I am looking forward to when that character breaks out. Should be interesting.

And yes. That scene was straight out of the book.
BUT THEY CHANGED HER DAMN NAME!!!

Lollipop165: I haven't read the books, but my husband and I are ADDICTED to the show. We only got HBO a month ago, and watched like 4 episodes of the first season every day until we were caugth up. My only complaint is now I have to wait a WHOLE week to get my GOT fix.

Last episode had too little Joffrey. I love to hate him.

And what is up with the Iron Islands guy (forgot his name)? Is he that rape-y/perverted in the book? When we found out who that chick was.... I just.... UGH!

In Theon's defense, he did not know that was his sister. Frankly, you should be blaming her.

I'm most anticipating the one on one fight at the end of ASOS.

And Arstan Whitebeard.

Does anyone know if Stannis buys the story about shirene being Patchface's daughter not his? I forget exactly how the scene goes but Stannis says something like "It seems my wife has put horns on me and attached fool's bells to each."

Generally he doesn't seem to act as though he takes it seriously but that conversation seems to indicate some misgivings.

I am unsure if he is just looking for an excuse to get rid of Selyse as he doesn't seem to have much interest in her and is just waiting for a convenient time.

I know. They should've changed Osha's name.

The fourth book would be best skipped all together (for both readers and television show producers).

I haven't seen the show yet but I'm curious as to what they're going to do when they've finished season 5 and G.R.R.M's still a good two or three years away from finishing the sixth book.

/Also haven't read Dance With Dragons yet - I'm sticking to paperback this time.

2012-04-10 05:04:01 PM
I am genuinely puzzled by the popularity of this show. It's meandering and often dull, only a few of the many characters are interesting and it just looks generally cheap and shoddy like a ren faire re-enactment. I'm honestly not trolling, I quite liked the books until they hit a brick wall with A Feast for Crows.

'And who are you,' the proud lord said,
'That I must bow so low?
Only a cat in a different coat;
That's all the truth I know.'

'In a coat of red,
Or a coat of gold,
A lion still has claws;'

'And mine are long and sharp, my lord;
As long and sharp as yours.'

And so he spoke, and so he spoke;
That Lord of Castamere,
And now the rain sweeps o'er his halls,
With not a soul to hear.
And now the rain sweeps o'er his halls,
With not a soul to hear.

nopokerface: Read all the books first, and now watching season 1 on DVD. Anyone else in the same boat? I am sort of underwhelmed. I think it would have been better not to read first.

I watched probably the first 1/2 of season 1, then started in on the series, finished the 4th book a few weeks after the series, I think reading afterwards was nice, because it filled in the holes, but overall, I think it's one of the best things on TV...

From what I saw this episode, everything about the Iron Islands should be skipped, from the brother/sister feel up session to the idiot running the place. Who cares about winning wars? I'm wearing underwear I took off a dead guy, so I'm somehow morally superior. Idiot.

I don't think they will have Patchface in the show.

He would have appeared already since he was one of the first characters from the Stannis crew that you heard about. Anyway, he pretty much solely exists in the books to give insane clues as to what will happen in the future.

Does anyone know if Stannis buys the story about shirene being Patchface's daughter not his?

If I remember correctly, that was the counter the Lannisters had when Stannis spread the word that Joffrey and the other children were born of incest, they just shrugged it off as somewhat of a joke and went "derp derp patchface probably got your wife pregnant for your daughter"

there are actually a lot of things I'd want to discuss here, but I know even if I put a big warning of spoilers, someone is bound to scroll down and have it ruined. So since this thread is about the HBO Series, I won't discuss any more.

Ennuipoet: I think the worst part of having read the books first is not being able to invest in certain characters...not naming any names here....Let's just say once you've read about some of the things, you will be careful about who you wedding yourself.

Yeah, there's that... A certain part in A Storm of Swords that I keep waiting for my wife to read and then throw my book across the room, which earns a paddling in my house.

/Or a lack of a paddling, depending on where you are in the hierarchy... ;-)

2012-04-10 05:15:34 PM
I find the casting in the second season to be terrible. Melisandre, Asha (or whatever they changed her name to) and even Davos.

Then again, Tyrion, Arya and Lysa look nothing like they were described in the book either...

BloodFireDeath: Does anyone know if Stannis buys the story about shirene being Patchface's daughter not his?

That's possible, but I hope they include him in the story. I think Martin has big plans for him in the series itself. If they plan to do the the whole series to completion on HBO, I think he has a lot to do with the resolution. There have been allusions to it sprinkled here and there in the books.

They've had tits galore.

If you want violence, there's a couple of minor things coming up, and then Episode 9 is supposed to be 1 60 minute battle.

/So May 27th?

They've had two damn episodes. You can't lose interest yet!

Speaking of tits, those were some mournful, dead kitty, suicide-sad tits on the girl in that scene on the ship to the Iron Islands.

StrikitRich: Do you think the part where the Galactica crashes down through the atmosphere and frees the Ewoks from the Vulcan slavers will be in Season 3 or 4?

I heard that they are giving that it's own season altogether, a lot of flashbacks and flash forwards, disjointed timeline, actually Tarantino is gonna direct. Gonna fit in after season 3, and then they will delay season 4 for a year. Kinda like the bullshiat great marketing move they did with Battlestar Galactica, as a matter of fact.

Mournful is my favorite descriptive adjective for titties. Comedically speaking, of course.

At the end, does the Red God step in and resolve all of the plotlines in 20 minutes? Cause that'd be an awesomesauce ending.

OMG, as a female I was thinking the same thing... I feel awful saying it though. No girl wants to be told she has oddly shaped tits :-/

When she laid back they looked fine though... maybe it was just the angle of her crouching over?

There was that part where Theon asks her not to smile with her teeth. Maybe they just had her crouch over like that to have her boobs sag in a way to show that she was not supposed to be a particularly attractive woman.

/just a thought

I love Game of Thrones, watch religiously, read all the books even after I had to wait like 50 years for that last one only to discover Martin just sort of mailed it in, etc.

Still and all, would love it if Showtime or Starz did Joe Abercrombie's "The First Law" trilogy as an answer to HBO's success with the Thrones series.

Also, I'd like to add that I haven't read the books, and it is sometimes difficult to follow along. But, I've watched each episode twice, and you pick it up. It helps that the episodes are delightful to watch. The child actors on this show are really, really good.

And, that George MArtin guy looks like he smells like cat pee.

At the end of A Dance with Dragons I came very close to hucking the book across the room, and then I remembered I was reading on my Kindle.

Yeah, I pictured Davos to be less -tall-, more of a normal dude who could fight if needed, a little stockier and less knight looking. I have no problem with Arya. Really, her tomboyish look in the show may have been enough for all the cruel comments in the books. Tyrion, it's fine, once again, just because they describe him as hideous, it wouldn't necessarily mean that he really looked that bad. The size thing AND the disjointed proportions were automatic reasons to label someone as an 'abomination' in the past.. Lysa, I don't remember how they described her, but nobody's thrown me as much as Davos so far, but I haven't watched ep. 2 yet.

Have you seen who they are casting for Brienne? I don't think they are afraid of making 'Good Guys' ugly... (new window)

from her description in the books, she wasn't supposed to be very attractive, so its a pretty good bet they were playing that up

In the book she was just as unremarkable. And Theon wasn't as kind to her.
