They'll be able to splash out on some fancy new things.

The stream of donations began to trickle in, but then it turned into a flood and the generosity swept everyone away.

I hate puns.

They're going to be overwhelmed with goodwill

They're getting flooded with money, so they need to drown their tears.

I bet their hearts sank when they read that.

Slaxl: I hate puns.

Puns are simultaneously the lowest and highest form of humor. Which is why a pun is met with "That's horrible. Tell me more!"

Wave of donations swept in to save the family floundering in a sea of sorrow. Sadly, this tide of goodwill could not resuscitate their son, nor drown out the somber atmosphere.

I really feel for the family. It would be terrible to lose a child, much less 2 at the same time. It's good to see the community is rallying around them. Also, she is/was a cutie.

Some people just love to wallow in the misfortunes of others, apparently.

When asked if they had thought they were going to be met with this sea of compassion, they replied "well, we weren't holding our breath, we were just trying to stay afloat"

I have seen worse. A paramedic in the Virginia area fell to his death off of a bridge while on a call. The headline for his funeral mentioned "tributes to a fallen hero". The editor must have been asleep that day....

Good to see the donations didn't just drizzle in.

That my friend makes sense. Especially on a windy day with cold water. Also in tfa it mentions how they believe the paddle boat may have been overloaded. Everytging here could havebe been avoided. What a shame...

I understand how you might feel engulfed with negative emotions when faced with such comments. But when you're in Fark it's best to keep the emotions swept away lest you become overwhelmed and spiral into a fit of depression. Let the emotions wane and immerse yourself in the vibe. Ebb.
