I have to say, Booker has always impressed me. He seems like a genuinely nice guy and he goes that extra mile to engage people, going so far as to participate in a monthly call-in program (new window).

bobbette: he also personally patrolled the streets of Newark late at night stopping crimes in his first term.

Privileged and wealthy upbringing, late-night street crimefighter, rescuing people from burning buildings...

Cory Booker really is the Gotdamn Batman, isn't he?

Lollipop165: He's insanely popular in NJ. People honestly ADORE him. I've heard, however, that he's not interested in the bigger political arena because he thinks he can better help people on a lower level.

But if he DOES run...BOOKER 2016! I know a LOT of people in NJ who'd campaign for him. I'd volunteer no problem.

Better off spending some time as gov before going national. Would be more his style as well.

I've been following this dude for a couple of years now. He genuinely seems like the real deal - intelligent, principled and charasmatic. I'm certain he could obtian higher office if he chose to.

For the time being I think his city is lucky to have him.

hmm.. actually all of Street Fight is on youtube (new window) (not-so-cleverly hidden)

Hollie Maea: Always nice to get your life saved by the future POTUS.

Booker can't leave Newark unless there's someone there ready to take over for him and keep the city from slipping back into the decrepit wasteland it was from the riots up through Sharpe James.

And unless the city falls in love with Deputy Mayor Adam Zipkin, Booker's going to be stuck there for the next 20 years.

monoski: Booker was born in Washington, D.C.

Which is not a state, therefore Cory Hussein Booker is not a "natural born citizen" and is ineligible.

As someone born in Newark, I approve this story.

Gulper Eel: Competence and honesty will lose out to brand recognition and steakless sizzle every time. This is why Mitt Romney is the presumptive GOP nominee and not Jon Huntsman.

And why Hillary Clinton got the presidential nomination in 2008, instead of the funny-named black guy who had barely served half a term as US Senator.

I also noticed that he wears a (D) next to his name, so that means he wants to gay-marry a terrorist and put us all in FEMA camps.

hurdboy: And that he's from Newark.

He's actually from a rich town in Bergen County, NJ. His parents were IBM execs.

As another person born in DC, you'd be amazed how many places require you to list a state for place of birth, then get all pissy when you don't have one. The smart ones just list DC as a two letter state abbreviation, but there aren't that many smart ones out there.Lollipop165: monoski: Philip Francis Queeg: monoski: Oh no, imagine the Tea-Baggers heads exploding if we have 16 years of black presidents.

Have we seen his long form birth certificate yet?

Booker was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in the predominantly white, affluent town of Harrington Park in Bergen County, New Jersey.

Corey Booker is from the same neighborhood I grew up in.

Even before he became mayor of Newark, he was a hometown legend. Everyone knew about him. He was a star athlete, a star student..... and of course came from one of the only black families in town :-) Teachers remembered him so well, they'd tell stories about how great he was. I'm not joking.

He's insanely popular in NJ. People honestly ADORE him. I've heard, however, that he's not interested in the bigger political arena because he thinks he can better help people on a lower level.

I'd like to see him run for Governor, if only so I don't have to hear about jabba the Christie any more.

Pure win.

I just read this whole thread. Absolutely nobody hates this guy. I don't think I've ever seen the like.

Giltric: Gulper Eel: Seeing as it replaced the Detroitesque shiatball-husk-of-a-city hundreds-murdered-every-year whiile-the-mayor-skims-the-budget-for-himself system, I'm okay with this.

For all we know that could be the result of his fugitive task force....you know actually tracking felons down and arresting them.

Something like 80% of crimes are committed by 20% of criminals.

CA's 3 strikes law lowered crime by 40-50%.

Career criminals are the problem, getting them off the streets and locking them up for a long time does way more then a camera system.

but now CA is so broke they can't build any more jails.

The Bestest: Philip Francis Queeg: The Bestest: ArgusRun: Plus given the shiat Obama has had to put up with, can you imagine if Booker was banging a white lady? Heads might literally explode.

It didn't seem to be a problem when conservatives were asking Colin Powell to run.

pg

??????????

whoops.. why did I think Colin Powell had a white wife?

In his memoirs it's his greatest regret that he didn't go white.

The supreme court has held that the phrase "Natural born citizen" includes territories of the United States as well as children born of Americans abroad who still hold citizenship and register their children with the local embassy.

Don't know why people are so confused about this, hell wasn't John McCain born in Panama while his dad was in the military?

Well yeah, sure. But John McCain isn't black, so I don't see why it even matters.

chimp_ninja: It's also worth noting that when the mayor was walking around with a security detail and a "HOLY FARK THE BUILDING IS ON FIRE" incident happened, the mayor was the one who ended up pulling a woman out and being treated for second-degree burns.

Ask yourself what other politician wouldn't have ordered his security to take point.

Yeah, Booker seems a little unclear on the idea that the security detail is there to keep him alive and safe.
