Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering if one of you experts on racism could post some the "racist" things that Al Sharpton has done recently. Let's make it easy, and limit our selves to the 21st century.

In the us, the statutes concerning citizen arrest or detainment only pertain to where the citizen observes a felony.

Was zimmerman justified in pursuing martin because he observed a felony? All signs point to no. As we see here, speculation or assumption is not fact. There was no evidence save for zimmerman's bias or prejudice.

Was he legally required to stop? Maybe not, but there is evidence that martin was acting according to a core belief of vigilantism, where there is belief in the ineffectiveness of law enforcement, evidenced by his behavior and his statement on that call that "these assholes always get away." he didnt think the police were doing there job or were otherwise ineffective.

Not being legally required to stop does not magically free one from the consequences of other laws, like manslaughter.

ChuDogg: spongeboob: Why yes I am going to believe a report as totally accurate that has the age of Zimmerman as 3 years younger than all other reports. Do you have anywhere else where John says the same thing?

27 Feb 2012

This was one of the first reports. Literally the very next morning.

You're going to say the witness was planted because the reporter rushed a few details out? Yeah, that doesn't indicate cognitive dissonance. Not at all.

No I am saying if the reporter got something as simple as the age of the shooter wrong he/she may have misquoted the witness. I am asking if you have "John" saying the same thing from another source. Unless he changed his story you should be able to have it from another source. If he continues to say that is what happened it should be reported somewhere else. Or can't you understand that?

Sarsin: ChuDogg: That's very, very, good advice.

Is it legally required?

No.

But you can't claim self defense if you go after people and are not a law enforcement officer.

The person I responded to said: Report last-known location and GTFO

Zimmerman followed to continue to report Martin's location. This is evident from the 911 call. Link (new window)

That's the conversation we were having.

Two things now that I've had time to think:

1.) Dear Old Dad Zimmerman was a judge. You think he'd tell his son that you don't tell the man anything without a lawyer present?

2.) Zimmerman's now former lawyers say they haven't spoken to him in two to three days. In that same span, the special prosecutor drops the grand jury, Zimmerman opens up his website asking for cash, and Zimmerman's possibly gone on his own in talking with the special prosecutor. Things that make you go 'hmm'.

Weaver95: Res ipsa loquitur

Your argument falls short becuase it will be difficult to prove that the harm suffered by the plantiff (in this case, death) was due to no fault of his own... not saying I agree with it, but that is a key element of Res ipsa loquitur...

You thinking that no marks on his knuckles means no punches were thrown is very off base with reality...

Millennium: Well, someone's got to defend him if he wants a lawyer. But if he thinks he can somehow get by without one, well, so much the better: it'll only make his conviction even more likely, and no defense attorneys will have to give up a piece of their souls to defend the indefensible.

I love the way a certain kind of idiot (like, say the ones in this thread) love to bring up a couple of silly things that Jackson or Sharpton did over 20 years ago to justify their own innate racism regarding the Zimmerman/Martin case.

Dude, really??? I can list numerous cases that Al and Jessie "bent" the truth or jumped the gun to benefit their own self interest, bank accounts or political capital , but that doesn't matter, because since I pointed this out I am thinly veiled racist. You and people like you are the problem with this country not the solution.

Racial debates are the most interesting type because they nearly always strike a chord in everyone. 700 comments strong about a killer/vigilante/hero dropping lawyers he never had, to defend him for a crime he hasn't been accused of inside a court of law.

So, how racist are you? And And do you define your racist belief out of the belief that the other race is more racist than you?

Damn, its got potential to be a loong hot summer.

All signs point to Zimmerman being guilty: just like the accused in the Amadou Diallo shooting and Duke lacrosse case. Why can't people wait for courts to decide whether someone is guilty before hanging them in the court of public opinion?

mooseyfate: HellRaisingHoosier: Ok, I've gone out of my to not give a fark about this, but it's popping up everywhere so I thought I would read the article ... Is this accurate?

