You should always embrace the possibility of being beaten senseless rather than the certainty of being considered a "racist", which is much worse. Just ask George Zimmerman.

"We need to do some soul-searching. It's the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business. When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government, the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous."

- Clarence Dupnik, the Democrat sheriff of Pima County, after the Gabrielle Giffords shooting.

Funny, i haven't seen articles like this (new window) written in the past two months. Surely that means there hasn't been any virtriolic rhetoric spouted recently.

It's no more insane than imputing the killing of a black teenager to some kind of mysterious miasma called "racism" which is supposed to infect all white people -- even when the shooter isn't white. But guess which kind of insanity is embraced by the political, media, and academic establishment in every country in the Western world?

After the Arizona shooting, there were lamentations after lamentations on the harsh political rhetoric coming from the right in the media. They obviously caused the Gabby Giffords shooting. Sarah Palin had crosshairs. Obama condemns it. Barney Frank tries to censor talk radio.

Now, when there is actually vitriolic political rhetoric coming from the left, the media loves it. The media tries to fuel it. Nobody condemns it. Dupnik says "When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol" and here is Mike Tyson coming along and proving Dupnik's point. Tyson wants Zimmerman shot. Of course vitriolic rehtoric is OK if it comes from the left.

Agree that it is a great movie. The going nuts wasn't just due to fame and fortune. It was from growing up with thugs, no father, mother died when he was young, then after his boxing coach who was the only positive person in his life died, Don King took him under his wing while he was still pretty much a kid (19 or so). No wonder he went batshiat crazy. He mellowed out quite a lot in recent years. I'm actually quite surprised by his comment on shooting Zimmerman.

Hmmm, when a black guy, lets call him OS Jimpson, murdered two white people and ran from the cops the black community rioted in the streets celebrating he got off. The black community wants justice? Bullllllshiat they do. They want to play the race card every chance they get so long as it's beneficial for them

How disappointing. I thought, surely, Mike Tyson could be counted on to wait for all of the facts and investigation results to be presented during a legal trial before deciding his opinion on what may or may not have happened.

You sound like a persecuted white male and by that I mean someone with an idiotically unfounded persecution complex that he uses to mask his real fear, that all those "others", those people who "aren't like me", will infringe on the longstanding dominance of your own group. Living in a constant state of fear, paranoia, and indignation must suck.

No, it is more insane. Zimmerman determined that Martin was "up to no good." What was Martin actually doing? Walking back to his future stepmother's house with Skittles and a drink. Does that strike you as suspicious behavior to you? Or would there have to be something more? He also had a history of calling in "suspicious behavior" to the police. The suspicious behavior was almost always black kids being in the neighborhood.

I don't think it's completely unreasonable to conclude that Zimmerman found Martin suspicious because he was a black kid.

It is, however, categorically absurd to take an extreme statement by a lunatic felon and attribute his opinion to every member of his racial classification.

You should really just embrace the possibility of chasing down people in the dark who don't know who you are, and why you started chasing them in the first place, because it's Florida, and eventually they are going to get sick of running away and turn around to Stand Their Ground.

It was his girlfriend's gun. Still. don't you have to "possess" a gun to fire it? I guess if you are white the police will overlook it. Racism.

Look. I'm a defense lawyer. I'm big on the presumption of innocence and the rule of law.

But I can't get outraged here.

Somebody went to an outrageous figure with a history of doing and saying outrageous things, and they were rewarded with an outrageous quote, and now it's being waved about like a bloody shirt. I'd assert it's being done largely to drive the Zimmerman-story-of-the-day narrative AND the blacks-sure-are-uncivilized narrative.

It's wankery.

Because they wrote that stupid law with nothing but giant holes in it. We REALLY need to have some kind of minimum requirement for being a legislator. I know that our whole political system is based on the 'everyman' getting a chance to be a part of the process, but maybe we need to modify the system so they get an extra year at the beginning of their term(God help me, I almost typed 'sentence'... LOL), where they touch no legislation, and instead learn HOW to crsft laws that don't have a bunch of ridiculously ambiguous wording in them.
