Keith Richards is 68. Rock n Roll.

Why don't you stop already! - Robert DeNiro, Raging Bull

What critics don't understand is that rock and roll is about raw unbridled sex appeal ... and 68 year old men

I live in a nursing home on the ninety-ninth floor of my block
And I sit at home looking out the window
Imagining that I still rock
Then in flies a guy whos all dressed up like a nurses ade
And says it's time for meds and asks if I made lemonade

I said, hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Don't hang around when I yell at clouds, baby.

The pacemaker is buzzing
I say, oh geez is it time?
Then a nurse says no thats not you
It's your roomate's therapy time
He says, it's three p.m., there's too much noise
Don't you people ever wanna quiet down?
I said maybe after Matlock
I need to know how that goes down.

I said, hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Don't hang around when I yell at clouds, baby

I was sick and tired, fed through a tube
And nothing seems to work down stairs
I can't control my bladder much
And I'm ruining my underwear
I laid myself out, I was so tired and I started to dream
I wake and shiat every day at 5am
Too bad I don't get out of bed till 6:15

I said, hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Don't hang around when I yell at clouds, baby.

Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud
Hey! you! get off of my cloud

I went to see them live. They've always been one of my favorites, but my friends had to prod me. "I dunno, they're old and past their prime. I guess I should see them while I can."

That was in 1982.

I saw them on that tour in Orlando, everyone said it was the last chance to see them live, ticket cost $13.50 which was a lot of money back then, opening acts were John Cougar (before he started using his real name) and Van Halen and some other guy.

2012-04-10 06:33:59 PM
This assures that if they go on tour next year there will be bathroom time while they play 3 songs no one wants to hear from the new album

2012-04-10 06:37:11 PM
I thought they were done after the steel wheelchairs tour, just go away already

This is uncharted territory so it seems untoward. Rock and Roll really started to get huge internationally with the Stones, Beatles, Who, etc, having been birthed by Bill Haley & the Comets, Chuck Berry, Gene Perkins, Elvis etc.

So...the first generation of rock and roll superstars are at retirement age and there really is no precedent for what to do at that age in that profession.

Rock and roll seems like a young man's game, but that's because the best rock and roll was made by young men all those years ago.

I think this record will be just like the last 10 Stones records. Kind of fun, nothing new, nothing noteworthy, and just an excuse to tour.

Unless they go the Van Halen route and somehow come up with something that is a shot heard 'round the world.

Willie Nelson is 78. BB King is 86. Nobody complains when they still go out on tour. Why retire when people will still pay to come see you do what you love to do?

Yeah but Willie Nelson had to give everything he had to the IRS, dude needs the money

whatever they do, it will easily be their best work since 'Exile'.

alex, i'll take "things shiatty rock critics say about anything the Stones fart out individually or collectively" for $500

I'll be the one optimist here. The touch ups they did for the Exile reissue sounded pretty good and maybe revisiting the past like that will give them a huge kick in the ass. I'll reserve judgement until I actually hear something.

It's not their fault that rock music has been completely stagnant since 1992.

It'll be a welcome departure from the endless slop by the White Stripes, the Black Keys, the Grey Pompadours, the Chartreuse Douchenozzles and the Plaid Hipster Cocksuckers.

i would pay to see keith strum the opening to any of their hits on an acoustic guitar while sitting down, and to see charlie watts play anything. couldn't judge them at churchill downs, it was raining too hard, but when they played columbus
before that with the white stripes opening they were great. came down on the small stage right in front of us and did mannish boy and love in vain. awesome! great versions that night of cant you hear me knocking, jumping jack flash. always fun to guess what they'll play when they tour: lots of stuff from exile? monkey man or live with me? sister morphine? and lets hope gimme shelter!

if you can't relate to what i'm talking about then you never loved the rolling stones, so fark off

So what they are old. They rock. Go see them. I saw Albert King when he was their age. He was great too. John Mayall is 79. He is still great. You haters must be 45, fat, and worthless.

I love Hulu. A full minute ad (well, a full minute of a black screen that tells me how bad I am for having ad-blocking on) for a 3-minute clip.

I saw Ray Charles at the Celebrity Theater here in Phoenix 3 years before he died.
Sad they said no Photo's allowed (rotating stage, round and round. Swear he powered it
himself with his crazy legs).

Awesome thing to see a legend (kind of familiar with his work).

Also the ONLY white person there. Weird.

Back in 1992 I got a shot at seeing The Dead. I wasn't a huge fan or anything but it was more along the lines of experiencing something that was a bit of a cultural touchstone.

I went and had a great time. I think I own all of 2 Dead albums, but I did get to see a great band had an amazing influence on our culture.

Past their prime? Eh, maybe. But musicians aren't like works of art hanging in a museum; they die and you can't really connect with the brilliance, even if it is diminished by their age and longer.

It's worth the trip.

There's nothing absurd about those guys still touring. I would go see all 3. If Keith was touring with the X-Pensive Winos, that would be cool. But the Rolling Stones at 68? That's just silly. Kinda like the New Kids on the Block reunion a few years back.

The Stones are Rock and Roll, and Rock and Roll will never die.

Seriously, with the end of things in plain sight, old people are going to whatever is fun for them to do as long as they possibly can. The alternative is boredom and then death.

When I know it won't bottom out the retirement fund, I'm going back on cocaine.
