Apparently, subby has never seen Sexy Beast.

I'd paste in some Don Logan quotes from IMDB, but Fark's filter might not be able to handle the workload.

...I love Ben Kingsley. Don't get me wrong, I think he's done some fun work, and that even includes War, Inc, but maybe, just maybe, there are a few actors who are actually Chinese. Heck, lots of actors who are even of mixed ancestry. Who are actually decent actors...

Which of course for those of us who took the time to read the article know that he won't be playing the Mandarin.

But hey keep doing your thing.

Say what you will about Uwe Boll, but how many directors will film a nearly shot for shot parody of their own movie at the same time as the "serious one" with most of the same actors.

Wait, nanobots? That should make for some awesome action scenes.

I watch Iron Man to see him blow up big stuff like tanks or armies of robots, not see him struggle with microscopic metaphors for his inner demons.

/For my money, the best shot in the first Iron Man movie is when he gets shot down by a main battle tank, hauls himself out of a crater, dodges the next shell, fires off a missile at the tank and walks into camera, not even bothering to watch whether the tank is destroyed. It is.

point is though that Fury and Paulson's presence in the previous Iron Man films was entirely to set up the Avengers and for most of us that side plot's intrusivness ruined the pacing of IM2 so now that the Avengers is it's own entity they aren't really needed in this film other than maybe as brief cameos. Gregg's exclusion from the cast list isn't therefore particularly ominous, just indicative that (other than the Black Widow) it won't much involve the Avengers.

Would you rather watching Superman do this:
CLASH (new window)

Or watch him have a long boring angstfest about the baby he left behind and didn't tell Lois Lane about?

I'm with you. That was a great shot in Iron Man. (I'm not saying superhero films have to be full of Bay-splosions, but the action should be larger than life) What is the point of having a guy in a robot suit doing what a normal guy could do?

No. That's only why you think you watch Iron Man. Without the inner demon/redemption of a war profiteer/battle with the bottle stuff, action like that would be about as memorable as any boring action scene in Transformers.

That scene is memorable because it showcases Stark's attitude and a tank goes boom.

That and the Extremis storyline was one of Tony's best of the last 10 years or so.

Well, you can. But your bank account prefers you don't.

and for those worrying about nanobots meaning no big action, well the nanobots take over technology like -say tanks, IM suits, jets etc. don't worry Tony will spend plenty of time making things go boom I'm sure.

Raug the Dwarf: That scene is memorable because it showcases Stark's attitude and a tank goes boom.

Well, yes. The inner struggle is what makes him worth rooting for, but I want the outer struggle to be something more... boomy.

And yes, it was.

But unless stuff also goes boom, it won't translate well to the big screen.

Digitalstrange: and for those worrying about nanobots meaning no big action, well the nanobots take over technology like -say tanks, IM suits, jets etc. don't worry Tony will spend plenty of time making things go boom I'm sure.

Yeah, but I'm still a little anxious. When Tony blows up that tank in the first movie, it's personal. Blowing up stuff because it's been taken over by the nanobots risks being too impersonal and indirect. But I guess it depends how it's handled: the whole taking-things-over motif can be very chilling in its own right. (I think that the creepiest bad guys in SG1 were the replicators, and the Cybermen still make me hide behind the sofa).

p.s. I think I screwed up attributions above. Sorry.

I'd be fine with Fury not showing up, but Coulson's clearly Stark's "case agent", so for the film to feature the Black Widow without featuring Coulson, that would be a little odd, don't you think?

Variety reports that Sir Ben Kingsley is now in final negotiations to take on the antagonist role in the third Iron Man pic.

Nope. Uh-uh. No more knighthood until you apologize for being in BloodRayne.
