This is one of the first games of the year...

msupf: Yeah, but it wasn't hard enough to count as a slash, and he didn't impede the player so no hooking... It's a really weak call for something that gives a 5 on 3 in the playoffs (I've watched refs ignore blood-drawing high sticking because it would have resulted in a 5 on 3 in the 3rd period in a Montreal series)

Don't know if it's been discussed in the thread, but the Fox Sports Detroit theory is that they're calling everything - including made-up penalties - because Bettman is at the game.

Detroit fans complaining about refereeing, now it's officially the NHL Playoffs.

Donnchadha: AdmirableSnackbar: Penguins fan whining about refs...wow.

You didn't see the offsides on the Flyers goal? Dude was a good two feet offsides. It wasn't even close.

I saw it, but let's not act as if the Penguins haven't benefited from favorable calls by the officials in recent years. It's OK for it to go the other way once in a while.

Hey, the Emmerton and Abdelkader penalties were legitimately bad calls.

I'd be happy to biatch about the refs being unfair to the Predators, but the two penalties they've had so far were both deserved.

Oh yeah, even got the Mickey gem of "no offense mr. Bettman, but please leave the building"

Let's be fair, I despise both teams. Whoever wins I will root against in the next round. So I'm being very impartial when I say WTF on that goal.

The refs missed an icing that led to the Pens' third goal, so it all evens out.

Submitted too early.

We're up to six penalties in the game so far, and these are the two least-penalized teams in the league. That's not right.

If some of those calls occurred in any game I'd be wondering wtf the refs were doing. Even if they were against (can't believe I'm gonna say it) Pittsburgh

Nothing much, unfortunately. Looks like he got a skate to the right wrist and he left the ice immediately to go get it taken care of, but he was also back on the bench not too long after it happened.

Whatever it was, I'm hoping it wasn't serious.

And Laviolette is starting the ass hat trickery.

Ken Kal saying it looked like Radulov's skate might have cut his wrist.

At least Detroit limits it to the playoffs - you Vancouver fans could learn a thing or two from them.

4NSpy, you've been here long enough to know that I'm rational most of the time. The Wings fark up, I admit it. But the refs are more than a little overzealous so far tonight.

Hopefully. He was a man on fire in the 1st and if the cavalcade of penalties continues, we'll need him on the PK.

OH TK...only Malkin can pull off the Spin-A-Rooney

Jagr is 40? Damn... I remember when he was a rookie. I may even still have the Wheaties box the he and the Pens were on after the won the cup his rookie year.

1.) He's awesome.
2.) He may have caught a skate and cut his wrist, but it appears he'll return?

They aren't saying much.

His mullet from that season still haunts my nightmares.

Though some of the moves he pulled in the offensive zone on that cup run...wow. My old man HATED the guy. He would keep yelling for guys to hit him, but they could never line the shifty bastard up.

Helm out? Detroit's screwed.

He went to the hospital for tests(helm did).

Nice 2 on 1. Too bad the shot too late.

Helm to the hospital... Likely worried about tendon damage at this point.

Frak!

Hope Helm is okay.

Jesus, another farking penalty. Let 'em play!!!

This pains me to say out loud, but I'm kinda digging the music I can hear from Nashville's Arena. It certainly sounds like everyone there is enjoying the party - can't see the stands over the radio to see how many.

I don't even care that my team is getting on the powerplay, I want them to stop sending people to the box.
