Wow, that was amazing, I figured they would suspend him for a while but they blew it all up.

Who the hell wants that job now? Its not like they can get anyone better, maybe they can hire tuberville away from TT?!?

Man, this just sucks. Petrino had us going in the right direction.

But I think the Arkansas did the right thing. Petrino just ... had to go.

So, looking to the future ...

Sean Payton? I mean, he isn't doing anything!

2012-04-10 09:21:38 PM
Being a guy from ASU, I'm the harshest critic of the Hogs you'll meet. However, Jeff Long is a hell of an AD. It took major stones to do the right thing here. Assuming the wallets don't can him, it'll turn out better for the university in the long run.

Big Lead is saying that Ark wanted to keep Petrino "with penalties", but Petrino said no and they fired him. Have to wonder what those penalties might have been that he wasn't willing to accept them; I would have thought anything short of public flogging and he'd have just been glad to keep that job.

p the boiler: Actually impressed with arkansas right now.

Yeah, me too a little bit, they did hire the scumbag with a known track record of being a scumbag though.

I think they were thinking that there was no other way to fix the situation, if they fire the girl(his wife would not want her to stay there) she would have sued so they had to fire him and the way they are talking is that with all his deception this gives them just cause which means they believe they owe him nothing.

2012-04-10 09:24:57 PM
So I've seen a few people say they feel bad for the girl's soon-to-be ex-fiance, and in the short term that's probably true, but that motorcycle accident is the best thing that could have happened to him. He probably never would have found out what a slut he could have ended up with, now he gets a clean getaway before the wedding.

And Petrino's a scumbag, blah blah blah, who didn't know that already?

2012-04-10 09:26:55 PM
Yanks_RSJ: who didn't know that already?

The next school to hire him?

Well, I mean, they probably just don't care.

It doesnt surprise me petrino thinks hes above penalties, hes the biggest douchebag in college football today, even with lane kiffin still coaching.....

I think it was the 20k payment that pretty much sealed it for him. They probably would have ignored the affair and lying and let him come back, but the whole way his mistress was hired and that payment just raises all sorts of legal questions.

So wait, the didn't fire the slut?

2012-04-10 09:32:19 PM
Well, he might as well retire, because I don't think any college or NFL will ever look at him again after this incident. Maybe he'll get a job at a high school or something.

Oh, and good luck to the Razorbacks. Firing him was the right thing to do.

True story - he lied so many times to Tom Jurich at Louisville, when he finally went to him to let him know he was taking the Falcons job, Jurich threw a chair at him and chased him out of the athletic complex. Bobby's a hell of a coach, but a pathetic liar. Sorry you guys had to find out the hard way. Trust me, I know how you feel.

We'll call it a lesson learned. Glad our Athletic Director handled himself so well, I was beginning to wonder how this would all play out and I think it was for the best.

Hog fan here.

I am very disapointed. Our program was heading to great things on the field. I could see it.

However, I don't want it if it means selling out my integrity.

I can only hope we pick up a stable leader going forward. How much of a bad position are we in ? Arkansas is a top 5 finisher last season, will be top 10 in pre-season polls, has a good recruiting class, is in the SEC...is in the WEST of the SEC and finished 5th!! What are the intitial gut feelings here in the thread?

I think you need to look at where the program ranks in terms of prestige for coaches, I dont think its that high and I really think petrino would have left arkansas in a few years anyway for a bigger name program, but we will never know that now.

And just because the west is stronger right now dont think it will stay that way, remember a few short years ago the east was a lot stronger than the west.

Yeah, it's true. I have family who tend to know things that go on in the athletic dept. Jurich is well known for running a very tight ship and making brilliant coaching hires (minus some asshole who's now in Baton Rouge). But he doesn't abide insubordination. Petrino lied about Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, the Raiders and the Falcons. He signed a massive contract right before he bolted Louisville. Guess Jurich had had enough by then, and I don't blame him.

My point is that the SEC is a desirable league for a coach and that Arkansas is a strong pick at the moment. The right coach could keep the program at a high level....hell, if the new coach concentrates on football instead of pussy like the last two, it may not matter who the coach is to stay competitive.

Dude there is no integrity in college football and especially none in the SEC.

Posting my thoughts from the previous Petrino-related thread:

Gotta give AD Jeff Long credit. He's basically saying "The University is MORE than just the football program."

Also (as ESPN's Joe Schad points out) think about it: While at Louisville he went to try and get the Auburn job behind their back. Goes to the Falcons and quits on them mid-season to go back to the college ranks. Now: lied to the AD about the whole damn thing. How are you going to have this guy go to a recruit's house and convince that kid and his family that Arkansas is where he should go?

The guy's a lying sack of shiat. Screw 'im. He'll probably do a Mike Price and get a HC position at a mid-major conference in order to regain his credibility.

And I was just thinking this earlier: Had Mike Leach still been out of a job, he would've been the first guy Jeff Long called.

djmbbandie: Well, he might as well retire, because I don't think any college or NFL will ever look at him again after this incident. Maybe he'll get a job at a high school or something.

Nah, it'll be a Mike Price-esque situation. He'll land somewhere desperate enough to hire him.

Oh, and good luck to the Razorbacks. Firing him was the right thing to do.

Hey just think: Les Miles DID take LSU to the NC after Saban left so...

Well there are a few teams who are not competitive in the SEC and vandy has been a doormat for years until recently.

Yeah, I thought they were overreacting until I found out about the money.

Is it really that hard to get laid if you're a big-time college football coach? $20k and cushy job with the team is a hell of a lot to pay for some nookie. The guy could have had every whore in the state five times over for what he paid this chick, and you don't have to give whores rides home on your motorcycle.

I'm a UCLA fan = no fan of the University of Spoiled Children, so what are Kiffin's crimes against humanity? He's pretty much kept his head down and done his job since he's been at USC. They're a good bet --not a lock, a good bet-- to win the BCS this year with Barkley back, pretty impressive after the mess that douchebag Carroll couldn't wait to run away from.

Gonz: Not a chance [that Petrino is fired]. He's coming off a Cotton Bowl win, 11-2, ranked #5 in the final standings. He can screw all the skanks he'd like, his record = job security.

I gained a lot of respect for Jeff Long today. He put the school's integrity ahead of success on the football field - in a year where if Petrino had stayed, it could have theoretically led to a berth in the BCS championship game. It took major balls to do that, and I hope that that's what it takes to keep him in his job.
