Lets all concentrate on this, while we ignore real issues like the economy, or jobs, or foreign policy, or civil rights, or the actual people of the US.

well, it is the politics thread and the tax return issue will be a kick in the balls for the GOP Presidential candidate so there's that.

Chuck Todd lamented about this same point in today's First Read entry....then proceeded to do a breakdown of each of the manufactured controversies of the last 4 weeks.

Hey Chuck: YOU'RE NOT HELPING!

Just like we all know that Obama is black. I'm pretty sure we are all aware that Mitt Romney is rich.

Given that, it will be fun to see what they pick to concentrate on. My bet is Romney's people point to charitable giving.

People who vote on issues already know who they're voting for. We're going to spend billions of dollars on a campaign to get undecideds to identify with a personality.

Ya we know Romney is rich, but showing that he has been historically paying half the tax percentage wise of Americans just above the poverty line, it's pretty much a deathblow.

The UN is as corrupt as Obama and his 850 assorted homosexuals, transsexual, lesbians and other weird thinkers who comprise his enormous staff.

Crawling out of the sewers of Chicago after having been handed an education and credentials by his leftist allies and handlers he proceeded to be elected to the White Hut where he began his life's work of ruining a nation.

Here is an orphan of sorts. His leftist, promiscuous mother dead, his father who never married his mother dead, but he has a plethora of relations that he never sees as they travel in different social circles both here and in Kenya where his grandmother claims he was born.

Millions of dollars have been spent on destroying or coverning up his smarmy past and a billion or more will be spent pulling the wool over the eyes of the nitwitted twits who elected him last time.

And here we are stuck with the son of George Romney.

I don't think the President is trying to highlight Romney's wealth. After a while, numerical vaues become abstract to the average voter.

Maybe they're trying to determine what McCain saw.

Well because Income inequality and the gradual destruction of the progressive tax system over the last two decade have become a pretty big farking deal in a country facing record debt and deficits (especially when Bush's tax cuts are the main reason we went from having a budget Surplus in 2000 and were forecasted to retire the entire national debt by 2030, to running up record budget deficits and being $15 trillion in debt). Now it appears that one of the two men running for president is a poster child for the argument that the wealthy are untder-taxed relative to their earnings, and he just happens to also be championing lowering the tax rates even more.

That level of self-dealing by a person running for president is, or should be, a legitimate issue to explore.

I think Mitt's charitable giving, or more specifically his thithing could be a real problem for him. While he did everything he could to manipulate the amount of money he paid taxes on (including stashing money in off-shore bank accounts) and the rate at which he paid it, he did no such thing with his tithe. That he paid straight up and off the top with out a word of protest or a clever investment scheme to reduce his exposure.

That contrast will be somewhat Unsettlng I think for a lot of middle class voters- that he acknowledges the legitimacy and necessty of paying taxes to his church, but not his government
