germ78: I'm not saying that the Cubs are going to set the world on fire, but they're definitely not the third worst team in MLB.

I'm biased but I sort of agree. They have good starters but need to score more and the bullpen has been shaky at best. But good starting pitching can make your team win a whole lot more than they maybe should. Garza has to be so pissed. He's had about 8-10 wins taken away by a shiatty bullpen the past year and 3 games.

And the Orioles begin their inevitable slide into the AL East basement with a 6-2 loss to the Yankees.

158 games to go. As a Braves fan, getting swept by the Mets is like getting getting stabbed in the nuts with an Ice Pick. Getting swept by the Phillies sucks, but the Mets are farking awful.

Seems like there's been an unusual number of blown saves to start the season. Maybe my impression is skewed by being a Tigers fan.

9beers: Darvish sure impressed tonight....lulz.

Once he settled down in the second inning he looked pretty good.

Not $50million good, but I'll give him a few more starts to get comfortable before breaking out the Nelson Ha-Ha macros.

It's a small sample size, but yeah i get the same feeling.

Opening day saw 3 quality starts get flushed by closers in the 9th.

Alright, after today's games and having seen most teams against different opponents now, here are my saner (than ESPN's) power rankings:

1. Rays 3-0 - scary good, bats and pitching
2. Snakes 3-0 - only faced the Giants so far, but looked good doing it
3. Tigers - 3-0 - only faced the Bobby Vs, but were convincing enough, despite having to come from way behind yesterday. The machup with the Rays starting tomorrow should be telling for both teams
4. Cards - 4-1 - Solid. Certainly beating my preseason expectations
5. Rangers - 3-1 - So far not living up to the hype, but not doing bad either
6. Royals - 2-1 - Hey, don't laugh. I think these guys might be for real
7. Yankees - 1-3 - Yes I know, this is as high as ESPN has them, and maybe there is a little bias, but I'm going by what my eyes saw: close games against a scary good Rays team, and I only see the teams I listed above as being actually better right now
8. Mets - 4-0 - sorry, I'm not convinced. I'm reluctant to even put them THIS high
9. Bucs - 2-1 - showing some promise. This promise will be traded away or injured before midseason
10. Angels - 2-2 - should be a lot better than they look so far
11. ChiSox - 2-2 - Not looking utterly terrible. Time will tell
12. Dodgers - 3-1 - Could be a sign of things looking up this year, but I wouldn't hold my breath
13. Astros - 3-1 - A split against the Rockies and a win against a really bad Braves team is not terribly convincing
14. Mariners - 3-1 - Have only played the A's, but so far this looks like a much improved team from last year
15. O's - 3-1 - Wins against the Twins shouldn't even count
16. Jays - 2-2 - Easily could've lost both games they won, but they didn't, so credit where due
17. Red Sox - 1-3 - Finally got that win against said Jays
18. Reds - 2-2 - Decent against the Marlins, but looked outmatched against the Cards
19. Marlins - 2-3 - thoroughly embarrassed the Phils today
20. Nats - 2-2 - Really hard to figure this team out so far
21. Brew - 2-2 - Too early to tell where this team is headed this year
22. A's - 2-3 - Likely to be this year's AL West basement dweller from what I see
23. Tribe - 1-3 - Would've had them a bit higher if not for losing to the White Sox today. Still mad at them for throwing away those Jays games
24. Phils -1-3 - that's right. Not even a Top 20 team. You sit there and think about what you've done.
25. Giants - 1-3 - Judging by what i saw today, they'll probably get better, but for now...
26. Rox - 1-3 - a team in serious need of getting their act together
27. Cubs - 1-3 - nothing truly insightful to say here other than "lol, Cubs"
28. Padres - 1-3 - they are who we thought they were
29. Braves - 0-4 - Only reason they're not lower is because the Twins are still in the league for some reason
30. Toldeo Mud Hens - 0-0 - Because the Twins don't deserve the 30th spot
Potato. Twins - 0-4 - Wow. Just wow.

If you had Barry Zito recording San Francisco's first quality start of the season, step forward and claim your prize.

2012-04-10 09:58:22 AM
20 Orioles 3-0

What's the point of power rankings if their record has nothing to do with it? It's not very exciting if you go out of your way to make the power rankings not change very much over the season. A crappy team could at least be in the top half for their 4 days when they have a good first week.

2012-04-10 10:28:07 AM
The twins might not win a game til may with there schedule and inability to hit the ball.

2012-04-10 11:24:58 AM
At the time of release NY was 0-3 and they're ranked in the top 10?

/Bullshiat list is bullshiat.

The Bestest: Power rankings after 3/162 games is silly.

A friend and I were joking about the Brewers season being "done" after 3 games. He compared it to people saying the same thing about the Packers after 3 losses. The only difference is that by percentage of the season, the Packers would still have about 12 minutes left in the second quarter of their first game.

The Yankees and Red Sox should both be in the basement of the rankings right now. I'm actually looking forward to a mediocre season. Might clear some of the pink hatters out so that I can take my son to a game.

That said, I think ownership needs to take a breather and let the Sox deflate a little.
