I'm here...lurking in the shadows. Just installed the iheartradio app on my Fire and am playing with it now. Found a pretty good Classic Rock station out of Dallas - not sure why, but I found that somewhat surprising.

Sorry for the minor threadjack - can't post Kitty pics from the Fire so I'll ask a Kitty question instead...is it safe for a cat to eat ham? I made a ham today and had Cracker Jack's complete attention when eating dinner.

Don't take the chance. Cat's have a hard time digesting the fat. Something about large molecules.

Meep was hospitalized for 3 days with pancreatitis. The vet was fairly certain it was due to a pork scrap she had 'stolen' from my plate two days earlier.

I am interested in that question too because Little Miss Abby Normal is a ham-fiend! She tried to drag the Easter ham off of the counter by her self. Too bad I was too far away from the video camera. That would have been a classic.

Sickapie: Haha, my cat Ivan, who also has a white face...he also LOVES sauce, any kind. It was not uncommon to see him a few hours later with his muzzle bright orange from stealing from Chef Boy-r-dee from someone.

Dragon too loves sauce of any kind. What I find funny is that if I make it from scratch his face gets red, and it will fade as he cleans himself in a couple of hours. Yet, anything from a can turns his fur a weird sort of fluorescent orange color that lasts for weeks. Makes me wonder what the hell is in their "sauce".

in2it: How to keep kitty out of flower pot

OK, I can't keep real plants because of you know who, so as ingenious as that idea looks, my first thought was that my bonehead white boy would get his head caught in the hangers and strangle himself. Please do not misunderstand me, I'm not crapping on your idea, it's just that you have to have lived with a cat who is not quite the sharpest tool in the shed (and that's putting it politely)

As an alternative, may I suggest buying bags of large rocks (from the dollar store - hey, I have to do this with my plastic plants). I can't say it would work with real dirt.... Just MHO, FWIW.

I see a lot of people make similar comments about their cats, and it makes me wonder... what if we are just really over-estimating how smart cats are in general? I mean... if we keep finding "exceptions to the rule" this frequently... is the rule valid?

I gather that Archie got to watch his favorite movie today. My folks went out and got him a copy of Ice Age, which he will sit and watch very consistently. He is particularly fond of Skrat, and will sit about a foot from the TV, and watch intently whenever that animated rodent is on.

my thought was twist ties to secure the hangers together to A) keep them from being moved out of the way ( I know my cats would just slide them over) and B) keep them uniformly spaced to avoid a head insertion.

I agree with yobbery, it seems that cats have an issue with what we call a "fresh ham". On the other hand, I have never had a problem with sliced deli-style ham (which is Dragon's second favorite after honey-smoked turkey breast). I admit I have no clue as to what the difference is, but better safe than sorry, so I too would it avoid it if you can.

Unless of course you live with a feline garbage disposal unit with a cast iron stomach like I do. Who else has a cat that likes (and does not vomit up) everything from spicy chicken wings, tomato sauce, peas, mushrooms, and parmesan cheese to chinese beef sticks, mozzarella, sour cream, ricotta, buffalo sauce (with or without bleu cheese), spinach dip, along with most every flavor potato chip ever made, and I'm not gonna even start with his obsession with Doritos....

What amuses me is that he can eat all that crap with no problem, but he will vomit up his "nutritionally balanced sensitive stomach formula dry food". :o/

B4 I turn in, I'll say to tigerose that I tried to ring her up this wkend when we were Up Yonder not far from where she lives. The one phone # that acted as if it might work had been disconnected. That figures --. Not for anything specific, just on General Principles which may be close kin to Major Malfunction. Also turns out I was supposed to call one of my Buckeye Belles allies re something else, & hadn't her phone # at all. She did e me while we were up there, so now I got both. Also related some houseyhold issues I hadn't known about. Hmmm.

Hi everbuddy. Happy Caturday!! We had a super busy weekend. The NRA convention was in St Louis this weekend and we spent 2 whole days there looking at lots of fun toys.

maynerdkitty - Happy Birfday! We hope you had a great day!

DoomsDayAardvark - so sorry to hear about Archie. Give him some scritches for us. ((hugs)) to you and your parents.

St Louis Boxer rescue, where we got Butter and Dusty, had a meet & greet today. After we left the convention this afternoon, we stopped at the house, grabbed the dogs, and went to the meet & greet so Butter could see Cindy. Cindy runs Boxer Rescue and was Butter's foster mom before we adopted her 7 1/2 years ago. Butter really loves seeing Cindy. Anyway, they had some bunny ears there and I tried them on Butter. She didn't appreciate it but I was able to snap a picture...

Hell, I have had cats that could open cabinets, doors, windows and figure out other things that would seemingly be inconceivable without having thumbs...but then again there is Dragon... who is smart as a whip when it comes to certain things, but can also be dumb as a post (like when he falls off the couch when he stretches). Sounds sorta like being, well... human. :o) We all have our talents and drawbacks, after all.

There really is a wide spectrum of smart-ness. I've had cats that didn't know how to come in out of the rain, and others (mainly the offspring of one mom-cat I named "Please-Jump-My-Bones Kitty") that were scary smart.

Then, too, consider how easily they can train *us*.
