ytterbium: Phoenix is another team I don't know well, defense is smothery.

I like PHX because they have no illusions about who they are. They play a great team-defense system. They get in lanes, block a lot of shots, don't give up rebounds, and remain composed. On the offensive side, they take what they can get. They chip and chase, make chances off of hustle, and outwork the opposition. They got moxie. And it's hard not to respect Doan. He's kind of the consummate professional and has been incredibly loyal to the franchise.

And now, without Jovanovski, they're 37.25% less dickish than they were last season.

caira: netweavr: caira: netweavr: I've been at a dance recital, what'd I miss?

Three and a half hours' buildup to bonus hockey in the 'Yotes-Hawks game

IOW, nothing important in comparison . . .

Just read the box-score, holy hell SJ won?!?

What with all the (justified) talk about how awesome Halák and Elliot are, we all forgot about Antti Niemi . . .

Niemi is a different type of goalie. He relies a lot on d-men clearing out rebounds after they bounce randomly off his head and shoulders. It's really strange if you watch him closely. He's like a ninja who can't catch.

Smell the Glove: soopey: Crawford just stoned the Nordiques.

That's the second Nordiques reference I've seen now. What's the deal?

Well, the Jets already got resurrected. The Nordiques are next on the list to be revived since the Whale still can't get an arena.

hulk hogan meat shoes: Darren "Go fast and do nothing" Helm? I can't count the number of times his speed leads to a breakaway and he harmlessly puts the puck into the pillows. Dude has no hands.

Are you arguing that because he doesn't finish, he brings nothing to the table? Did you see the three monster hits he threw last night before the fluke injury? Do you not see how often he kills of penalties almost single handedly? Do you not see how he wears down the opposition on the forecheck? How he's second only to Datsyuk in stripping the puck in the neutral zone? Helm works his ass off every night he's in the line-up. I can't ask anything more from a guy on my favorite team.

On the other hand, there are guys like Hudler who is a defensive liability, who rarely gets his hands dirty, who takes shifts/nights off whenever he feels like it, who coughs up the puck at nearly every turn, who makes horrendous decisions both with and without the puck, AND IS ALWAYS FARKING OFFSIDES!

In the cap era, you can't have a roster full of Datsyuks, as much as you might like. You have to have role players, and Helm is a great one. It ain't his job to score. It's his job to wreak havoc with the opposition, and he does a hell of a job and at an affordable price. Drives me up the wall that because he's not a goal scorer he's viewed as useless. Farking ridiculous.

Don't forget Tim Thomas. He qualifies for the douche-off for his White House stunt.

idesofmarch: Why is it the Bruins fans post more images than everyone else? Compensate much? :-P

Words are a little complex for some people. Like the kind of people who think pictures of Andrew Ference flipping the bird or Brad Marchand sucker punching one of the Sedins are the pinnacle of wicked awesomeness.

No suspension, $2500 fine for Weber's attempt to injure on Zetterberg. Which I predicted in the thread last night. Guess I got something right this post season.

Best watch out, Crosby...it's open season on star players after the horn has sounded.
