It's a mistake. In states where either Santorum or Gingrich won at least one delegate (i.e. those where they campaigned and were on the ballot), together they are well ahead of Romney.

They don't need to quit, they need to double down and get into more races before the convention.

Ask him why. After all:

-Bin Laden and his allies are dead
-Iraq is over
-DOW is up over 100%
-Unemployment is down almost 1% in less than four years
-Oil production is at all-time highs
-Deportations and raids against employers are at new highs
-The military is no longer firing its best language translators because they are gay
-He can carry his gun more places today than he could in 2008

Not sure why it's so bad for him

I don't know if that's the case or not. The industry I work in is full of ex and retired military types who tend to be very small-government (except for DEFENSE), conservative people. I suspect it's more the Democratic stance on gay marriage, abortion rights, etc, that set him off.

Total committed: Romney 563, Santorum 205, Gingrich 132, Paul 27, Huntsman 2, Undeclared 22, Uncommitted 7, Unclaimed 4.

There is no chance in hell that Mittens picks Frothy-Boy as his veep. That would kill any chance he has of getting votes from independents, let alone Dems. He will pick somelike the following:

--Chris Christie (widely [heh] viewed as a moderate even though he really isn't, able to fire off some good one-liners, can help get votes in a big state like NJ)

--Paul Ryan (name is in the news, teabagger favorite, thus far able to hide the extremist nature of his agenda behind a pretty-boy facade)

--Marco Rubio (name ends in a vowel so Mittens assume he'll draw Latino votes even though he's Cuban-American and most Latin Americans distrust and resent Cubans because of their favored status in the U.S.; teabagger favorite; should help Mittens in key swing state of Florida)

--Mitch Daniels (inoffensive boring white guy--so in other words, he speaks Mittens' language and appeals to the same demographic)

Makes sense, but of those three, Daniels is the only one that makes sense...

Christie: Loud mouthed enough to take after Rex Ryan and say something stupid during a debate/live event

Ryan: TP may love him, but 1000% toxic to party brass/donors, and an immediate turnoff to indies

Rubio: Token minority candidate with mormon ties and a shady family history = loser on the ticket

Daniels: Vanilla enough to not get squashed by Biden in a debate, or screw up on TV.

Cyberluddite: --Chris Christie (widely [heh] viewed as a moderate even though he really isn't, able to fire off some good one-liners, can help get votes in a big state like NJ)

Christie wouldn't help Romney get NJ

--Paul Ryan (name is in the news, teabagger favorite, thus far able to hide the extremist nature of his agenda behind a pretty-boy facade)

Would cause him to get hammered by the elderly vote

--Marco Rubio (name ends in a vowel so Mittens assume he'll draw Latino votes even though he's Cuban-American and most Latin Americans distrust and resent Cubans because of their favored status in the U.S.; teabagger favorite; should help Mittens in key swing state of Florida)

*might* help in Florida but wouldn't do much to sway the overall Hispanic vote

--Mitch Daniels (inoffensive boring white guy--so in other words, he speaks Mittens' language and appeals to the same demographic)

Would be thoroughly uninspiring and wouldn't help turnout at all.

the idea is God wanted the infallible, down home, white, puritan founding fathers (who were not religious, owned Korans and farked their slaves out of wedlock) to create a new Zion (Hebrew for penis), a shining city on the hill and light onto the nations showing the heathens the true path of being rich, white, and farking the poor

Depends on what Romney's looking for. One thing the GOP isn't short on is bland white smiling people. They (Pawlenty being the front-runner in this category with John Thune, Mitch Daniels, and a hundred others) might actually be capable of making Romney appear interesting by comparison.

I'm not expecting him to try 'interesting' in the VP race. That was where McCain crashed.

It's more a case that he saw the handwriting on the wall and realized he was going to get waxed in his home state of Pennsylvania (again!), this time by Mittens and the millions of bucks Mittens was prepared to spend there to finish FrothyBoy off. That would kill any credibility he has as a future candidate for Prez, and FrothyBoy is delusional enough to think that he as long as he avoids that embarassment he might actually have a shot in 2016 after Mittens gets biatchslapped by Obama in November. I mean, I can see why a normal person in his shoes might think that--he's still young, and it follows the pattern that Mittens set last time of coming in second to the eventual nominee and then getting his turn 4 years later, but the problem, of course, is that nobody is going to win on a platform of banning porn, banning contraception, speaking out agains the evils of masturbation, and all the rest.

