Grand_Moff_Joseph: It will be interesting to see if Romney's poll numbers improve or not. IMO, if he's not way above 50% in a week or less, then he's in bad shape.

He's already in bad shape due to all of this fuss. If anything, the last few months have farked him over when it comes to the Moderates. How many minority and women voters do you think he's going to pick up in the next few months to offset what has already transpired? The Republicans might recover in a few years and even that's if they ditch the Teabaggers and become more liberal than the Democrats.

The Free Republic posts are hilarious. If that keeps up for two weeks, then Romney is doomed regardless. But I'm not holding out much hope for the Republicans this time around. They're counting on their voters who hold grudges for decades to simmer down in a matter of days for business-as-usual. This will not end well in the slightest, and will probably be the first of many mistakes made to November by the Republicans.

Santorum was much more specifically an anti-Romney vote. Gingrich was a little more mixed. About half of his supporters preferred Gingrich to Romney but would vote for Romney if Gingrich were not a choice... I guess because Gingrich is not an outsider in the same way that Santorum portrays himself to be.

Romney may gain a few points, but I expect the lion's share to go to Gingrich. Santorum and Paul are near polar opposites and Paul's already got his niche.

How do any of you libs honestly think we will ever bring the US debt under control? Once we hit the 20 + trillion mark in less than a decade, what then?

Where do you think the revenue could possibly come from to pay that down? Do you understand interest?

What about at the 40 trillion mark? 100 trillion? Will you raise tax rates on millionaires to 70%? That will bring in a few billion dollars in the short term. Tax businesses at 50%? That will cause massive contraction. How the hell do you intend to pay for all your free crap?

If we don't control it now, we are screwed. You can't do that by handing people free stuff and expecting them not to pay taxes. Obama's "Buffet" rule? Will get him a lot of votes. Will get the country about 4.7 billion a year. Absolutely goddamn nothing compared to our deficit. Successful people breed much more slowly. Dumb people breed like rabbits. You are a liar if you don't think that means less tax revenue, more welfare, and more Democratic voters to continue the cycle.

He may not have been a preacher, but that is the kind of crowd that surrounds Newt Gingrich and his multiple partners of convenience. That, and it doesn't help that Newt Gingrich complained about Romney being a "corporate raider" (in the private sector) - while ignoring the State of Georgia's "economic development" department.

While the religious part was particularly dangerous, any Georgia politician was/is/will be lost to me after their state snuck the final pieces of a large and long-standing cash-register company out my corner of Ohio. If a Georgia politician wants to redeem themselves in that regard, they will have to openly denounce Georgia's "economic development" department - as they take in businesses but do not generate jobs on the long term.

IT'S REAL TO HER, MAN!

But that's the thing. This is why we have had this race. Not because this is a "historic election" but because folks need cash to siphon off from these things. So long as there are all these events, advertising can be sold. Campaign dollars can be used to line pockets. Books can be sold. Merch can be sold.

This whole cycle is about squeezing every dime from folks, and handing it over to folks that aren't really going to do much, save hand it over to others who won't really do much for jobs, won't actually manufacture anything but outrage, and keep the ball rolling to extract as much cash for snake oil as possible.

It is treating the Idiot Brigade as a cash crop, and nothing more.

This means either:

1) Obama wins. Or,

2) The onerous Romney wins, fouls up horribly, cements the liberal socialist agenda in Washington, captains the economy as it collapses, guaranteeing that the Democrats will rule for another 50 years, assuming the United States itself does not collapse from its top-heavy, inefficient and totalitarian government.

In both cases, the conservative Supreme Court is lost, America's status as an economic and military superpower is over, internationalism will cause massive deprivation and suffering, our Bill of Rights will be forgotten and we will be subjected to East Germany quality nanny-statism.

The parts of our economy that could succeed will be suppressed, we will have massive and unpopular social change foisted on us, ignorant and fatalistic pseudo-scientists will finally get a ruinous chance to lord it over us with fantasies like population control and MMGW, and Agenda 21 will try to force all Americans into giant metropolises on the coasts, so that the heartland will be depopulated.

The very young will either be aborted or raised in government controlled stalls like farm animals, and anyone over the age of 60 will be put down as "obsolete". Death will be king.

Our allies will fall like dominoes before assorted tyrants, and millions of innocent people will be enslaved or die.

Congratulations, Republican leaders. This is what you wanted. This is what you craved. This is what you paid for and forced. And this is why you struggled so hard against the conservatives that wanted to stop this.

You won. America lost. Hopefully America will be remembered as a place that was once great, like Atlantis, a wonderful place full of dynamic people that the oppressed people of the world could have looked at with hope, that they might someday live like that, in freedom and liberty.

And hopefully, people like you will be remembered for ruining it, both directly and in complicity with the forces of evil and despair. That your names be cursed until they are forgotten, and your offspring live as castrated chattel.

You won.

It's a term basically one step above Divine Providence. It's the belief that America is innately superior to other nations due to natural resources, political freedom, and good old 'merkan spirit. It came up a lot in my PoliSci and Sociology courses, and I thought the phrase was coined by Tocqueville. But according to wikipedia (yeah, yeah) the phrase was actually first used by Stalin (!). I find the concept disturbing and dangerous because it is inherently nationalistic and elitist.

Obama dumped a crapload of programs on the table when he came into office claiming they were to assist people during a down economy and to jump start the recovery. At best the efforts were D/D+ (some would say F) and the economy is still mostly stagnant, and in some parts of the country hasn't recovered at all. But when it comes time to end the programs, because...well....we're in Challenger Deep level debt, he balks and insists that we have to raise taxes instead to continue to pay for them. Why? Because they have been so effective? Beyond that, his Democrat Party friends passed health care "reform" that was broken on arrival by his own admission and will take many years to fix, if it can be fixed at all and will cost lower and middle class people large chunks of their incomes. His defense policy appears to have been thought up after playing too many hours of watching "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare". His funding of scientific research is a farking joke. At least his funding of the arts is good--just ask the bureaucrats that sit around all day making videos about all the money they are spending.

Obama simply hasn't earned a second term, any more than the Democratic party deserved to keep control of Congress. We don't have time to relive the 1970s. People in the Republican Party have and will debate how much better Romney is than other people, but they all agree that he's a major leap forward from the current White House occupant.

Thunderpipes: How do any of you libs honestly think we will ever bring the US debt under control?

Too many words. This is politics: Same message in hilarious cartoon form.
