AllUpInYa: Worked in porn for awhile and while competition is fierce, and the larger companies are taking drastic steps to prevent their content from being stolen, and they're aren't as highly profitable, they're still hanging in there. Content is still relatively easy to produce and distribute, otherwise, a lot of people with no other talents would have to get "real" jobs. Much of the tube sites' content are actually advertising, following the tgp/Persian Kitty model.
There was hope with Digital Playground's Pirates success (2005-ish), that optimism has died, and they're still searching for some method/content/model that they can use to pull back the audience/revenue that the tube sites have taken.

As for how porn companies can still make money, it depends on the niche. Some are so far off the radar that pirates don't bother with them. Or only a few forums that touch on the niche will, and the stuff gets taken down but not reposted because most on there are just posting for karma/popularity, not to actually distribute the stuff (at least from what I've come across). The big tubes don't care for stuff that's too niche it seems, especially if it doesn't have hardcore sex.

Some niche companies or girls themselves will do custom orders, where a customer will pay anywhere from $200-$600 (or higher) to have their kinky fantasy script shot with certain models. So the small time production is paid for AND the company can sell the video for pure profit.

1st, not all SG models are loaded with tattoos. But they do all seem to have at least one good one. 2nd, I'm sure there are a few AW's that might be able to offer some advice, but I won't be naming names. 3rd, if any test users are needed, my services are officially volunteered.
