It's hard to run a successful gun shop in a state where there are more gun shops than gas stations (and each gas station has a gun shop). A customer is a customer. Why are the feds punishing the job creators again?

Imagine how furious the pro-Obama forces would be here on Fark if it was Obama that praised a business and was raided by the feds for hiring illegal aliens.

This pro-Obama "force" read the headline and thought it was stupid.
Politicians often do these type things, which are orchestrated by the office. Perry is an idiot, but I don't stoop to conservative guilt by association tactics (see Rev. Wright).

Perry issues award and commends a gun shop in Texas with the word Eagle in their name for 76 years in business and 2 years later the shop gets popped for selling guns to smugglers?

Rather than worry about the optics for Perry, who (let's face it) is a pretty boy figurehead Governor who's political importance is waning I'm more concerned with what this says about inroads Mexican drug cartels are having in the state.

But then I'm kinda weird.

I doubt Rick Perry will care, or even notice.

You're just targeting Perry because he was brave enough to admit ON VIDEO that he was a Christian. In America!.
Few men are brave enough to do this.

The article was interesting. The award went to the shop when the old man was running it. He died and his shiathead kids took over and started (allegedly) selling to the cartels. They basically pissed away their family legacy for some fast and dirty money.

Perry is a moran, but he's a harmless turd who doesn't get anything done, which is why he gets reelected in Texas. We've got a good thing going here- no state taxes, low unemployment compared to the rest of the nation, mostly insulated from the housing bubble. Education sucks, but that's being addressed by the state legislature.

/I mean, he got Cs from the state's farm college

Is this one of the shop that sold guns to people that failed a background check, but did so only after the BATF told them to, as part of the gun-walker/fast and furious thing?

Just asking.

2012-04-11 07:41:43 AM
Something tells me it was a setup of some sorts, kinda like the Hutaree incident, and others, like F&F. Can never trust federal indictments, due to the number of entrapment and set-up scenarios the Feds do all the time.

2012-04-11 07:42:06 AM
I don't really understand the people in this thread who are getting angry. If anyone is using this as "dirt" on Perry, they're being stupid. He praised a shop without knowing anything illegal was going on. (There are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike Perry anyway.) The thing is, I haven't seen anyone saying Perry was in the wrong in this case, can anyone point me to where that was insinuated?

What if 6 turned out to be 9?

Perry's an asshole, but he's Texas' problem. Couldn't care less what that moron does.

If the gun shop was doing something illegal, shut their asses down and prosecute the owners.

It may be called "Texas Agricultural and Mechanical," but calling it "the state's farm college" is a bit... dishonest.

It's a highly-ranked national university, and it's pretty big - about 45,000 students.

The town in question is a border town. So as far as "inroads" go, this isn't the best indicator.
