Slaxl: Retirony?

Financial planner: It doesn't look like you've been saving anything for the future!
Wiggum: Well, you know how it is with cops. I'll be shot three days before retirement. In the business, we call it retirony.
Planner: Well, what if you don't get shot?
Wiggum: What a terrible thing to say! Oh, look! You made my wife cry!

LITTLE SUZIE IS GROWINK UP.

From the article:

"Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney and his wife had planned to sail around the world in their newly christened boat, "The Live-4-Ever."

This wasn't a true drug raid in the sense we usually talk about on fark. It was a juicer roid nut, who they knew had weapons. How about you go with the standoff or grab quickly outside next time NH and save some lives.

When I first heard the headline on NPR, I thought it was Greenville, which would have meant I might have known who that was... Haven't had an "ohshiat" moment like that for a while.

/still a shame...

Ya know... going after a guy who has shown abusive tendencies and is in the throes of roid rage is a pretty stupid thing to do. It is like kicking a bull in the nuts.

It should have been a simple matter to tail him when he leaves the house for the gym in 26 minutes, check the premises under warrant, and make the arrest where the rager doesn't have access to a high power rifle.

I feel bad for the families and the injured officers, but that raid was really poorly thought through.

CSB Alert!!!

One of my good friends from the military lives in that town and knows the deceased Police Chief very well. He is pretty broken up about his death and appearantly the Police Chief was a widely liked and all arround good guy.

Police haters can hate, but most cops are genuinely good people.

Homes give the alleged criminals the advantage of shooting back, usually. Why can't police wait until their "target" is outside the home and arrest him far and away from his weapons stash? Getting a warrant to the house is easy as pie.

As a former LEO, the power tripping dickheads ruin it for most of the "genuinely good cops." They have a negative influence on public perception and drive away many would be "good cops."

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: Kind of stupid for the Police Chef to take an active part in a drug raid.

I'm thinking the Chief might have know him. Small town, muscleguy lived in his mother's house, maybe grew up there.

He was only 48, so he had a few good years left in him before he entered the "lingering, waiting to die" period.

Kind of stupid for the Police Chef to take an active part in a drug raid.

From reading news stories (I grew up in NH) there were representatives from each of the largest police forces in the area, sounds like they were using the situation as a chance to get some bust experience and he was the one in the front of the group. Still seems kind of dumb to walk up to the front door of a guy with guns who was already in trouble for being irrational.

You know what is gonna piss me off for years to come?

While tons of heavily trained, heavily armed Federal cops were busting a wheelchair bound citizen teaching people to grow pot at Oaksterdam University in a state that said that was okay a guy was across town murdering people at another school and they didn't drop everything to run over and do something to help.

There is the issue right there. Misplaced freaking priorities.

How the F- do you get to retire at 48?

And steroids? How many cops are hooked on them?

I live in a town near there. My wife and I knew him when he was working for the North Hampton PD. He was one of the nicest cops ever, a humble guy. You don't find too many like him anymore. So sad.

Well, it's a small-town police force; he probably joined at age 18, put in 30 years and was fully vested in his pension plan, and decided to get the hell out.

2012-04-13 01:19:53 PM
Somebody on Facebook linked a different article about this last night (no fatalities reported at that time), and noticed the "one week before retirement" bit. Refrained from mentioning it to any of my distraught Facebook friends (I know a lot of ME/NH firefighters, and they're pretty tight with the police). In retrospect, keeping my mouth shut was a very very good idea.

Why exactly are we caring that people wreck themselves with steroids? Why should the police get involved? Jeez, what a waste of lives....
