Years ago, I used to belong to a music industry message board on which Courtney posted. She'd show up, post increasingly insane rants, start verbally abusing people, and eventually get banned by the admin. This cycle happened a couple of times, and is one of the reasons I'm pretty sure trolls on any website have serious mental health issues.

Actually, she used to be rather brilliant. Not dumb at all. Terribly clever and well-informed. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her addictions and worse habits. Being accused of murdering her husband (a guy who actively pursued her long after she was already famous) by a bunch of snotty Nirvana fans drove her crazy(er).

But there was a time when she was scary-smart and not the complete mess. There was a time when she was sharp, talented, and in love.

People don't ever give her credit for putting up with Kurt's shiat, helping him through his worst times, or the suffering she experienced due to her husband's death. She didn't bounce back from any of that. She succumbed to the drugs and the anger because almost the entire western world piled on after Kurt died. The fans needed to blame someone, so they made up shiat and blamed the one who was closest to him. The one HE pursued and professed deep love for.

What a bunch of jealous, insensitive assholes.

Nirvana fans who blame Courtney for Kurt's death are essentially the same as Fred Phelps' church members. You taunted and berated a woman who was burying her husband, and you never let up.

So hey, guys! You won. You beat the widowed woman into submission and drove her to damn near destroy herself rather than recover. Congratulations. Pat yourselves on the back.

I sincerely hope that when I die, people don't treat my wife (or even my ex-wife) that way. Kurt Cobain fans are apparently a bunch of heartless, selfish shiats.

She's totally high. That seems obvious. She may also be aping the style of other posters on that board. Have you seen some of those comments? Not exactly a deep, intelligent crowd over there.

It's a shame what happened. She really was something to behold in the 90s; Intelligent, strong, and determined.

Oh, now that's just bullshiat.

Hole existed for a year before Kurt even met Courtney. Hole's first album was finished before Kurt came along. Courtney was writing music and performing on stage years before Kurt even came close to being in Nirvana.

Kurt was the latecomer to both Courtney's musical career (she was performing on stage before Kurt ever tried) and Nirvana's final lineup.

1994. Providence, RI. 3am. Omni Biltmore hotel. I was working 3rd shift security when Love was a "guest". She was wasted, sloppy, gross looking (fresh infected tattoo on her leg) and a total twat causing all sorts of bullshiat drama. Didn't know who she was, but I know I didn't like her at all. I was thrilled when she checked out.

Fark her.

And even if it were true, it doesn't make my statement any less true, and more than Nirvana doing Meat Puppet covers makes them a shiatty band.

Agreed... but it didn't sell until Live Through This, which there are rough tracks out there on the interwebs of Kurt singing/playing the songs. Courtney was cool back in the day and had some success pre-Kurt, but she wasn't ever a breakthough success until Kurt came along.

Can you provide some of these rough tracks out on the interwebs? No one associated with Live Through This says Kurt had anything to do with it, other than backup vocals on two tracks. And those are on the record.

If any of those tracks are from a pre-LTT time frame, I'd be surprised. I've got rough tracks of me singing songs from Bleach, but that don't mean I wrote 'em.

But as a fan of both bands, I'd like to have those if they do in fact exist.

I'll see if I can find 'em again and post 'em. They were like all the rough tracks on Silver... not bad. It's quite possible they were recorded after the recording for LTT. Honestly, I think both had a creative effect on the other, which is why they were drawn to each other despite all the destructive behavior that came from it.

Really? She wasn't even on my radar except for maybe one Hole song I knew. And at the time I wasn't a big fan of Nirvana, so her involvement in her husband's death and, in fact, Cobain's death entirely, didn't really have any impact on me. I only became aware of her later when she started showing up in the news as a drugged out mess.

Second Hole being a good band back in the day. Adding Billy Corgan as a songwriter for Celebrity Skin was genius.

I can just about understand Courtney Love's comments. You can see the points she's trying to make, but I think the drugs ate away the parts of her brain that allow her to communicate intelligibly to others some time ago. Translation: It appears she had a dispute with Dave Grohl about the financial and cultural legacy of Nirvana, which was mainly her husband's work, and there's some references to Grohl's record label Roswell and some other sh*t that I have no idea about. She resents him trying to control anything to do with Kurt's legacy and believes he is a sociopath. And he named his daughter Violet, which is indeed slightly bizarre considering that was the name of one of Hole's biggest hits, and Dave Grohl and Courtney seem to hate each other.

Courtney Love is a musician and actress known better for her off-stage antics who has a personal net worth of $100 million. A present force the heyday of alternative rock and founding member of the band Hole, Love and late Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain were married, having daughter Francis Bean in 1992.

I doubt Dave even considered the name.

I'd also add he did not get liens on her assets and get money unless he was entitled to it. I will also add her belief that she is more entitled to Nirvana money than Dave is laughable. The people she considers her husband's backup band not only were instrumental in creating the music, they held things together while her junkie husband dealt with his "stomach problems" that he claimed could only be treated with heroin.

I like Nirvana, and I appreciate his part in rock music history, but he's not a God, and Dave has shown he can do pretty well without Kurt.

Rent Party: Can you provide some of these rough tracks out on the interwebs? ... But as a fan of both bands, I'd like to have those if they do in fact exist.

The only definitive one is "Old Age," which was released as a Hole b-side from the Live Through This sessions and was initially credited to Love. A portion of the music was also used on "Credit In The Straight World".

Later, a Nirvana demo of the song surfaced in the bootleg community, circa the Nevermind sessions. The Nirvana version can now officially be found on the box set from a few years ago.

These days Old Age is now credited to Cobain, but it wasn't upon initial release. It's said that the whole credits thing was purely a mixup. (She said in 1997 that the song was partially someone else's, but did not say who and largely took credit for the finished product.)

Most of the rest is speculation based on part on Love's sudden ability to create well-crafted songs (songs some might argue have a very Cobain-like sensibility, such as Violet and Doll Parts) when compared to her earlier work, her later reliance on songwriters (Billy Corgan, etc.) to help write her albums, and the fact that she's a crazy coont.

So nothing definitive, really.

I'm still pleasantly surprised when I read a story about her daughter and how she seems to be normal. Although I'm sure much of that was due to being raised by her non-druggie grandparents.

2012-04-10 02:47:47 PM
Violet is Grohl's grandmother's name. Courtney Love farked Billy Corgan, farked and eventually married Cobain and farked many other dudes who could help her achieve the stardom she desperatley craved.
