imontheinternet: How the hell do you win a primary with staffers that can't bullshiat their way through a simple question like that?

Drop some platitudes about equality, but criticize something about the bill immediately after, like the language, the effectiveness, the lack of "meaningful debate" on the issue, etc. If pushed for a solid position, say you're pressed for time and need to move on.

You'd think Rmoney's people would have the 5 Ds down by now.

Eh, it doesn't even matter. Christians won't vote for him; it'll be like the religious version of the Bradley effect. He probably already knows he's dead in the water.

Lolwut?

Ask random person on the street what is in Obamacare. Without going for "socialism", the only way to bring it up and really attack on it is based on the actual points, and the public just isn't interested in it anymore. The Supreme Court changes that a bit, but at the beginning of primary season, there would have been no way to anticipate how things were going to go.

I think you're massively underestimating the impact the Supreme Court ruling will have on the race, particularly if it goes against Obamacare.

blackminded: Sir Vanderhoot: "Of course Mr. Romney supports women's rights to equal compensation for the hard work that they do. Unfortunately, though, a good idea does not always make a good law, and many excellent ideals have been twisted into poorly thought-out laws in the past. I haven't looked at the wording on this particular bill, so I don't think I could say if it should be passed as law. The devil is often in the details, and I'm not one to throw my weight behind something I don't fully know the consequences of."

Don't worry, I'm sure Romney will be back on top tomorrow after he tells everyone how he made sure his maids received the same pay as all his male servants. Well, except for the one woman who had the nerve to buy camembert instead of brie at the market. But everyone can understand that was an issue with job performance, right?

Aarontology: If anything, that 92% statistic makes it sound like private industry hates women almost as much as the GOP.

Except it pretty much wasn't private industry. Cash strapped local and state governments have been laying off teachers and other public service positions. Large portions of these positions are held by women, thus their numbers of job losses (in the tail end of the recession) would be higher.

FTA: Another obvious follow-up question, "Does Romney support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which makes it easier for women to sue over pay discrimination and was Obama's first signed law?" generated only a long, awkward pause before an aide finally responded: "We'll get back to you on that."

Oh, FFS!

It's called walking the walk and not just spewing some lame-assed "Oh, Noes! Obama's economy hates teh wimmenz" derp.

The Dems have a solid legislative record of looking out for women's rights.

The GOP have a clear legislative record of denying women equality and making it harder and harder for women to access what the rest of the civilized world considers basic health services.

Anyone remember what Romney's glib response was to Rush's 3 day slander-fest?

"I'll just say this, which is, it's not the language I would have used. I'm focusing on the issues I think are significant in the country today, and that's why I'm here talking about jobs and Ohio, (popz-abc_link)

Overzealous language?

And now Romney is gonna try selling himself to American women as better for them than Obama?

Oh, I think the ruling will have an impact. I just don't think a year ago when people were deciding to run that it was enough of a sure thing for any major GOP folks to enter the ring. The SC didn't decide to even hear the case until November, and there's no guarantee how Kennedy will vote (I think the other 8 votes are clear). Those two decisions had (and have) to go exactly right for the GOP candidate to get a significant boost, and last year, I think that seemed like too much of a long shot against a strong incumbent when it was safer to wait four years.

MithrandirBooga: It's clearly working. This morning my facebook exploded with a half dozen people screaming about how the "Democrat war on women" is evil and must be stopped. People whom have never uttered this phrase before are suddenly acting like it was well-known and has been ongoing for years.

I tell you, I am duly impressed with the efficiency that the Republicans are able to roll out their marching orders and have people believe in utter nonsense. It takes mere hours, and people already believe that there's always been a Democratic war on women, and that 99% of all layoffs were women.

It's not mere hours, at some point last weekend Fox News had a "Democratic War On Women" graphic in the bottom right portion of their news screen. (I don't watch it, it was on one of the TVs at the gym.) That same spot has also been occupied by "The New Black Panthers", "Obama Out Of Touch", and other "special" graphics. So, it's not "hours" but it's the news cycle for sure.

Funny, I don't remember Ron Paul dropping out. Oh, that's right, the GOP counted him out by default.
Too bad, since he was the only candidate that had more than a snowball's chance in hell of defeating Obama. I guess "we'd rather lose than have principles" is the only principle they'll stick to.

You know who else "waged war on women" by voting for the Ledbetter Act? Five Republican senators - Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Texas, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Four of the five Republicans who voted for the Act were women! Guess they want to render women unemployable, too, huh?

It's going to be awesome when Romney comes around to supporting the Ledbatter act, any second now.

It's like watching Wile E. Coyote campaign. The Roadrunner never does anything substantive against the Coyote, and often doesn't even know he's been attacked. Meanwhile, the Coyote can get maimed just setting up the overly elaborate equipment he wants to use.

It's entirely possible that this isn't a harbinger of the future, and Romney will clean house in his campaign headquarters and start issuing actual statements of policy, but at this moment it seems equally likely that we're about to see an entire campaign season of a major party candidate tripping over rocks, falling off cliffs, and, when he can get the ammo, shooting himself in the foot - and his followers obediently insisting that every misstep is an Obama trap.

See, I understand that Paulbots are terrible at math, but this one is simple comparison of numbers. Mitt Romney has 600+ delegates right now. Ron Paul has, like, 10. 600 is a much bigger number than 10. And the people who voted for a socially repressed theocrat are not going to throw in their lot with a pseudo-libertarian who has cornered the college stoner vote.

But I saw a video showing that like 5,000 people showed up to see Paul speak so he has to be the most popular candidate!