WTFDYW: Word around Ohio says he'll pick Rob Portman as running mate.

Who? (Goes to Google) Never heard of this guy (and I follow politics pretty closely), and apparently he's straight laced and boring.

Quote from an article about this speculation:

Downside? Portman is boring, so the ticket, Garrett writes, would be "boredom squared or squares squared."

Oh, that'll get people to vote for Romney.

The VP candidate should be a bastard. Johnson or Cheney are perfect examples. Boring is exactly the wrong quality in a VP candidate, unless you are merely trying to only lose by a little instead of a lot (which is possible; IE Romney knows he is going to lose and now merely wants to limit by how much by picking somebody with minimal upsides but few downsides). Kind of the opposite of what McCain did-he picked "not boring", and while it didn't work out for him, it could have had he picked a non-drooling moron for his "not boring" choice (while boring was a guaranteed failure in his case as well).

well... Santorum succeeded in clearing the way for Mittens *sigh*

now that his job is done, time to quit.

I hope everyone that supported Santorum is happy with the result!

If you had just gotten behind Gingrich, we could of had a REAL conservative as our nominee.

Geotpf: WTFDYW: Word around Ohio says he'll pick Rob Portman as running mate.

If he picks Portman, the GOP loses Ohio for sure, and thus the WH. Portman is toxic in OH and other rust belt states, as Ohio's SB5 illustrated.

Cyberluddite: imontheinternet: That was sudden. Either he made a deal with Romney, or his campaign is spiraling into debt. Probably both.

I mean, I can see why a normal person in his shoes might think that--he's still young, and it follows the pattern that Mittens set last time of coming in second to the eventual nominee and then getting his turn 4 years later, but the problem, of course, is that nobody is going to win on a platform of banning porn, banning contraception, speaking out agains the evils of masturbation, and all the rest.

ya, but if the GOP suffers a defeat in 2012 nationwide then they will do a purity purge assuming instead of moving center they need to be TRUE CONSERVATIVESTM and might make the chances of this guy winning the nomination in 2016 possible.

Weaver95: bobbette: Weaver95: there's that 'american exceptionalism' thing again. WTF man....what does that even mean?

It's the belief that America because of its history and culture is the most special and unique and country ever, and (in recent development) normal rules and standards for nations don't apply, because FREEDOM. U-S-A U-S-A

so...basically its crazyness?

No, it's just a right-wing strand of American nationalism divorced from any honest analysis of America's history or its international perception, and it's frequently used as a rationale for neoconservative foreign policy aims.

I have no problem with a view of America as a country with a unique political culture that valued republicanism and constitutionality, although you have to consider that concurrently with the institution of slavery and the huge concentration of economic power in very few people's hands at the time of the Revolution and assess just how free a society America originally was. I have no problem with nationalism as long as it isn't blind nationalism. I also have no real problem with the concept that America is unique, because it is. So is every other country.

Annnd here it is, from TPN's Judson Phillips:

Rick Santorum is suspending his presidential campaign, in effect making Mitt Romney the Republican Presidential Nominee.

From the AP:

A Republican close to the campaign says the former Pennsylvania senator was to make the announcement Tuesday in his home state of Pennsylvania, two weeks before the GOP presidential primary there. Santorum faced a tough fight in his home state against Romney.

Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich are technically still in the race, but Santorum's withdrawal effectively ends the race.

For the Tea Party and conservatives, we have a lot to think about.

This should have been the year of the Tea Party Presidential candidate. We should have been able to offer the American people a clear choice between Obama's vision for failed socialism and the end of America and the bright, shinning, city on a hill that is America. We could have offered them the hope of a great future.

Now, to get Obama out of office, we have to support a Republican who is only slightly less liberal than Obama. At least he is a natural born citizen and not an anti-American Marxist.

Romney is a soulless technocrat. To him, everything is a problem to be solved.

The passion of patriotism and conviction do not enter into those equations. Romney is a big government, statist Republican. He also made it a point to win the nomination without conservatives and the Tea Party.

For conservatives, our future now lies with trying to put conservatives in control of not only the Senate but the House as well.

Romney now needs to reach out to conservatives, not go left as a lot of his advisors are going to tell him to. This election is a referendum on Obama. With unemployment at record levels and gas prices causing major economic damage, Obama is very vulnerable. But surveys on Tea Party Nation show that one quarter of Tea Party supporters will not vote for Romney in the general election.

If a quarter of Romney's base stays home, he can forget about beating Barack Obama. While few in the conservative movement believe Romney is anything near being a conservative, now is the time for him to try and prove us wrong.