Some kid attacks a security guard, and breaks his nose during the attack -- so this security guard shoots the kid and kills him.

If that's correct, then good. I'm glad the kid got shot.
If it's not. I still don't really care.

/pro-death

The meat of the entire controversy (which has since been hijacked utterly by racists and bigots on both sides of that shiatty fence) is that Zimmerman claimed he was "standing his ground" under the state's "Stand Your Ground" law that basically says that a law-abiding has no duty to back down from a hostile person. Unfortunately, it's since come to light that Zimmerman was infact NOT standing his ground, he was actively pursuing this kid. There are no "Pursue and Confront" laws (that have come up) in Florida, so the simple fact that he's not denying murdering this kid coupled with the fact that he was NOT standing his ground as he first admitted means that he's a murderer and should be in jail, preferably for a long time. This isn't a case of a law-abiding citizen getting screwed by the system and the media. This is a case about a law-abiding citizen getting followed and shot down on his way home from the store, for being black and wearing a hoodie, none-the-less.

If he lost sight of him, he isn't actively pursing anyone. He could be walking around the neighborhood, or walking back to his car. Last time I checked, walking back to your car is illegal, and if someone assaults you.while doing so, bang bang no more Mr Tough Guy.

There is no evidence that Zimmerman followed Martin after the officer told him that Zimmerman did not need to follow Martin.

There is no evidence he was shot for being black and wearing a hoodie. If that was the case, Martin would have been dead a lot sooner, before any assault took place.

keithgabryelski: sure, but if you don't follow the advice -- hell if you just get out of your car and follow a child around a corner -- and then get into an altercation where you shoot and kill a child walking home from the store, don't be surprised if people wonder why you aren't in jail.

1)Use of the word child clearly indicates your bias. Use "kid" if you want to describe his youth and lack of judgement, but not child. Initialy reports were incorrect, there was a 10lb difference in favor of Zimmerman, but Martin was clearly taller, stronger, faster, and more athletic.

2) As we hear from the 911 call, Zimmerman's movement was to report Martin's location. This is the only thing that can be ascertained from the call, and I see the goal post is moving over and over now, but it still remains that he is legally allowed and justified to observe and report from a distance.

Most of the people marching aren't surprised that somebody attempting to observe and report Martin's location got into altercation that he had to use self defense. They are surprised that a racist white neo-nazi wannabe cop chased, tackled, punched, beat up, and shot numerous times an innocent 12 year old boy trying to run home as he screamed for his life. I like that Fark has moved away, somewhat, from that now, but this is the picture being painted in the media.

When you report things like, where Zimmerman's location was and where the altercation occurred, and what the actual 911 call said, what witness statements said, of course that narrative all comes crashing down.

2012-04-10 10:31:34 PM
I will leave it to the courts to figure this out, but at the very least, can't we agree that Zimmerman probably wouldn't have felt tough enough to follow this 17 year without a gun? Maybe he was protecting his ass, but I have a hard time believing any of this would have happened had Zimmerman not been packing in the name of untrained neighborhood protection. I find it rather ironic how many folks on Zimmerman's side probably don't feel like there's anything wrong with a high school one on one dust-up.

False. After giving dispatch his position, dispatch told him to meet the Cops by the mailboxes. He again brushed it off, telling dispatch that they had his number and they could call him and he would let them know where he was at. Again... He wanted them to come to him.

Cause, you know, he really had a taste for a slurpee or something and didnt go looking for martin.

You mean the fact that a 17 year old kid was walking home from the store, minding his own business, committing no crime was stalked and eventually shot by a self-appointed captain of the neighborhood watch party?
Licensed to carry a firearm and a student of criminal justice, Zimmerman went door-to-door asking residents to be on the lookout, specifically referring to young black men who appeared to be outsiders, and warned that some were caught lurking, neighbors said.
