Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand this is why CFB is...detestable.

///Or go to a BCS game, they won't care.

As I said in the other thread, him sleeping around is pretty classless - but not a fire-able offense. Him giving her a job is.

Matt Couch, one of the organizers, said the group would "probably not" have gathered if Petrino had not gone 11-2 last season. "We're not condoning what he did morally," Couch said. "We are disappointed in him, but he's still our football coach, and no one's perfect. ... I wouldn't ask him for marriage counseling, but at the same time we're supportive of him and we want him to do well."

Just so you know how this works, Matt, but he'd fark your wife too. It's cool that it wasn't you... this time.

Jimmie and Steve sittin' in a tree... The Natural State.

This is my state.

And yes, it is a fireable offense. If he was banging some random skank, none of our business... he's a sleeze, but it's not illegal to be a slimeball... but a girl on his staff that he just gave a MASSIVE promotion to? That's a whole other story.

If this were a high profile professor, the university president, or the chancellor, they'd have been placed on unpaid leave while the gallows were set up. As it is, he'll likely keep his job. Shameful.

He's not getting fired. They knew Petrino was a dirtbag when they hired him; I can't honestly believe anyone is surprised something like this happened.

Arkansas fans (myself included) are trying to rationalize accepting a double standard for Petrino. We know his actions were immoral. We know his actions were unethical. If it were any other person, we would all probably say the person should be fired.

Unfortunately, Arkansas fans are passionate about football. A few years ago, we finally got tired of having a sub-par program. When we fired Houston Nutt, we hoped to get better, but we didn't dream of landing a coach of Petrino's caliber. We already knew he was a douche for leaving the Falcons mid-season, but we accepted that because we were tired of losing all the time.

Now, a few years later, Petrino has taken Arkansas to its first BCS berth, back-to-back 10+ win seasons, and a top 10 ranking at the end of last season. And this year, with a new D-coordinator, the top QB in the SEC, Knile Davis back at HB, a non-rookie O-line, and Alabama and LSU both in Fayetteville this year, Arkansas fans were pretty optimistic.

Then he goes and pulls this dick move. Reading between the lines, one can discern that the consensus in Northwest Arkansas is that Petrino is a dick, SHOULD be fired, but we don't want to do it because he helps us win.

I feel dirty for thinking this way, but in truth, I'm not disgusted. Absent other bad stuff coming to light, I'm not so upset by his actions to demand a firing. In other words, this isn't like JoePa's inaction on Jerry Sandusky, where children were being abused. This situation is more like Bill Clinton. Sure, it shows that he's an immoral, classless dude, but it isn't so bad that I think he should have stopped being president at the time (yeah, I know its not really a perfect analogy, but it is the best I could think of).

College Football fandom is a hobby of mine, and I'm tired of losing. If more bad stuff comes to light during Jeff Long's investigation, I will reconsider my position, but until then, I will be happy with a short suspension or fine.

Pretty much spot on, but you have to figure that a cost analysis including ticket sales, bowl game revenue, television revenue etc. of a winning program w/ Petrino probably outweighs any lawsuits and lost revenue of a losing program w/o Petrino. It's all math nowadays.

I should've stated that this is why I find CFB detestable. Not generalizing on it because I know there are some huge fans and alumni bases out there. Hell, I know of someone at my place of business that's a huge LSU fan and was completely crestfallen by the events of the BCSNC.

Petrino? Oh yeah, you just knew he was gonna pull some dick move sooner or later. Didn't think it would take this long however.

I spent the better part of an afternoon explaining this exact sentiment to a friend. As an Arkansan, I know it would be hard for most in the state to cast the first stone on the adultery. Once that's brushed aside, the hiring of Dorrell becomes the issue.

And while this IS a fireable offense, the love of the game(fans) and the love of the money(UA) far outweigh any negative effects from this. Alumni don't particularly love to give money to controversy, but I don't see this affecting recruiting. Might even boost it.

"oh SNAP!!111 coach gettn hiz on da side! gotta commit! WPS!!!"

I hate seeing the Hogs lose and after the past few seasons, it would be even harder to return to the post-SWC days when .500 meant something, but I also hate seeing a program so vital to the state, brought down by the man that is supposed to care the most.

I totally agree. And what makes it even more detestable is that if Arkansas did fire Petrino, he would land a new job within the week, probably in the same conference.

He did go to a BCS bowl game and he didn't give Dorrell a "huge salary". It came out last week that she's making the same amount as her predecessor.

And how does he "stink it up" everywhere he goes? He's 21-5 over the last 2 seasons with a BCS bowl berth and a Cotton Bowl victory.

Do you just make shiat up and hope people will buy it? I'm sick of having to correct you in every thread.

Bobby Petrino is the most overrated football coach of the past decade. He's taken advantage of the most top-heavy SEC in the past 20+ years, not to mention an extra BCS game versus the majority of Nutt's career; but he's not shown himself to be capable against anyone of high talent or class. Incidentally, I'd take two of Nutt's Arkansas teams over any team Petrino has coached at the school, regardless of record.

mynamebackwards: And how does he "stink it up" everywhere he goes? He's 21-5 over the last 2 seasons with a BCS bowl berth and a Cotton Bowl victory.

I can just guess that record may not be what he was talking about. Because everywhere he's gone, he's pissed off a LOT of people when he left (not just for the fact that he left), and now he has done something that SHOULD get him fired from Arkansas (but it won't, because there are no professional ethics when it comes to SEC football).

For a hooker she is making a lot of money to have just one client and it was reported he gave her a raise recently, recent history is all you are looking at Louisville, auburn, and falcons fans all can give proof hes a scumbag that farks shiat up, like right now at Ark but bring up your BCS loss that will make it all better.

You havent corrected shiat, just proven how delusional arkansas fans really are.

Have fun going 7-6 next year.

The football team has to follow a reasonably strict set of guidelines. This guy is not the example you would want to use.

Gotta give AD Jeff Long credit. He's basically saying "The University is MORE than just the football program."

Also (as ESPN's Joe Schad points out) think about it: While at Louisville he went to try and get the Auburn job behind their back. Goes to the Falcons and quits on them mid-season to go back to the college ranks. Now: lied to the AD about the whole damn thing. How are you going to have this guy go to a recruit's house and convince that kid and his family that Arkansas is where he should go?

The guy's a lying sack of shiat. Screw 'im. He'll probably do a Mike Price and get a HC position at a mid-major conference in order to regain his credibility.

And I was just thinking this earlier: Had Mike Leach still been out of a job, he would've been the first guy Jeff Long called.

As Gregg Easterbrook often writes, when you hire a coach who's a weasel, you end up with a coach who's a weasel.

I had to laugh at the timing of my comment earlier in this thread, because it wasn't long afterward that I learned of his firing. Congrats to Arkansas for doing the right thing.

Mike Price never deserved to lose his credibility. Petrino has lost it at essentially every head coaching job he's had.