For the Republicans, the conservatives are not happy. The GOP had better reach out to the Tea Party and the Conservative Movement to make certain that we are included in the future or there maybe a future without conservatives in the Republican Party.

If conservatives leave the GOP, the GOP will go the way of the Whig Party.

Romney issued this statement: "Senator Santorum is an able and worthy competitor, and I congratulate him on the campaign he ran. We both recognize that what is most important is putting the failures of the last three years behind us and setting America back on the path to prosperity."

It begins already. A "Level-headed Freeper" (*snerk*) posted:

Okay, so Santorum's out. Like we didn't know that announcement was coming one way or another. I started the grieving process months ago realizing that Romney was going to be the one, so I have zero emotion about this. Actually, I have noticed that Romney's speaches have been pretty good of late. I can actaully see him doing well against the supreme leader in the debates. Romney is saying things I like. Will he change his toon once he's in office? I don't really think so.

So, I'm voting for Romney. So, if you're a grown-up and ready to save the nation, it's time to man-up and vote for a far better candidate than Obama, and that is Romney.

I know how Jim Rob feels about this so I might reach that final zot in the sky for this post. But Romney is our nominee, like or not, and I'm voting for him without reservation for myself, and my childrens sake.

What if they get gay marriage and abortion referendums on the ballot?

I'm hoping it'll backfire and draw more liberal leaning voters to the polls to say "Enough of this shiat".

Oregon has a drive to get personhood amendment that explicitly bans all abortions added to our state constitution, no consideration for women's health and safety, as well as some birth control methods.

I think they'll fail to make the ballot though, and even if it somehow makes it and then somehow passes, a federal court will probably nullify it based on existing case law.

No.

"Zion" is the Anglicized form of the Hebrew word "tsee-own" [tzadik-yud-vav-nun), a euphemism for Jerusalem; though really it's a placeholder for "rebuilt center of Jewry, complete with Temple." I think it's also the origin of the English word "scion".

"Zayin" (also the 7th letter of the Hebrew alphabet) is a slang term for "penis", due to the shape of the letter in modern Hebrew block print.

I've corrected this mistake before. I really hope it's not a "thing" now...

Not that I am an expert on aboriginal literature in Canada but I'd suggest that there are a number of awesome books on Louis Riel. But, more importantly, Alanis Obomsawin's documentary of the Oka Crisis, Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance, covers a lot of similar themes up to (nearly) the present day, and you can watch the full feature film on the NFB's website.

make me some tea: Annnd here it is, from TPN's Judson Phillips:

If a quarter of Romney's base stays home, he ...

The only outreach the party will do for them is to push them further under the bus.

Holy hell, they really seem to hate Romney as much as they hate Obama. A lot of em are gonna sit this one out from the looks of it.

Romney is a Massachusetts Republican, which is a Blue Dog Democrat in many Republican strongholds.

That, and Mormon is just about as much an "other" as "Kenyan".

doesn't matter. the GOP rank and file will STFU, wipe their brains clean and vote for Romney. they'll forget they voted against Romney, they'll do what the party orders them to do.

I dunno. I come from a family of evangelical Christians, and I think their heads all just exploded. They do NOT like Mormons. They think they're a cult, false religion, etc. I honestly don't know what they'll do now. (my dad, for example, will not vote for a Mormon).

I was taught that in Lutheran school as well, although my teabagger dad is favorable toward Mormons having worked for a company owned by a Mormon family for 40 years. I'm not sure what his opinion of Romney is, however, but I don't think he was a fan of Santorum either. My folks like Gingrich from the looks of it.

I think if the Romney camp has any hope of bringing in the evangelical Christian vote, they'll have to downplay his Mormonism (at least in terms of the theology) and instead focus on the common social issues they share. Expect to see abortion and the gheys talked about a lot.

From Freeperville

This means either:

1) Obama wins. Or,

2) The onerous Romney wins, fouls up horribly, cements the liberal socialist agenda in Washington, captains the economy as it collapses, guaranteeing that the Democrats will rule for another 50 years, assuming the United States itself does not collapse from its top-heavy, inefficient and totalitarian government.

In both cases, the conservative Supreme Court is lost, America's status as an economic and military superpower is over, internationalism will cause massive deprivation and suffering, our Bill of Rights will be forgotten and we will be subjected to East Germany quality nanny-statism.

