blackminded: Grand_Moff_Joseph: RminusQ: And so it goes...

Total committed: Romney 563, Santorum 205, Gingrich 132, Paul 27, Huntsman 2, Undeclared 22, Uncommitted 7, Unclaimed 4.

Superdelegates (according to FL/DCW): Romney 33, Gingrich 2, Santorum 2, Paul 1.

All frothy has to do is pledge all of his delegates to Newt and we're back in business.

PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN!

Luckily, as he's a former Senator, I'm sure the family has the best health plan American tax money can buy.

If the GOP goes for deep dirt on the Obama administration, non-stop, they might win if they pick a black VP like Condi Rice or Allen West. If Romney wins it's more corporatism just like Obama. The people lose again in 2012 either way. Loss with a cannon shot to the face, or loss with a hop into a lava pit.

SeismicJizzer: Good! Now Obama can focus his sights on one of the most dishonest human being the republican party has ever put forth.

Why pay attention to Newt/Paul? Romney's in the lead now...

How's his pirouette?

Not so hot, but he's always on pointe.

I've seen 3 freepers who I have hardly seen in one minute post unite behind Romney lets beat obama

The Romney bots have been waiting for some time to get on here and tell us to unite and they will use the usual crap of us hating obama and we have to unite to beat him.

All of his paid staffers will be here soon you watch

imontheinternet: That was sudden. Either he made a deal with Romney, or his campaign is spiraling into debt. Probably both.

It's more a case that he saw the handwriting on the wall and realized he was going to get waxed in his home state of Pennsylvania (again!), this time by Mittens and the millions of bucks Mittens was prepared to spend there to finish FrothyBoy off. That would kill any credibility he has as a future candidate for Prez, and FrothyBoy is delusional enough to think that he as long as he avoids that embarassment he might actually have a shot in 2016 after Mittens gets biatchslapped by Obama in November. I mean, I can see why a normal person in his shoes might think that--he's still young, and it follows the pattern that Mittens set last time of coming in second to the eventual nominee and then getting his turn 4 years later, but the problem, of course, is that nobody is going to win on a platform of banning porn, banning contraception, speaking out agains the evils of masturbation, and all the rest.

WTFDYW: Word around Ohio says he'll pick Rob Portman as running mate.

Who? (Goes to Google) Never heard of this guy (and I follow politics pretty closely), and apparently he's straight laced and boring.

Quote from an article about this speculation:

Downside? Portman is boring, so the ticket, Garrett writes, would be "boredom squared or squares squared."

Oh, that'll get people to vote for Romney.

The VP candidate should be a bastard. Johnson or Cheney are perfect examples. Boring is exactly the wrong quality in a VP candidate, unless you are merely trying to only lose by a little instead of a lot (which is possible; IE Romney knows he is going to lose and now merely wants to limit by how much by picking somebody with minimal upsides but few downsides). Kind of the opposite of what McCain did-he picked "not boring", and while it didn't work out for him, it could have had he picked a non-drooling moron for his "not boring" choice (while boring was a guaranteed failure in his case as well).

That was my last republican primary.

If he picks Portman, the GOP loses Ohio for sure, and thus the WH. Portman is toxic in OH and other rust belt states, as Ohio's SB5 illustrated.

ya, but if the GOP suffers a defeat in 2012 nationwide then they will do a purity purge assuming instead of moving center they need to be TRUE CONSERVATIVESTM and might make the chances of this guy winning the nomination in 2016 possible.

Weaver95: bobbette: Weaver95: there's that 'american exceptionalism' thing again. WTF man....what does that even mean?

It's the belief that America because of its history and culture is the most special and unique and country ever, and (in recent development) normal rules and standards for nations don't apply, because FREEDOM. U-S-A U-S-A

so...basically its crazyness?

No, it's just a right-wing strand of American nationalism divorced from any honest analysis of America's history or its international perception, and it's frequently used as a rationale for neoconservative foreign policy aims.

I have no problem with a view of America as a country with a unique political culture that valued republicanism and constitutionality, although you have to consider that concurrently with the institution of slavery and the huge concentration of economic power in very few people's hands at the time of the Revolution and assess just how free a society America originally was. I have no problem with nationalism as long as it isn't blind nationalism. I also have no real problem with the concept that America is unique, because it is. So is every other country.

Annnd here it is, from TPN's Judson Phillips:

Rick Santorum is suspending his presidential campaign, in effect making Mitt Romney the Republican Presidential Nominee.

From the AP:

A Republican close to the campaign says the former Pennsylvania senator was to make the announcement Tuesday in his home state of Pennsylvania, two weeks before the GOP presidential primary there. Santorum faced a tough fight in his home state against Romney.

Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich are technically still in the race, but Santorum's withdrawal effectively ends the race.

For the Tea Party and conservatives, we have a lot to think about.

This should have been the year of the Tea Party Presidential candidate. We should have been able to offer the American people a clear choice between Obama's vision for failed socialism and the end of America and the bright, shinning, city on a hill that is America. We could have offered them the hope of a great future.

Now, to get Obama out of office, we have to support a Republican who is only slightly less liberal than Obama. At least he is a natural born citizen and not an anti-American Marxist.

Romney is a soulless technocrat. To him, everything is a problem to be solved.

The passion of patriotism and conviction do not enter into those equations. Romney is a big government, statist Republican. He also made it a point to win the nomination without conservatives and the Tea Party.

For conservatives, our future now lies with trying to put conservatives in control of not only the Senate but the House as well.

Romney now needs to reach out to conservatives, not go left as a lot of his advisors are going to tell him to. This election is a referendum on Obama. With unemployment at record levels and gas prices causing major economic damage, Obama is very vulnerable. But surveys on Tea Party Nation show that one quarter of Tea Party supporters will not vote for Romney in the general election.

If a quarter of Romney's base stays home, he can forget about beating Barack Obama. While few in the conservative movement believe Romney is anything near being a conservative, now is the time for him to try and prove us wrong.

For the Republicans, the conservatives are not happy. The GOP had better reach out to the Tea Party and the Conservative Movement to make certain that we are included in the future or there maybe a future without conservatives in the Republican Party.

If conservatives leave the GOP, the GOP will go the way of the Whig Party.

Romney issued this statement: "Senator Santorum is an able and worthy competitor, and I congratulate him on the campaign he ran. He has proven himself to be an important voice in our party and in the nation. We both recognize that what is most important is putting the failures of the last three years behind us and setting America back on the path to prosperity."

Weaver95: the freepers are having a mental breakdown right now, but again - its early. by the end of the week I suspect they'll have worked their way around to accepting Romney as the opposition candidate.

It begins already. A "Level-headed Freeper" (*snerk*) posted:

Okay, so Santorum's out. Like we didn't know that announcement was coming one way or another. I started the grieving process months ago realizing that Romney was going to be the one, so I have zero emotion about this. Actually, I have noticed that Romney's speaches have been pretty good of late. I can actaully see him doing well against the supreme leader in the debates. Romney is saying things I like. Will he change his toon once he's in office? I don't really think so.

So, I'm voting for Romney. So, if you're a grown-up and ready to save the nation, it's time to man-up and vote for a far better candidate than Obama, and that is Romney.

I know how Jim Rob feels about this so I might reach that final zot in the sky for this post. But Romney is our nominee, like or not, and I'm voting for him without reservation for myself, and my childrens sake.
