I'm betting the student acted like a proto douche who acted like a ass and got what he deserved. Its typical behavior for a citizen of crime bluff.

FTA:

Superintendent Jerry Payne confirmed a school resource officer did spray and said he did it to force students inside classrooms. Payne said the students took too long to get to class, so the officer pointed the spray toward the ground, not at students.

Oh. The junior high school students were taking too long getting to class. And after all, he didn't actually point it at the students. He merely pointed it at the ground. Clearly, this was a perfectly reasonable response and was totally justified then. Pepper spray as motivational tool. How... resourceful.

As a teacher at middle schools, there's only three times I can think of where pepper spray would have been appropriate, and two of them were off school grounds when I was in middle school myself being attacked by a dog and three high schoolers respectively. The third time was when one kid went totally psychotic and assaulted the principal in the baseball diamond.

If the students don't wanna go to class? Flunk 'em, give 'em detention, or kick 'em out for the day. To use pepper spray indoors? Insanity. Hang this guy out to dry.

Lazy kids....in my day we didn't get essential food products unless we went to the cafeteria.

Now they are getting served to them in the hallway?

Can't we just pepper spray all middle school kids every school day as part of the public school routine? I know I'd feel better about the $10k/child/year I'm spending on those retards if we did that.

You find me a middle school where the kids don't loiter and I'll call the police because some terrorists must have weapons trained on them and they know it.

Seriously, one in ten teenage boys is not gonna go to class on time out of principle and the other 9 think he's cool and copy him when they can. It's how boys work. As a teacher, you'd know this and not even really care.

What it sounds like is you got some rent-a-cop jock with more testosterone than brain trying to puzzle out teenage logic and getting angry when he couldn't. I think pepper spraying a hallway to get soldiers and cops in training up and outta there is a fine idea, and that's probably where this jackhole got it.

But middle school isn't boot camp or police academy. These kids aren't going to be shot at anytime soon and expected to deal with it. They're just kids. Totally insane response to unleash a chemical spray.

I dunno, middle school kids could use a shot of pepper spray six or eight times a day just to keep the hormones down.

in a more serious vein, WHY would anyone have pepper spray in a MIDDLE SCHOOL? Unless you work for the Youth Authority and it's part of your regular uniform.

You're trolling, but just to get it out of the way; I can't think of a single situation where using OC against a hall full of tardy middle school kids would be justified on the Force Continuum. Even from the scant facts available, it sounds like a firing at a bare minimum is warranted. More than a few criminal charges also come to mind.

I can't believe people feel the need to have police in our middle schools in the first place.

Have you ever read the crime stats for public schools? I mean, I don't personally feel that cops are the answer, but that is the typical public response to crime.

Some middle schools need it. Ever seen the numbers of guns found in Baltimore County middle schools? It's actually worse than the high schools.

not only was he stupid enough to think using pepper spray was appropriate under the circumstances, he was also so poorly trained that he didn't realize how pepper spray even works. spray that stuff in an enclosed space and everyone in the area will have breathing problems. apparently he thought that if he didn't actually spray it in anyone's eyes then it would not affect them. how did someone that stupid even get hired in the first place?

Someone smarter than that wouldn't have been a cop and gotten assigned to a middle school. This guy's the bottom of the bottom of the barrel. Once they were done scraping to find regular cops, they found this guy underneath that scum.
