God I'd pay to see that.

Yeah, Buffy has that whole magic thing going for her. Though it would be fun to see her go up against a demi-god. Namely, Thor ;)

Joss Whedon has a thing for powerful women: He's built a career by standing on the capable shoulders of Buffy's Slayer, Firefly's River Tam and Dollhouse's Echo.

Buffy's arguable at best, but River was torture victim who was barely mentally competent, and Echo was a captive prisoner who had her mind wiped. Joss Whedon has a thing for physically powerful, but mentally child-like women... which is really creepy.

Disagrees about the child-like thing.

Well he's right. Black Widow is still just a normal human. Highly trained and smart, but still normal. Buffy has superhuman strength, reflexes, and speed. Barring trickery, in an all out brawl superpowers win.

I'm torn between applauding how I can picture this perfectly in the show, and writing something a little more ecchi here for my fellow farkers.

She comes in colors everywhere: Disagrees about the child-like thing.

And yet, she wasn't singled out in the article. In fact, none of the strong female characters were... just the horribly damaged one who was the ostensible focus of the series.

It's more like he writes powerful girls who are handicapped by patriarchal systems of control, who manage to survive and defeat them through innate inner strengths and willing accomplices, some in, and some outside of the system.

I felt your character selection was, well, selective.

Anyway, damaged people make more interesting characters. What's your point?

I didn't write TFA.

That TFA's lauding Whedon for his 'capable women' is a bit misplaced, particularly with - as you note - the odd character selections.

KRYTEN: Breakfast is served, sir. (Noticing the TV, he sounds disgusted)

Oh, boxing. Do you _like_ boxing?

LISTER: There's nothing wrong with boxing. It's one of the great working class escapes, is boxing. It's just sport, like any other. Two highly trained athletes at the peak of physical perfection trying to outwit each other in a ring of combat. In fact, at it's best, it's not a sport -- it's an artform.

KRYTEN: Female, topless boxing?

LISTER: Talk to me, Kryten.

KRYTEN: Well... they're not even hitting one another. They just appear to be standing in the centre of the ring and jiggling up and down. So which one are you rooting for, sir?

LISTER: I'm just praying that it goes the distance!

Buffy would easily lick the Black Widow.

Easily at first, and then more forcefully in reaction to Natasha's moans.

taurusowner: Black Widow is still just a normal human.

Nope. She received a variant of the Super-Soldier Serum. You know, like Captain America?

She'd merge with Will and Zander. Didn't you see the episode where she took out Adam?

The only show of his I've ever really gotten into was firefly. Possibly because it was so short.

I watched some Buffy, and dug angel, but neither enough to regularly watch 'em.

Have either held up well in the years? Or are they cringe worthy as most childhood shows? And aren't there comics now?

I watched buffy's whole run on netflix recently, it holds up. I'm watching angel now and it still works. Still in season 1 though. I haven't read the comics.

I will hit up Buffy on Netflix eventually. No need for me to watch Angel on there as freaking TNT has been showing the entire run of the series at 7 and 8 am M-F for the past 5 or 6 years at least. I've seen every damned episode of that show multiple times.

I wish they'd switch to Buffy. Something other than SportsCenter to watch in the morning while I drink my coffee and get ready for work.

And yes there are comics and while I have only read a few, they are pretty decent.

Oh come on... Buffy's progression from reluctantly heroic whiny teenager to leader of an army of Slayers who saves the world from ultimate evil was great. Gripping stuff. Dollhouse sounds like crap, but I think Whedon is either really on... or he's really off; sort of like Mel Brooks.

I preferred Buffy to Angel, but I think they've held up pretty well. Firefly was great but I could live without Dollhouse.

Having not read Captain America in like, 15+ years, I looked her up on wikipedia. No super-soldier serum.

Whedon is really lucky this time, he didn't even have to pick the non-actor for his mandatory bad kung fu chick this time. I still count myself lucky, as if it'd been up to him, we'd probably have to hear Gabrielle Anwar trying a bad Russian accent while flailing around helplessly.

/At least we got boobs out of it.

you confused that it has 31 reviews and it hasn't been released yet? That is easily explainable with prescreens for critics. 94% is good for a horror flick.

Dollhouse was great, top notch. Stop listening to the general public opinion and give it a shot.

Dollhouse starts off really slow and with pretty bad acting by Dushku. After about the fifth episode, there's a change in direction, and it starts to get interesting.

If you can hang on that long, it's worth watching.

Black Widow isn't wispy and fragile enough for Whedon. She has to get beaten down in some way and captured. She's the damsel in distress that's common in all comic book movies. She's the Lois Lane hanging over the Eiffel Tower or the Mary Jane hanging over whatever she's always hanging from.

Then she beats everyone's ass.

No I'm a huge horror fan. I'm just saying it looked like a derivative horror movie with a twist, nothing more. A 94% is insanely awesome for a horror movie.

Well since it's Joss Whedon I assume he bases the their strength based on how anorexic they are and who has the bigger daddy issues.

It was great when FX (I think) would show 2 eps of Buffy right before the TNT showings of Angel. Every few years, they'd almost be in sync.