The parts of our economy that could succeed will be suppressed, we will have massive and unpopular social change foisted on us, ignorant and fatalistic pseudo-scientists will finally get a ruinous chance to lord it over us with fantasies like population control and MMGW, and Agenda 21 will try to force all Americans into giant metropolises on the coasts, so that the heartland will be depopulated.

The very young will either be aborted or raised in government controlled stalls like farm animals, and anyone over the age of 60 will be put down as "obsolete". Death will be king.

Our allies will fall like dominoes before assorted tyrants, and millions of innocent people will be enslaved or die.

Congratulations, Republican leaders. This is what you wanted. This is what you craved. This is what you paid for and forced. And this is why you struggled so hard against the conservatives that wanted to stop this.

You won. America lost. Hopefully America will be remembered as a place that was once great, like Atlantis, a wonderful place full of dynamic people that the oppressed people of the world could have looked at with hope, that they might someday live like that, in freedom and liberty.

And hopefully, people like you will be remembered for ruining it, both directly and in complicity with the forces of evil and despair. That your names be cursed until they are forgotten, and your offspring live as castrated chattel.

You won.

But, tell us how you really feel?

Same here. It's quite tragic, which is what makes Santorum's combination of extreme religiosity and complete lack of compassion all the more baffling.

And then the United Coalition of New Derpistan (GOP) will applaud him and he'll go down as some sort of retarded hero in the pantheon of derpy news.

Dude, it's a child not a parasite.

Sorry, angry at the dumbass parents. Just because your penis can still spew seed and her wizard sleeve can accept it, doesn't mean that it is a good idea to have kids in your 40s.

Every child is a gift! (if you are a rich asshole who can afford the insurance or the out-of-pocket expenses)

It's real easy to say every child is a gift, Rick, when you don't have to worry at night how you're going to care for the so-called gift, you prick.

No worries. I guess I'm just sensitive wrt people blaming children for events outside their control.

I understand. I guess I meant to say "Look, shiat happens, but you being a 'responsible' politician and father shouldn't be taking risks like having kids at your wife's age, and so the kids' fecklessness, albeit tragic, is your fault and you should take responsibility rather than just saying dumb shiat like 'God's Plan' you blightful piece of sanctimonious dog feces."

It says alot when the conservative cohort in this country rejects a "true" christian fundie for the "fake" christian that was branded as 'unelectable.' I mean sure, Rmoney probably won't win but that pretty much disproves the GOP's rhetoric (no surprise here)

Four more years of Obama will mean game, set, and match for the USA. His Marxist policies implemented by his Czars will transform America forever.

If Obama wins, America loses.

kimwim: From Freeperville

We probably shouldn't tell them that the fifth "conservative" justice is known as the "swing vote" on the Supreme Court and was nominated by Reagan, right? Or that America's status as a superpower has been chipped away at for more than 10 years by China and the EU? Or that the Bill of Rights is only 10 of the 27 Constitutional amendments? (I guess they just try to ignore the ones that allow the blacks and the womens to vote.) Or that East Germany was just a nanny-state for the Soviet Union and neither one exists anymore because the fredum-lovin Americans won the Cold War?

We should probably keep all that quiet, eh?

/wondering why I just wasted my time coming up with counter-arguments to a Freeperville poster

I like this one: "Now Santorum will endorse the liberal Romney, the man who has been lying about his record for the last 6 months. The man Sanatorum said could not beat Barry Soreto because of RomneyCare being the blueprint for ObamaCare. If Santorum had gotten out 4 months ago, Newt Gingrich, A REAL CONSERVATIVE would have won the nomination. Now the liberal Willard Romney becomes the GOPs sacrificial lamb in Nov. So yes Virginia, money can buy the GOP nomination, but not the presidency. Karl Rove will find that out in November. Once again the average republican is being forced fed a liberal to against another liberal for president. I am sick and tired of it. Time for a third party. Your country is calling you Governor Palin."

ROMNEY HAS SERIOUS ELIGIBILITY ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED!!!! And, in this ELIGIBILITY battle, WE are no longer alone....the DEMS have joined the bandwagon. You think WE Conservative Birthers have been a PIA to you all, lmao? Just wait for the dems voices to be raised with OURS.

beefoe: Rent Party: It's a mistake. In states where either Santorum or Gingrich won at least one delegate Obama doesn't have a prayer of winning (i.e. those where they campaigned and were on the ballot), together they are well ahead of Romney.

They don't need to quit, they need to double down and get into more races before the convention.

Including Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota?

