In all but the first case we will still have to pay for their care.

Richard, after conferring with my family for an inordinate amount of time, we've agreed that we'd like to go with "shiat-eatingly" for the category of "how stupid are Republicans".

Basically dumb enough to come to a constituent meeting and spew democratic socialist talking points and expect to be taken seriously.

My formerly-Republican brother (Michigander) turned 65 around the time the Medicare D passed. He was enraged that he wouldn't be able to get prescriptions in Canada anymore. Denishek should have known better. Sault Ste. Marie is minutes away from Canada. There are parts of Michigan that are north of Canada (hey, Detroit!), and people have been going over the border for cheaper, better medical care for years. One of my cousins offered to put me up if I would just get lasik in Canada instead of the U.S. because she said it was better there and cheaper (ten years ago), even with 100% out of pocket. Seriously, people in Michigan know for a fact that they can get great care over the border because they go over the border for great care.
