Wow, well they will probably be playing for a national title next year, so it's good that distraction is gone. I'm sure it won't be hard to find a coach willing to take over a team this good.

puffy999: So the SEC has one respectable athletic department (Vanderbilt)

Not even that. They eliminated their athletic department a couple of years ago and merged their varsity teams in with the Department of Student Life or some such.

Wow... enjoy your "feel good" firin'. You just cost the university millions more than keeping a horn dog head coach. Oh... and welcome to mediocrity in the SEC for years to come! Dumbasses.

jdcgonzalez: I was surprised he was fired until I heard about him hiring her while they were seeing each other. That is a big time no-no in state government. The Department of Finance and Administration will rip your balls out and feed them to you if you screw around with the hiring process. Not being truthful about it to his boss and everyone else was just icing on the cake.

I initially did not want to see him fired, until all of the information came to light. He did not give them a choice. Bye now.

Now, if only we could hire Mike Leach.

/WPS

Funny story, I got my undergrad degree at Wazzu, and am getting my M.A. this spring from Arkansas.

So... much as I would find it interesting if Leach bailed on the Cougs to come to Arkansas... YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM! HE'S OURS!

*cough*

You know how I know you didn't read into any details?

IF and ONLY IF there was nothing untoward with the department's hiring of his mistress and he was truthful in every other matter, could we have had the debate between on the field success and morality. Petrino didn't even give us the luxury of the debate - mucking around with getting her hired basically meant the University had no choice but to fire him. Maybe if he had nothing to do with it (or other untoward crap) we could have talked about that discussion. But there was no need.

Why do Arkansas fans think this? Its not like they got any better on offense and they got curb stomped by any decent team they played, they looked better since the SEC was down last year but Arkansas will probably be doing good to finish 8-4 next year.

You would think that the Razorback supporters believe the measure of a university's ability to educate is directly related to the football team's success ....oh wait, this school is in the south.

I tend to think all college football and major basketball coaches are scumbags until proven otherwise. It takes a special type of sociopath to sit in the living rooms of 17 and 18 year olds and their families, many mired in poverty for endless generations, and try convince them to give you their golden ticket knowing at the drop of a hat you'll leave them when you get a better offer elsewhere or tell them to transfer out to clear room for another scholie if they don't meet expectations.

What the hell are you talking about? Arkansas has a great experienced quarterback in Tyler Wilson, fantastic running back in Knile Davis, a pretty damned good receiving core, and an O-line that isn't made of freshmen anymore. Moreover, we've got Paul Haynes as the new D. Coordinator (which is a major improvement in my book).

I'm pretty convinced Arkansas would have been a lot better last year if the O-line had more experience and the running game was something to speak of.

In essence, I think that if Petrino didn't do all this stuff, Arkansas was not out of the question as a NC team.

you are a puppet: I don't usually get too involved in sports, it's always embarrassing to me to watch the fans that get really caught up in it. I don't understand how they can be that emotional over something that really has nothing to do with their lives. That being said, one day I will straight up kill Bobby Petrino. And I will get away with it, because it was in Florida, and he was coming right at me.

There are all sorts of sources that can help you grasp the concept "sense of community." You obviously have an Internet connection, so you can easily pop on over to Google to start.

I think you're thinking of the Bulldogs. Georgia didn't beat anyone ranked under 20 last year. Hogs beat #8, 9, 14, and 15. Only losses were on the road against #1 and #3.

The SEC East was down last year (look no further than UGA making the SECCG), but the West sent 2 teams to the BCS Title game and one to the Cotton. How is that "down"?

It was a job within the football program, so I doubt the Director of Swimming Stuff had anything to do with it. Oh, and Bobby gave her $20K in cash after the hire.

She is extremely organized and has a professional approach, which should translate well into our program and recruiting as we continue to place an emphasis on this area."

As much as I am enjoying an SEC West rival to LSU possibly getting a down year, I can understand if there is a bit of an internalc conflict in UA fans. You drop someone who is looking like the best coaching hire the university has ever had. Your season could be toast now and who knows if the program will survive as a top 10 program after this. On the other the university shows that it isn't all about football and is willing to fire the highest paid state employee for trying to abuse the system.

I'd imagine this probably will be taken harder by people that never attended the university and were only fans of the football program than people that have attended or are attending UA.

No they didn't you keep spouting that lie and its just not true, at the end of the year they beat two ranked teams by the end of the season after the others were exposed as shiatty and kansas state was only ranked because they are in the big 12. SC is not that good a bad UGA team put up 40 and that was when UGAs offense really sucked and defense was two games into a new scheme. I still see Arkansas finishing 3rd at best because the two highest ranked teams they played beat them like rented mules.

So you talk about the final rankings of the teams Arkansas played, but conveniently mention that UGA was playing better at some parts of the year than others. Either a football team can progress or regress during the season or not. And Arkansas beating those teams contributed to their drop in the standings. That's why a team's SOS is calculated based on the rankings at the time the two teams played. You can't change the rules to make a point.

let's not play this game. pretty much every school (with some exceptions such as; northwestern, vandy, duke, etc) in a bcs conference have athletic departments that exist only to produce winning teams and bring in more money. that's what big-time college football and basketball are about. they are all dirty. they all don't give a fark about the athletes. it's not a conference thing. it's just what it is.
