Joe Scarborough: Nobody thinks Romney is going to win. Can we just say this for everybody at home? I have yet to meet a person in the Republican establishment that thinks Mitt Romney is going to win the general election this year. They won't say it on TV because they've got to go on TV, and they don't want people writing them nasty emails. I obviously don't care. I have yet to meet anybody in the Republican establishment that worked for George W. Bush, that works in the Republican Congress, that worked for Ronald Reagan that thinks Mitt Romney is going to win the general election.

Mark Halperin: I don't totally agree with that, but even if you think Mitt Romney is going to lose. Still, in 2016 there are so many strong candidates out there.

Scarborough: Who?

Halperin: Mitch Daniels, Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie, Paul Ryan, Jeb Bush.

Anything can happen, but the contrast between Mitt and Obama is stark on the campaign trail. Obama is still "Yes we can" while Mitt is more "Everything is ruined forever."

The mens' personalities are polar opposites as well. Obama's outgoing while Mitt is perfunctory and stiff.

Issues matter, but not if you can't market it in a package people want to buy.

I'm waiting for a picture of Romney in full equestrian gear atop a Missouri Fox trotter. That shiat will seal the deal for Obama.

Give them some time.

There's a lot of stuff to cram down the Memory Hole, but soon we'll be hearing how Mitt Romney has always been the Ultimate Conservative Hero and inundated with bleary photoshops of Reagan and Lincoln doing a high-five over Romney as Jesus hammers a "ROMNEY 2012" sign into the front lawn of His house while Bill Maher and Rachel Maddow run from the scene crying tears of fire and have to listen to the Lee Greenwood/Hank Williams Jr. magnum opus "Who loves Jesus and America? Me and Romney!"

I care even less now about what Joe Scarborough has to say about the race than I did when this story was greenlit last week.

A Missouri Fox Trotter?

Doesn't that normally involve a morbidly obese redheaded woman who's eaten a case of Chalupas, a roll of aluminum foil, three cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew, a gallon of Wesson Oil and a vintage Neil Lomax jersey?

Oh, you mean the HORSE. Sorry.

Precisely. The GOP can man up and pick someone like Huntsman, or they can face another likely loss. The Democrats simply have a better bench right now.

Mitch Daniels at least has some gravitas. The others are plainly ludicrous. Mike Beebe could run as a Republican and kick all their asses. He's more conservative than some of them, too.

No one votes for VPs. Mitt is just going to follow the old adage, "do no harm." Which means picking someone more boring than he is.

What he needs is a VP candidate that will be a real game changer, shake things up, and offer Republicans all the things they don't see in Romney.

Because that worked out so well for them last time.

Halperin: Mitch Daniels, Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie, Paul Ryan, Jeb Bush.

Daniels: More vanilla than vanilla, sounds monotone all the time. Governed as a slightly moderate guy in a red state

Jindal: Kenny the intern, hates volcanoes

Christie: R governor of a blue state = de facto RINO

Ryan: Architect of countless failed budget plans, wants to dismantle MEdicare

Bush: No explanation needed

It will be interesting to see if the base will back any of those folks in 2016. If Romney loses, the party takeaway could be something like: "Clearly we lost because we were not Derpy enough. We need to lose all these moderate RINOs and go full Palin!"

Ha. Good one. I guess Mittens will think of that at VP-choosing time.

I'm totally disappointed they're not going to have a brokered convention. I was so looking forward to seeing Saint Sarah, wreathed in a celestial glow, stepping forward to fill the void when the first ballot failed. Maybe next time, Sarah.

Well, you farktards, R'Money is the best bet you got. You COULD'VE had Huntsman, but (I have to admit), he didn't help matters with his slip-shod way of running his campaign. Can't even get his ballot papers submitted in time in Arizona? WTH

He might if he'd actually take positions. And not just pander to whoever is in the room at the time.

If he'd stand up against the tide of the Crazy Train on occasion he might win some Moderates, who he will need if he wants to win. Unless something extraordinary happens, he's in a worse position than Bob Dole was during Clinton's term--Bob Dole at least had the respect of the party.

Romney? He is the author of a program that he now tries to vilify, and is far out of touch with not just the Republican base, but most of the nation. And his attempts to try to connect have fallen on deaf ears. FDR made no bones about where he came from. Nor did Kennedy. But they had actual ideas, and some charisma to boot. Romney's attempts to try to distance himself from that background have only made him look even more ridiculous.

Hill Dawg vs Bobby Jindal in '16 would be awesome. It would be the biggest electoral landslide in history, and the first woman president. I'm sure she would spank anyone on that list, but Bobby would be the most entertaining.

I don't know if you noticed this or not, but the GOP doesn't exactly run on "ideas."

I don't rule them out just because there is no end to the misinformation they're willing to spread to win elections.

How do you sell a candidate who has less charisma than John Kerry?
