Unless I'm no longer hip (might be the case).. isn't the phrase "kicked to the curb"?

Odom, 32, is averaging a career-low 6.6 points per game on .352 shooting since coming over from the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade for a first-round draft pick and an $8.9 million trade exception. He was originally slated to be traded to New Orleans in a deal for Chris Paul before NBA commissioner David Stern vetoed the deal.

yeeeesh. wow, nice trade, Cubes.

And I'm sure Cubes is in no way blaming David Stern for this trade not working out.

I know there are a lot of "disgruntled traded player" stories in sports but for the life of me I can't think of anyone who tuned into such a useless sadsack on a dime. You're 32! And you got traded to the defending champions, not Detroit.

2012-04-09 12:27:57 PM
There's no beach in Dallas and apparently that is a huge deal for Odom. He flat out told everyone that he wasn't going to play anywhere that didn't have a real beach.

/not making this up

And here I thought Simmons-et-al were saying that Dallas getting Odom was highway robbery

It's poorly written headline day at Fark.

Cubes hasn't said anything about it. Don't put words in his mouth.

And a former 6th man of the year should've been a worthy trade. Don't act like you wouldn't have tried to get him for your team, either. He is a good player, he just didn't do jack squat when he got here. So throttle back on that criticism there, boss.

Lost Thought 00: And here I thought Simmons-et-al were saying that Dallas getting Odom was highway robbery

If they were, I'm not sure why. Given the Dallas roster, Odom doesn't fit very well, and Marion needs to get the most playing time so his trade stock stays high enough, 'cause I don't think their master rebuild plan can take hold if he's still on the books past this year.

"On June 29, 2006, Odom's 6½-month-old infant son Jayden died from SIDS while sleeping in his crib in New York."

"In the Queens section of New York, the NBA player was riding in the backseat of a car service vehicle Thursday night when it crashed into a motorcyclist that in turn hit the 15-year-old. The teen was taken to a hospital with major head injuries. He died Friday and was buried Monday."

(my perspective as a Laker fan, from another board)

I was watching "The Soup" last night & it ran right into the
"Khloe & Lamar" episode when he found out he was traded.
I'm not proud of this, but I watched some of it out of
curiosity to see LO from the other side of the media eye.

The dude was devastated. The Lakers were like family to him,
& he was so proud to be a Laker. The summer when his child
died & he lost his grandmother (that raised him like a
mother) he didn't want to play that season, but his teammates
convinced him to come back, & playing for the Lakers became
therapy for him to deal with his grief.

I guess during that time, the bond between himself & the
Lakers as a team became so strong that it was part of his identity.
When he felt that bond had been violated, he felt scorned &
apparently he has been in a funk every since. Here's to
hoping he can pull it back together...seems he's still an
emotional wreck.

I realize the "...it's strictly business" is part of the
equation. Nearly all NBA players should be prepared to clean
out their locker at a moment's notice. But I feel for
Lamar...after his early years of falling short of expectations, he
was able to shed many of the labels that had been assigned to
him, & find success as a Laker. It wouldn't suck if he was
back in the P&G next season...and we sure could use him now
to shore up our lousy ass backup bigs.

Shoulda' traded his sorry, whiny, disinterested ass to Milwaukee when they could. They've got a beach there.

/About time LO went the way of Tariq Abdul Wahad

He traded a bit of nothing for an allstar caliber player with a unique skillset. I'd say it was a nice trade, just didn't fit(or, perhaps, Odom's psyche is so fragile that's he's essentially done)

Lamar brought the circus with him so, unfortunately, every thread about him will involve that wookie in some form or fashion. Glad to see he's still able to do his reality show though, in spite of all of his difficulties.

Man, that's harsh. I wouldn't mind people bringing her up if they had anything to comment on besides what she looks like. She seemed like a perfectly nice lady the entire time they were here. I don't see a need to criticize her.

Look, I am obviously an LO apologist, but as a result of serious personal events/losses in recent years, the dude is emotionally fragile. And when the Paul trade was going down & he got dropped, that fragile psyche shattered...now he's damaged goods. And all of Cube's horses & all of Cube's men finally said "fark it."

Who knows what's in store for him. I wish him the best.