Obama can win those states.

netweavr: Vlad_the_Inaner: netweavr: Weaver95: 'shining city on the hill'.

what weird catch phrases evangelicals have...

If the city is on a hill, then it is highly-susceptible to siege tactics. Starve the residents.

Which validates the French building their base in a valley at Điện Biên Phủ?

Because those are the only two options? Your city should be built on a waterway or against a pass of some sort. You need to prevent being encircled and cut-off from resupply. Else you're just building a monument to human stupidity.

There is a tactical advantage to the higher ground. That's why military advice is rife with stuff like Sun Tzu's "Camp in high places, facing the sun. Do not climb heights in order to fight. So much for mountain warfare. "

You are arguing a strategic point, assuming that the army in the field has secure supply lines, and that the fortress has no allies. If the fortress is prepared, it should have prepared for a siege that would last long enough for allies to arrive. The enemy encampment about may be limited to what it carried with it. The people under siege may have even razed their own fields to prevent is use by the enemy. the encircling army's facilities are done quickly, and after time, things like the lack of sanitation may wear. A fortress has no intention of moving, but an invading army usually has a larger goal. If that goal is larger than just the city under siege, then it has pinned the portion of its resources investing the fortress. These are cannot be used towards the larger goal. If re-enforcements arrive for the fortress, the besiegers will be facing opposition on two fronts.

Napoleon is often quoted as saying "Ask me for anything but time". That is because time is precious in warfare, and time is exactly what sieges cost the opposition.

TLDR: The tactical advantage to higher ground is widely known. Your assumption that strategic concerns were not considered in planning a fortification is naive. But go ahead, Starve Stalingrad out, that always works.

There'll be a second wave of Santorum. He's dropping out now to maximize his chances for 2016.

2012-04-10 03:45:57 PM
Santorum has gained nothing by this. Romney is so far ahead that he doesn't need to pander to a Base that has no other options. He'll pick a VP of his own choosing, and I'm guessing he won't go for a Palin in the slightest. Teabaggers have a choice: vote R or vote Obama. And there's no need to pander to a bunch of pathetic sycophants with delusions of power.

And with Santorum's presidential chances, so dies the Teabagger. They must be really confused about what happened, but everybody really saw it coming: the Teabaggers really had no power to change anything that the Money didn't want changed. They're so indoctrinated with Democratic hatred that marketing to them now is like selling a bicycle to a fish: pointless. And the teabaggers are fuming because they simply don't get it, nor will they. They're useful retards and the Party itself has given them a challenge that they cannot understand: Obama or us. And these 'brave Christian Americans' will vote for a White Obama over the real one.

The Republicans have absolutely no integrity. If they wanted Romney out, they could have done so. But they have no real moral compass or values. They're just glorified footballs fans cheering for their home team, and about as smart. And the people who really control and own the Republican Party know this. Their base is dumb cattle, and the base doesn't even know what it wants anymore. All it knows is that it's angry and is bowing to the people who keep them that way.

But fark it. Santorum is done for. He got a chance to walk away before he was laughed out. And now we get to see the Teabaggers who bought the media line about their power get the same treatment. Face it, they're all going to vote for Romney. They'll biatch, but in the end they are just stupid cattle, and they'll walk into the slaughterhouse and justify it all the way to the air hammer.

Oh, I don't know. This guy seems to be taking it well and is keeping an objective viewpoint on the situation:

You won.

We need a Conservative political party, whether it is called Conservative Party or Tea Party or Constitution Party, I don't care.

There are so many disenfranchised GOP conservatives, and TONS of independent conservatives who have dumped the GOP over the past 20 years. If we had a unified conservative party that only had conservative cadidates and stuck to a small government platform, I swear it would out-draw the remaining RINO GOP.

For the life of me, I don't get why Obama and Hannity aren't demanding this, UNLESS they aren't genuine conservatives.

We need a conservative national politica party, now!

Is it too late to draft Palin? Perhaps Michelle Bachmann can be convinced to rejoin the circus,

Even in jest, even the mere hint of either of these ideas is horrifically irresponsible.

kimwim: From Freeperville

SNIP...

I am stunned/agog/astounded by this...pronouncement. It could be a really good piece of fiction if they fleshed it out. Sort of "1984" meets the "Handmaids Tale."

Thunderpipes: Obama will win handily. He has all the black vote, most of the Latino vote, women are dumb, poor people are dumb, liberals are dumb, so he gets all of those too. Occupy, college kids, none have life experience so will vote for free stuff.

