On The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special - In 3-D! On Ice! they did say it was based on Springfield Oregon and that some of the road names were taken right from the real city.

Who Gives a shiat "Where" Springfield Is?

I think the link title sums this up fairly well.

Matt, I'm saying this as someone who grew up near Springfield Oregon, please just let them have this. Their only other claims to fame are Kip Kinkel and their high per capita consumption of methamphetamine.

Thank you for solving a minor mystery in my head. Not the location of Springfield, but why it was suddenly a hot topic lately.

Considering things they've said, like West Springfield is the size of Texas, and there was that time Sideshow Bob wanted to kill Bart by firing through a place where 5 states met, it seems obvious that it's a cartoon... it doesn't exist, nor should it so we should stop worrying. It's like Friends, it's set in a place called New York, I think, but it's not real, there is no such place, it's just made up for TV, so let it go.

Trying to pin down a real location for Springfield is pitiful. There isn't one, and any "clues" you might chase will be contradicted in some other episode, if not the same one. It's like earnestly trying to solve the question of why the chicken crossed the road.

I suck at Photoshop. Anyone willing to shoop a trollface onto Matt Groening?

They keep saying Groening is a gun nut. I assumed "Springfield" was a reference to his rifle.

People jump to conclusions because they don't like to not know things no matter how stupid they are. Also, 95% of those people will hate it if you do reveal it because it's not up to their fantastical expectations.

Which I haven't since I was 10 years old.

If you paid attention, before the writers started phoning it in 10 years ago, you can figure out where it is.

Springfield is in California. Proof?

1. Near an ocean
2. Near a desert
3. Mountains
4. Software company (run by Hank Scorpion) upstate
5. Arnold Schwarzeneggar lives in same state.

springfield is a magical town, only accessible by the rest of the world one day a year: smarch 19th.

wear a slicker and boots, though, 'cause the weather is usually lousy then

after this many episodes, Simpson's Springfield would not be consistent with any actual city in the U.S, as there is enough evidence from their episode library to disprove (new window) that the Simpsons live in any one of the 50 states.

I'm pretty sure they did...they even went so far as to say certain characters were named after streets in the town...

ihatedumbpeople: I'm pretty sure they did...they even went so far as to say certain characters were named after streets in the town...

That would be Portland. There are many streets like Flanders, Kearney etc. Also Matt Groening is from here where he used to live on Evergreen Terrace.

Simpsonville, Kentucky. Right next to Shelbyville, Kentucky and near a nuclear power plant:

Nowhere near a desert.

It's in Illinois. You know how I know? Shelbyville is right next to Springfield in Illinois. All your points are invalid.

I give a shiat. I don't want to be anywhere near Springfield when our government goes NWB on that poor town.

It's not Illinois, because they go to "Capitol City" which in Illinois would be a town called Springfiled. Capitol City also has professional sports teams (like Boston?)

It's all of the above. Get over it.
