At least Mitt was born in America. Obama is a Kenyan and McCain was born in Panama. So we're doing better than 2008!

People in the Republican Party have and will debate how much better Romney is than other people, but they all agree that he's a major leap forward from the current White House occupant.

What you and your fellow Republicans were saying about spending when a lighter President was in office:

Seacop: Thunderpipes: Percentage, please, crackpot liberal moonbats, do some research, those numbers sound scary, like the deficit, but they are really modest in comparison to past situations.

Such as?

Check the deficit around WW2 and compare it to today in terms of percentage of GDP. Compare the amount of spending on defense and the mentioned projects in the article during WW2 to the percentage of today.

"Record" deficit numbers and such can be misleading.

Thunderpipes: How do any of you libs honestly think we will ever bring the US debt under control? Once we hit the 20 + trillion mark in less than a decade, what then?

Where do you think the revenue could possibly come from to pay that down? Do you understand interest?

What about at the 40 trillion mark? 100 trillion? Will you raise tax rates on millionaires to 70%? That will bring in a few billion dollars in the short term. Tax businesses at 50%? That will cause massive contraction. How the hell do you intend to pay for all your free crap?

If we don't control it now, we are screwed. You can't do that by handing people free stuff and expecting them not to pay taxes. Obama's "Buffet" rule? Will get him a lot of votes. Will get the country about 4.7 billion a year. Absolutely goddamn nothing compared to our deficit. Successful people breed much more slowly. Dumb people breed like rabbits. You are a liar if you don't think that means less tax revenue, more welfare, and more Democratic voters to continue the cycle.

I'm sorry, but your class warfare fantasies and loathing of anyone who isn't rich and powerful doesn't help your "point".

Hey, maybe God told him to run for a reason.

To lose.

To prove that the ideas that he keeps touting are wrongheaded and against God's actual plan.

Jahweh's plans are inscrutable. God knew the outcome long before this moment. God knew when he ran, that he'd lose. But in the running, he'd expose a lot of bad ideas for what they were. And by not allowing Rick to win the nomination, God got his message out:

IF YOU RUN ON THIS CRAP YOU WILL LOSE!

Rick was chosen to be an example. A martyr for the greater good. We should think Rick for his service.

Obama dumped a crapload of programs on the table when he came into office claiming they were to assist people during a down economy and to jump start the recovery. At best the efforts were D/D+ (some would say F) and the economy is still mostly stagnant, and in some parts of the country hasn't recovered at all. But when it comes time to end the programs, because...well....we're in Challenger Deep level debt, he balks and insists that we have to raise taxes instead to continue to pay for them. Why? Because they have been so effective? Beyond that, his Democrat Party friends passed health care "reform" that was broken on arrival by his own admission and will take many years to fix, if it can be fixed at all and will cost lower and middle class people large chunks of their incomes. His defense policy appears to have ...

The fact is, neither side has anything worth backing, but at least Obama isn't trying to strip women, minorities, and homosexuals of their rights and force Christianity on the country.

Thanks for your observation. I, for one, am voting against the stupid constitutional amendment. It's vague, discriminatory, and intended to cement into the constitution the already-existing state statute establishing marriage as between a "male person" and a "female person." I'm hoping the supporters of the amendment are merely a vocal minority. Sad thing is mostly Republicans will be out at the polls on primary day since Obama is running unopposed.

I don't know if that's the case or not. The industry I work in is full of ex and retired military types who tend to be very small-government (except for DEFENSE), conservative people. I suspect it's more the Democratic stance on gay marriage, abortion rights, etc, that set him off.

I could be wrong, though.

There are few things that I despise more than Northern Virginia ex-military defense contractors who've got for-life medical coverage, and are constantly screaming bloody murder about government spending and evil socialist medical coverage.

They literally spit with rage and their faces turn beet red when you call them hypocrites.

Perhaps, but I think it has a good chance of passing after looking into the polling methodology a little more. Derp. Lesson for me to stop being lazy about opening PDFs and checking methodology before I post... The majority-opposed poll has a question that informs the voter of the consequences of the amendment (no gay marriages or civil unions/domestic partnerships legally recognized). It's far too leading a question, since the ballot question itself is deliberately vague on that score, so a lot of people in the voting booth will think it's only about gay marriage.

Another poll by PPP shows "No" leading within the margin of error, 42-41, with a similarly informed question (and 17% undecided.) Prior to being informed the majority support the initiative. Not great, although definitely showing some potential for defeating the initiative. But, I don't know how confident I could really be with these results since I don't know how PPP picked their "likely voters" sample; it might be excluding people who have not voted in a primary before, for example. Side-eye for all these pollsters...

One can only hope Republican (and conservative-leaning Democratic) voters get really, really complacent by May 8th.

mxwjs: Overfiend: DarnoKonrad: I really didn't think Romney could do it.

I am looking forward to Romney beating Obama in the election.

Romney has always been the Republicans best chance, and he was the most moderate of all the Republican candidates. I think he will make a pretty good president.

as a centrist that leans more left than crazy right. i am working on convincing as many people to vote for romney as possible...

it's not that Obama is doing a bad job, he isn't. it is that Romney will be just fine. he pioneered state healthcare, and it will get the farking conservative babies to shut their mouths and actually do something. by the time he is elected, all the bible thumping nut jobs will not remember santorum and will think Romney is the messiah. They will think they won something and stop whining and dragging down the rest of the nation.

in 2008 i thought if we had a smart president, people would think, "cool, somebody that actually thinks" WRONG. people just put their heads further in the sand, it has been a disgusting 4 years. like spending half a decade with a two year old crying in the checkout line. it is time to just buy the two year old some candy and get this thing rolling again.

/vote for Romney. save this country from further embarrassment of idiot, cry-baby, republicans.

As another slightly left-leaning moderate, I have to say that this is a terrible idea. Even supposing Romney doesn't cave to the republican party, he is a terrible choice given the economy. The one thing he is consistent about is pushing for lower taxes for the wealthy, happy to push the extra burden on the working class.

I will never vote for anyone who has signed the Norquist oath to never raise taxes. Not only is it bad policy, agreeing with it demonstrates a fundamental inability to think critically. I want every single one of those idiots out of congress.