Really is the beginning of the end. 10 years we will have Greece debt to GDP ratio, and even more dumb poor people, all breeding ultra fast and making new lil Democrats. They will need more and more free stuff, so Democrats will borrow more and more to buy their votes and enrich themselves.

Conservatives are almost universally weak-minded. The world is black and white to them, and they're highly suggestible by their own party. If you don't support a war president, then you hate the troops (unless the president is a Democrap/Black). Muslims are bad. Someone who has Hussein in his name is just like Saddam Hussein. Frenchies are bad. If you're not with us, you're agin us. Liberals are bad. You either believe that the Earth was created in its present form in six days 6000 years ago or else you hate Jesus and families and puppies and the Good Ol' U.S. of A.

Are there some stupid libs? Sure. But it's nothing compared to the army of know-nothings on your side. Elitist? If elitist means "not the dumbest motherfarker in the room," sure, I'll be elitist.

mxwjs: Overfiend: DarnoKonrad: I really didn't think Romney could do it.

I am looking forward to Romney beating Obama in the election.

Romney has always been the Republicans best chance, and he was the most moderate of all the Republican candidates. I think he will make a pretty good president.

as a centrist that leans more left than crazy right. i am working on convincing as many people to vote for romney as possible...

it's not that Obama is doing a bad job, he isn't. it is that Romney will be just fine. he pioneered state healthcare, and it will get the farking conservative babies to shut their mouths and actually do something. by the time he is elected, all the bible thumping nut jobs will not remember santorum and will think Romney is the messiah. They will think they won something and stop whining and dragging down the rest of the nation.

in 2008 i thought if we had a smart president, people would think, "cool, somebody that actually thinks" WRONG. people just put their heads further in the sand, it has been a disgusting 4 years. like spending half a decade with a two year old crying in the checkout line. it is time to just buy the two year old some candy and get this thing rolling again.

/vote for Romney. save this country from further embarrassment of idiot, cry-baby, republicans.

Guntram Shatterhand: Santorum has gained nothing by this.

I'm surprised more Santorum supporters aren't screaming about how Santorum wasn't allowed on the ballots in a few states, or that he actually won several caucuses the media reported as a win for Mitt, or hell, any of the inconsistencies and hints of shenanigans the various state GOP orgs have been pulling to make sure Mitt always comes out on top.

The one candidate who truly espoused Jesus Christian Values (even though he was a heretical Papist, but we'll pretend we didn't know that part), has been rejected and so, like Sodom before it, they shall get what they asked for. Homeland will continue it's descent into wantonness, harlotry, coveting her lovers who are hung like horses and cum like donkeys, passing their children through the fires, worshipping Mammon, Molech, and Jack.

You know the drill, folks. It's all pre-ordained by Him (God, not the Santorum).

He's already in bad shape due to all of this fuss. If anything, the last few months have farked him over when it comes to the Moderates. How many minority and women voters do you think he's going to pick up in the next few months to offset what has already transpired? The Republicans might recover in a few years and even that's if they ditch the Teabaggers and become more liberal than the Democrats.

The Free Republic posts are hilarious. If that keeps up for two weeks, then Romney is doomed regardless. But I'm not holding out much hope for the Republicans this time around. They're counting on their voters who hold grudges for decades to simmer down in a matter of days for business-as-usual. This will not end well in the slightest, and will probably be the first of many mistakes made to November by the Republicans.

Santorum was much more specifically an anti-Romney vote. Gingrich was a little more mixed. About half of his supporters preferred Gingrich to Romney but would vote for Romney if Gingrich were not a choice... I guess because Gingrich is not an outsider in the same way that Santorum portrays himself to be.

Romney may gain a few points, but I expect the lion's share to go to Gingrich. Santorum and Paul are near polar opposites and Paul's already got his niche.

How do any of you libs honestly think we will ever bring the US debt under control? Once we hit the 20 + trillion mark in less than a decade, what then?

Where do you think the revenue could possibly come from to pay that down? Do you understand interest?

What about at the 40 trillion mark? 100 trillion? Will you raise tax rates on millionaires to 70%? That will bring in a few billion dollars in the short term. Tax businesses at 50%? That will cause massive contraction. How the hell do you intend to pay for all your free crap?

If we don't control it now, we are screwed. You can't do that by handing people free stuff and expecting them not to pay taxes. Obama's "Buffet" rule? Will get him a lot of votes. Will get the country about 4.7 billion a year. Absolutely goddamn nothing compared to our deficit. Successful people breed much more slowly. Dumb people breed like rabbits.
